Giles Corey The Crucible

Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible as an outlet for what experiences he was going through during the Red Scare. It is no surprise that Arthur Miller would put things in The Crucible that he and others were going through during The Red Scare. Arthur Miller made these characters the way they are because of his experiences during The Red Scare. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller wrote himself as John Proctor and he purposely made him the way he is and what he goes through. John Proctor and Arthur Miller are parallels of each other in the way of being accused by their own government, not signing the names of communists/witches, and people’s reputations were ruined.

At the conclusion of The Crucible by Arthur Miller, John Proctor exhibits tremendous honor. John’s moving oration just before destroying his confession revealed that he his thoughts towards lying. In an attempt to save his good name, John Proctor would put his life on the line to go out with honesty. Prior to the witch accusations, John Proctor put his good name in jeopardy after fooling around with Abigail Williams.

All he really wants to know is what's going on in the town that he lives in. Giles deserves to know what's happening to the people in his town. After he realized that he said something about the “strange books”, he fought for your wife. (Miller 40) He couldn’t stand for his Martha his wife getting hanged for nothing because they both knew she wasn’t guilty.

A crucible is defined as a severe trial. The title, The Crucible, refers to the many moral tests shown throughout the book. Many accused witches underwent tests of moral strength and truthfulness via the trials. Elizabeth was tested of her truthfulness in court, the girls being tested of their loyalty and truthfulness during the trials of the accused, and Proctor being tested by his lust for Abigail and his desire to live during the trials.

Arthur Miller wrote play The Crucible, which is based on a real story; play begins in a very interesting moment and ends in a very dramatic scene. At the time, when the play was written, witchcraft was a big thing for people. People used witchcraft to accuse other people and take their property, or because they just don’t like them. The story shows us, how do characters have changed from the beginning of the play and until the very end. The Proctor is one of the main characters in The Crucible.

Kayla Tillman 10/29/16 3rd period Russow English 3 The Crucible: John Proctor Throughout the dynamic story of The Crucible ,written by Arthur Miller, many characters are introduced, all with different personalities. One character that stood out in the story was John Proctor because of his growth as an individual throughout the story. In the beginning John is a remorseful man who has a closeted secret that he cannot forgive himself for but towards the end of the story he starts to gradually show examples of courage and bravery.

The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a phenomenal play containing wide varieties of static and dynamic characters. A few main characters are very dynamic and change immensely throughout the play completely shifting former beliefs and ideas. John Proctor is one of these characters that go through this metamorphosis. In the beginning of The Crucible, John Proctor is a man burdened by his sins, but throughout the play his morals and true nature are tested and brought into light, and by the end he learns to accept forgiveness and truly finds the goodness he had been seeking in himself.

This shows how John is a crucible because he is resisting the heat of his past mistakes. Even when put on the spot, he remains intact and pushes her away. Another example of John Proctor acting as a crucible is when he is accused of witchery. When he is accused by a girl named Mary Warren, he does not confess. He instead shouts “God is dead!”

Giles Corey tries to present evidence to Judge Danforth to save his wife who was accused of witchcraft, but Danforth responds to him in anger. ¨

The dictionary defines a crucible as a place or occasion of severe tests or trials. During the late seventeenth century, many places around the world began to have an increased fear of the supernatural. Witch trials sparked by these fears brought great pressure upon all involved. In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, the people of Salem were placed under a lot of pressure as the witch trials were occurring. With pressure mounting, three men from the story each struggled in a different manner; Parris becoming fearful and cowardly, Hale undergoing a change in character, and Proctor taking a stand for what he believed to be right.

The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a dramatic play that expresses a very important message and that is how far people would go to save themselves from the hands of death. There are many characters in the Crucible who are guilty of taking innocent lives, but there are three major characters who, without a doubt, are the most at blame. The play takes place in the city of Salem, a city filled with people that would do anything to keep their reputation clean. Throughout the play, Miller is introducing multiple characters that experience changes in their decisions and negatively influence more people eventually leading up to the witch trials. The main point that the story revolves around is that people would rather lie and blame someone else instead of confessing and accepting the punishment.

The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a novel that describes events that happened in Salem, Massachusetts 1962, these events were called the Salem witch trials. Two important people in the story were John Proctor and his wife Elizabeth Proctor, they were farmers that lived on the outskirts of the town, and they lived with their three sons and their servant Mary Warren. John and Elizabeth are important to the story because they are both accused of witchcraft but they are the only ones who know that the girls that are accusing people are just doing it for attention. John is a caring stubborn man who loves his wife even though she does not fully see it while Elizabeth loves her husband but doesn’t trust his word as much as she used to because of things that happened in the past.

The Crucible “The Crucible” is a play, by Arthur Miller, about the Salem Witch Trials. After reading “The Crucible”, you will be asking yourself, is it necessary for a person to suffer? The answer to the question is shown through the characters, Giles Corey, John and Elizabeth Proctor, and Abigail Williams. John Proctor is a respected puritan man in the community. John had made the mistake of sleeping with, a teenage girl, Abigail Williams.

John Proctor is put through a trial just like metal is put in a crucible. The metal is melted down just like John is hung. In the end, both come out in the purest form. Proctor lived with lies, but finally confesses and not selling out his friends. He was hung at the end of the play, but his name be remembered exactly how he wanted it to be.

The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a play about what happened during the Salem Witch Trials. It gives insight about what people had to deal with in this situation and how they handled it. The trials were basically a big test which helped figuring out whether or not people were guilty of witchcraft. This is an example of what a crucible is. In our world today we still have crucibles and even though they are different than back then, they all relate to each other because of what influence they have on people.
