Success is a journey, not a destination. Looking back at my previous years as a young student has led me to contemplate on the lessons it has taught me and how it has impacted on my development. I always liked going to school and the learning process was enjoyable. Despite my numerous positive memories, one encounter with a specific teacher has resided with me for the past seven years. This incident occurred during my last days in Standard five during preparation for the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) Examination. My teacher was strict, stern and always serious. I always considered myself a smart, resilient student who always worked to develop my fullest potential. On this particular occasion, I vividly recall being summoned …show more content…
I am of the opinion that my Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) Communication Studies teacher fits the description of an ideal teacher. Miss Communication Studies was a very passionate and dedicated person. I particularly admired her level of expertise in her field and her punctuality. Her brave, strong character was overwhelming, yet she always wore a smile on her face, revealing her pleasant nature. Apart from her scheduled classroom teaching time, she always kept her students' best interest at heart, by conducting lunch time classes and focused on individual-based assistance, exposing her nurturing, diligent and cooperative attributes. I was a shy, quiet and reserved person who was provoked and harassed, but I managed to remain forbearing and patient. After becoming acquainted with Miss Communication Studies, I confided my problems in her and she confronted the situation. She defended me and would keep an eye out for me, while empowering me to be brave and keep focused on my studies. In essence, I believe that her approachable and understanding character were essential in keeping me focused, and is responsible for my academic achievement and my personal
Learn to fail.” By Angel B. Perez, the author explains how a student gained his attention through the honesty the student provided when asked what he expects to learn or experience in college. The student answered with, “I look forward to the possibility of failure.” Failure
How many times have people doubted you, rooted against you, or even wanted you to fail? Well I don’t know about you, but I don’t even think I have enough hands and fingers to count how many times, Jose Valenzuela author of “Blog: Boston Teacher Residency” has been against all odds. Going through a rough four years of high school and almost all of your teachers or counselors either doubt you, don’t believe in you, or want you to fail was very tough, but somehow Jose managed to avoid the negativity around him and focus on the bigger picture at hand. His main idea was to prove people wrong and show them that he was way more than what they thought of him. When people told him negative remarks about how he can’t do certain things or about how he
Failure is an opportunity for some to improve and build upon themselves so they have a better chance to succeed in the future. My junior year at Western Branch was an exciting one with a lot of surprises and disappointments. That year my track team came close to winning the state championship, but with a lot bad performances by the team, myself included, we were not able to overcome the competition. It was an even greater blow when the girls’ side of the team won, despite the boys’ team having more naturally talented athletes. The work that we put in during the summer, fall, and winter felt like it was for nothing more than to lose some weight and get in shape.
Initially, my entire high school career, I have worked exceedingly with every activity that I have done. In this case, maintaining a 3.6 GPA and ranking 14 out of 122 of my classmates has shown my commitment to my education. While attending school every day, I cultivate my academic skills to overachieve expectations. To

Upon beginning my first class at Walden University, it has been difficult to see myself getting through this 8-week course. Furthering my education has been something I have struggled to accomplish for the last 4 years. I almost decided to give up and continue being just a high school teacher. However, being a senior teacher that motivates my students to go above an beyond to reach their goal has pushed me to work hard and start a new journey. Though it is only the beginning of my journey, I can see graduation.
Throughout most everyone’s educational career, teachers and administration have harped on the fact that goals are important. However, it was not until recently that I understood how valuable goals can be in the long run. The reason that goals are important is that they can ease the mind about how much work you are actually doing. For example, when writing an essay, I take it goal by goal; first I write an outline, then I go paragraph by paragraph until it is finished. This makes the workload far less strenuous and make you more willing to jump through the hoops to get it done.
I am the oldest of three siblings, the oldest of my cousins from my maternal side, and the first from both maternal and paternal side to receive an education outside the country Nigeria, better yet the United States. It is a privilege that a few attain and for many Nigerians a dream come true. As grateful as I am, there are a lot of expectations accompanied. Although, doing what is best for me is the common mindset in today’s society, I cannot help but consider such mentality, the waste of an opportunity. For an American citizen, the future is bright and filled with potential.
An archetype is a pattern of behavior that can help us understand ourselves and others. To have a greater understanding of myself, I recognized the person archetype of a student within myself and the archetype of a journey throughout my four years in high school. These archetypes helped me throughout high school and helped me gain knowledge that I can apply throughout my life. My first archetype is one that many people experience within their life, a student. Everyone in their life has learned something either by learning from others or from themselves (Archetypes, Intellectual archetypes).
As I became older, the lenses in which I viewed the world became more open to the challenges that I would face as I strived to achieve my goals. Furthermore, I came to understand that hard work, dedication and having a desire to succeed in life was required to reach my fullest potential. As a look back at my upbringing I reflect on the decisions that I made, the obstacles I overcame, and the successes
Contact Zone Similes and Metaphors are the main literary terms people know when comparing two unlike things. In English 1102 I was introduced to Arts of the Contact Zone by Mary Louise Pratt. The essay was very hard to understand when I first read it. It is still difficult to understand but the more and more I read it the easier it is to find the contact zones to presents. She used terms like autoethnography and transculturation, which leads you to think she thinks on a different level of what is taught to most of us at schools.
The Profession of Social Work as a Career Goal Graduating from high school, I have always had a passion working with kids. I never put into thought exactly what I wanted to do with kids, all I knew was that I wanted to work with kids. At first, my career choice was to become a midwife. There were several complications down the road, in which I could no longer pursue that career choice.
Initially when I registered for Interpersonal Communications it was solely to fulfill my USEM requirements and I reckoned the class as nothing more than an obstacle. My sour attitude did not last though, my first class on my very first day of college was my communications class and I felt extremely welcomed and intrigued. These feelings were reinforced when the second day of class brought an interactive outside activity. I happily participated in and the activity it created an enthusiastic impression within me for the classes to follow.
A sense of accomplishment is invaluable to a person. Not only does a sense of accomplishment build confidence and faith in oneself, but it also allows one to reflect on how wonderful the journey to the accomplishment was, and how every little struggle and triumph was worth it. In the middle of summer, where time seems endless and the stress of the previous school year has been shed by students, I never expected to find out that I scored a five on both of the advanced placement exams I took. Nor did I have one-hundred percent confidence the goals we set as section leaders of the marching band would actually be met. Yet to my surprise, I had the good fortune of accomplishing challenging things in both aspects of my life.
Accomplishments This school was considered a one room school house, therefore, has a teacher I wore many hats. My accomplishments are the many skills, knowledge, and abilities I developed through my one year at this school. Some of the many skills and developed abilities that allowed me to appreciate and understand the importance of preparing students for the twenty-first century. As a teacher, I had to put the necessary principles and application theories into practice for effective instruction and positive behavioral supports that are beneficial to all my students.
