As the city kept growing and increasing in popularity around the globe, the city itself was being modernized from its dated medieval layout. These modernizations had a direct impact on the culture of the city, the lifestyles of its inhabitants, and the prominence of the city across the world. Paris’ inhabitants were as social as ever, and often enjoyed themselves at cafés and bars. This modernization acted as a perfect catalyst to support the surging wave of capitalism across Western Europe.

The context of the text was to support women’s rights by encouraging women to better themselves as wives by valuing intelligence and culture over beauty. The audience that this speech is targeted towards is women. She specifies women as the audience by tailoring her speech towards women and appealing to their emotions, situations, and circumstances. In this paragraph I will be talking about Marilyn Frye’s article called “Sexism” and I will discuss whether I agree with her argument or not. Firstly, Frye gives an argument for sexism saying “sexism is not always apparent either to those who suffer from it or to those who inflict it upon others. It is imperceptibility of sexism that enables it to flourish in our society” (Frye, p.844). Marilyn Frye is trying to say that sexism is usually ignored in the real world to those who get hurt from it or to the ones who causes it. In my opinion, I will say that I do agree with Marilyn Frye’s stand on this subject for a couple of reasons.

“Virgins”, by Danielle Evans, is a tragic story narrated by a young girl who places what she views as “inevitability” into her own terms. The protagonist of the story is Erica, a young, physically well-developed girl who has her own view on men and what exactly they want from her. Throughout the story, a constant battling environment surrounds her, and one side of her keeps pushing her to the verge of giving up everything - even her virginity. Evans uses the title of the story to question the importance of finite as virginity in relation to the value of a woman’s body. Judy Brady’s “I Want A Wife” is a revolutionary piece that attempted to reveal the unequal roles men and women held in society. She goes through her prose by listing all the responsibilities her wife must have and the ways to make her happy. Brady’s whole article is satirizing these roles and is, in general, very sarcastic in her tone. She mocks a society that has given women an impossible standard and she starts with the deprivation of her education then continues with the role her wife should play in domestic ways, and then finishes with the expectations the sexual aspects of their relationship. I believe that Brady’s underlying message was and still is important for the development of equality in our nation.

He chooses to frame her for a crime she did not commit. The character of Justine Moritz has both inner and outer beauty she shows self esteem, beauty and a friendly personality and she pays for that with her life. In today’s society one of the most difficult objects of a beautiful woman can face is social rejection. May or may not be true but some women see beauty as a threat to steal their man away from them.

Understanding gender and sexuality as socially constructed categories is important because it helps people understand a certain group. Gender and sexuality is expressed in many categories and people must be careful not to mix people in the wrong category. Simply because one expresses their sexuality different from another person does not mean they should be bashed or treated differently. Sometimes it does not matter what you identify as, who you identify with, people will always judge you, so its best people just do what they want. Putting gender in a category helps others not stereotype them as something they are not.

The criteria for mate choice can be initially given by humans and will certainly be different from humans’ criteria in sexual selection.
