In history there are a lot of great leaders who stood up for what they believed in and never gave up, such as the books A Mighty Long Way by Carlotta Walls LaNier and Little Rock Girl by Shelley Tougas. In the book there are young leaders who never gave up and had a great impact on young people. 14 year old Carlotta, was in the group with 8 other young teenagers who only wanted to make it to class. Just making it through the door of Central High was a huge relief. In 1957, during the integration in Little Rock Central High school, the media illuminated certain events but showed an inaccurate or incomplete picture of other events.

Walker Manufacturing Company had become wildly successful, with profits that were the modern-day equivalent of several million dollars.” Madame C.J Walker was clearly an empowering woman. “Walker was as generous as she was successful, establishing a network of clubs for her employees and offering bonuses and prizes to those who contributed to their communities through charitable works. She promoted female talent” Madame Walker was setting a great example to the woman and to African Americans.

I’ve only played tennis once, Billie Jean King has played a countless amount of time and she helped out with equal rights in the process. Billie Jean King is undeniably courageous because because she was able to Persevere through her difficulties , she showed Excellence playing tennis, and she demonstrated Discipline while playing tennis when others didn’t . First, If she were to defeat Bobby Riggs, the triumph would be shared by every woman who knew she deserved equal pay, opportunities and respect. This shows perseverance because she knew that if she didn’t win then equal rights for women would be set back 20 years, so she had to practice everyday so she could have a chance at beating Bobby Riggs.

Although some people might argue that Shirley Chisholm does not demonstrate leadership qualities, a closer examination proves that the former congresswoman was a strong leader because of her independence, perseverance,and willingness to take risks. Shirley Chisholm is a great leader because she blazed a trail by being the first African American Congresswoman. For example, “Chisholm indulged her maverick nature in a spectacular gesture. She became the first black woman to run for president” (Morin pg1).This proves that she was the first black individual in her field to run for president so this makes her a trailblazer because all leaders should possess this for the reason that no leader can lead from behind.

When thinking of a historical figure, many imagine a president, king, or general that lead a country to greatness, but never realized some could be the ones who influence the minds of society. Although not thought of as anything, writers and poets hold the key to shaping the society’s mindset without even knowing it. Being a civil rights activist, social activist, and role model for women makes Maya Angelou a historical figure who has made a huge impact in American society and in American history. Born poor and black, she was a childhood victim of rape, shamed into silence. She was a young single mother who had to work at strip clubs for a living.

General George S. Patton is an influential figure in American History for a multitude of reasons. His primary contributions were made through his efforts during World War I and World War II. The thing that makes Patton stand out the most is how well he could command his soldiers and his tank crew.
