Andrea Coca Global 10 Mr. Mckenna May 22, 2015 World War I also known as the Great War was a serious and complicated event in history. The causes of the Great War (WWI) were the alliance systems, colonial conflicts, the crisis in the Balkans, and the ability for mass mobilization. Before the Great War started many countries were already developed and others were starting to develop, we had countries with strong economic powers and others that were emerging.

World War II (WWII) is a very common topic discussed in high school english classes mainly due to the facts that WWII is a perfect example of good vs. evil in the real world and there is an endless amount of books written about this tragic era in history. Two examples of these type of books are Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken and Elie Wiesel’s Night; and like all of the other WWII books, these two address themes about the hardships of war and how hope is always present. One specific theme that these books support is that in war, there will always be peace; this is shown through elements of faith, happiness, and trauma. To begin, the two main characters of the books Unbroken and Night face a struggle with their individual faiths, but in very different ways. Louis (Louie) Zamperini initially was not the most religious man but when faced with the most dire of situations he turned to God repeatedly for help and counsel.

The Guns of August Barbara Tuchman The Pulitzer Prize winning book, The Guns of August, written by Barbara W. Tuchman in 1963 is one of the most recognized books on the Great War. World War One was to be the war to end all wars but at its demise resulted in more problems than before the war began. The world had metamorphosed from an agricultural farmland, to a booming industrial factory, the likes the world has never imagined. The Congress of Vienna subdued most conflict, as the years between 1815-1914 stayed relatively away from major conflicts. But the small conflicts that did occur helped build up tensions.

On December 7,1941, the United States declared war on Japan. This eventually led the US to involve the Second World War (Lecture notes). The support of the US helped a lot for allies, which led them to win the war. Throughout the war, the US military was all over the world, Europe and the Pacific Ocean. The United States surely proofed that they are the one of the superpower across the globe.

At the turn of the twentieth century, Europe seemed to enjoy a period of peace and progress. Yet below the surface, several forces were at work that would lead Europe into the “Great War.” One of these forces was nationalism, and it had an explosive effect in the Balkans. But, nationalism was only one of the many causes of World War I. Historians and eyewitnesses have described the causes of World War I and have tried to assess the responsibility for it. Militarism, Nationalism, and Alliance were some of the main cause for WWI and Grate Britain, France, Russia, Germany, Austria- Hungary and Italy Had a Grate Part to Play in It.

Some believe that the cause of WWI was only one’s need for power above all. Yet the truly, underlying causes of WWI were the alliance systems, militarism, and imperialism. The alliance systems were one aspect for the cause of WWI, for as it brought power to the weaker countries, more people were able to voice their opinions and influences others. Another component that provoked WWI was militarism, for it fed the flame of tension between the alliances, as each country wanted to be the prominent military source. Imperialism was also a key factor because it gave countries important resources as they continued to obtain smaller, weaker countries.

During the 20th century in European nations, countries fought amongst each other in the First World War. The causes of this war and disputed upon to this day, but three of the causes are definitely: The concept of the countries already prepared for war, the strong sense of nationalism, and the prominent amount of national power. All throughout Europe, even in the days of peace before the war, the countries were prepared to fight each other. Individuals saw war as a necessity for life itself (Doc 1). Most nations talked about fighting, but never really acted.

World War II was a devastating war. Nations were being taken over, the economy was going down, and people were choosing sides. The world had plunged into World War II in 1939 because of the Rise of Dictatorship, The weakness of The League of Nations, and the failed policy of Appeasement. Hitler had defied The Treaty of Versailles, which due to the treaty, Germany had lost its land.

The World War 2 is the most large scale war that had ever happened in the world history. It reflects the cruelest sides of the human beings by killing tremendous amount of innocent people. This war not just brought people’s deaths, but also resulted big financial losses to all countries that had participated in it. Many people had to spend most of their time in the underground, apart from the sun, because it was the only place that was considered to be safe. Some of them gave up their hopes, while others cried out for current safety, other than tomorrow’s smile.

The Allied victory was far from inevitable. The author analyzes all the dynamics and all the factors that influenced the final results of the conflict. In the first chapter “Unpredictable Victory: Explaining World War II,” Overy gives an overview of the causes that brought to war. The geopolitical legacy of World War I and the economic crisis of late 1920s certainly contributed to the raise of the Nazism in Germany, and the consolidation of capitalism in the US and of communism in the Soviet Union. The clash of these ideologies quickly evolved a major confrontation in the military, industrial, and resources’ field.

Throughout the ages, wars have wreaked havoc and caused great destruction that lead to the loss of millions of lives. However, wars also have an immensely destructive effect on the individual soldier. In the novel All Quiet on the Western Front written by Erich Maria Remarque, one is able to see exactly to what extent soldiers suffered during World War 1 as well as the effect that war had on them. In this essay I will explain the effect that war has on young soldiers by referring to the loss of innocence of young soldiers, the disillusionment of the soldiers and the debasement of soldiers to animalistic men. Many soldiers entered World War 1 as innocent young boys, but as they experienced the full effect of the war they consequently lost their innocence.

On 28 June 1919, the countries involved in World War I gathered at Versailles Palace, to sigh the treaty which was a symbol of the end of World War I. This treaty is known as Treaty of Versailles. The treaty changed the world pattern, caused conflicts and controversies among victorious countries, and displeased the Germans, contributing to the occur of a more destructive world war - World War Ⅱ. The original goal of signing the treaty is to keep the peace, but every country pursued its own national interests, so, unfortunately, it failed quickly. The treaty is like a blasting fuse, causing a much bigger disaster for people all over the world.

Juggling with school, friends, family, planning for the future, sports, and maybe even having a job can be a lot of weight to carry on someone's shoulders.

World War I and World War II both left European states in ruins, many civilians devastated, the most casualties seen in any war and the economy in shambles. Consequently, the decline of entire empires left many people with confused identities, as these countries were acquired by other countries. The wars would have also established the formation of alliances. The aftermath forced world leaders to take on the task of reconstructing what had been destroyed. These leaders knew that the peace they had sought out in the postwar era was only temporary, but little did they know that the settlements of the First Great War would lead to another war, much more destructive than the previous one.

The Twenty Years’ Crisis 1919-1939: An Introduction to the study of International Relations, the book for which E.H. Carr is perhaps most remembered was written just prior to the outbreak of World War Two (WWII). This particular work of Carr’s is primarily a study of the fundamentals of International Relations, which is exemplified especially by the events of the two decades before 1939, the year the book was published. In the Twenty Years Crisis, E.H. Carr explores the interplay of the worldview between Utopians and Realists. Carr’s work examines why the League of Nations and the peace as implemented by the Treaty of Versailles failed, ultimately resulting in WWII.
