All matter is made of particles called atoms. An atom is smallest unit of matter. A matter can be solid, liquid or gas. When a group of atoms bond together this makes a molecule. The molecule is the base of chemical compounds that is involved in chemical reactions. A mixture of elements is what is known as compounds. Chemical reactions occur when particles react with each other and atoms in molecules get rearranged. Reactions happen either rapidly or slowly. The speed of a reaction is known as the rate of the reaction. This speed of chemical reaction depends on many factors such as temperature, particle size of reactants, and the intensity of reactants. A reactant is the substance that is used up in a chemical reaction to give product, which is the substance that is made at the end of the reaction. Besides, the energy of the molecules that determines how fast molecules are moving is known as temperature. Therefore, the rate of the reaction that happens between molecules is affected by the size of the reactant. …show more content…
In our project we mixed different sizes of tablets and water and see if there is a reaction. The tablets are solids and the water is a liquid we are trying to see what happens when they collide. When Alka-Seltzer have many compounds in them. Alka-Seltzer is a medicine that is used to treat heartburn. It is made by many ingredients, which are bicarbonate, aspirin and citric acid. When the compound sodium bicarbonate dissolve in water, it breaks apart to make sodium ion and bicarbonate ion (HCO3 − ) ions. The reason why Bicarbonate reacts to hydrogen ions it’s because of the citric acid. It reacts to citric acid is so the form carbon dioxide and water The reaction is calculated by using the following chemical
Our original question was what is the effect of different types of water on an Alka Seltzer tablet? What we were measuring was which type of water will make the tablet dissolve the quickest. Our hypothesis was the salt water would dissolve it the fastest, then the pond the second, and tap would take the longest. The results ended up being that the tap water would dissolve the tablet the fastest, then the pond water, and the the salt last. Our three controls are the amount of salt, the amount of water, and the size of the tablet.
Alka-Seltzer is a medical drug that works as a pain reliever and an antacid. The pain reliever used is aspirin and the antacid used is baking soda. When sodium bicarbonate dissolves in water it splits apart into sodium and bicarbonate ions. The bicarbonates reacts with hydrogen ions from citric acid to form carbon dioxide gas and water. This is how the bubbles are made.
If I had a chance to do this experiment once again. I would improve this experiment by actually testing, whether temperature affects the rate of reaction of the alka seltzer tablet, by having the water be hot, warm and cold, and determine at which temperate does the tablet dissolve faster. I could also change the amount of water I used during the experiment, as I only used 100ml of water in a 400ml beaker. I would also change the temperate of the room. A further investigation can study how temperature affects the rate of reaction between water and alka seltzer tablets.
Observe the reaction and record how fast the Alka-Seltzer dissolves. 7. Place an Alka-Seltzer tablet into a second empty water bottle. 8. Pour 16 oz of room-temperature water into the bottle.

Somalie Prak LIBS 4960 Dr. Katie Olivant Chemistry Chemistry is a study of fundamentals of inorganic chemistry. This course is designed to provide you with basic understanding of chemistry and prepare you for more advanced chemistry courses. One concept that I learned in this course was the Atomic Theory. This theory suggests that all matter is made up of tiny indivisible particles that are called atoms. Atoms can be defined as the basic unit of a chemical element or the basic building blocks of matter that make up everyday objects such as a chair, or a table.
Atoms DBQ Atoms make up every object , substance, and material we know of(O.I). An atom is the smallest particle an element can be divided into. An atom has a complex structure, and the knowledge we have of it has changed many times throughout history. This tiny maze of parts has helped us learn important ideas about the structure and study of microscopic particles(O.I).
Some factors that influence the speed of a chemical reaction are: (1) surface area of starting reactants; (2) concentration of reactants; (3) temperatures. The particle theory states that a solute dissolved takes place at the surface of the solvent and the larger the surface area of the particle the longer it will take to dissolve. The smaller the area the faster it will
What are atoms? Well, atoms are the base of any chemical element. Atoms consist of in multiple things, in which these things scientists of the past have discovered, and they are so well known, poems and stories are made about them. In fact, the Periodic Table of Elements is made up of atoms. Atoms are the smallest bit of matter.
If I had a household product labeled sodium bicarbonate, I would add an acidic substance and expect bubble to be created. As we know acid reacts with bubbles when combined with sodium bicarbonate. 2. When a chemical changes or a chemical reaction occurs there is change in the chemical composition with the substances involved. B) Define energy and discuss energy change. Explain what keeps organisms "alive"
Atoms are the basic building blocks for everything we see in our lives today. Atoms combine, share, lose and gain electrons to become molecules. A molecule is a group of two or more atoms that are held and formed together by chemical bonds. Covalent bonds happens when there is both a strong enough attraction between atoms and room for electrons in the outer energy levels of the atoms, they share electrons. This process is what forms a covalent bond.
Introduction: The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate the different types of chemical reactions, those including Copper. There are different types of chemical reactions. A double displacement reaction is a chemical process involving the exchange of bonds between two reacting chemical species. A a decomposition reaction is the separation of a chemical compound into elements or simpler compounds and the single-displacement reaction is a type of
When a solute acts on a solvent a chemical reaction takes place. Here we will be using baking soda and vinegar which are our two components which will cause a chemical reaction. Reactions can be affected by several things such as temperature, concentration and the presence or absence of a catalyst which is a substance which can increase the rate of the reaction. To determine the rate of a reaction there are many methods that can be used.
ABSTRACT This paper scrutinises on the importance of agglutination reactions in clinical testing and diagnosis of various diseases. The ability of various antigens and antibodies to agglutinate when mixed in desired environment has been used as the basis to detect the presence of respective antigens in body. It focuses on importance of this method as it gives the results faster than various other methods and provides visible results. Diagnosis of various diseases can be done by this method provided the antibodies are present in blood, urine, plasma or fluid of bone marrow.
