The book follows a group of boys who are stranded on an uninhabited island and left to fend for themselves. As time passes, the boys become more savage and violent, eventually turning on each other in a battle for power. This theme is further explored through the character of Jack, who becomes increasingly authoritarian and manipulative, ultimately leading to the death of several of his peers. The novel suggests that without the constraints of society, humans are prone to violence and destruction.

The boys were stranded on the island in hearing that a War is in the near future. “War is not the mere occasion of the novel, but rather the offstage protagonist in this drama of evil determining the behavior of the boys on the marooned island,” as said in Document C. What William Golding and many other soldiers had to experience is an awful and tragic thing. “World War II left an indelible impact on Golding,” Document D. War causes losses and family members and loved ones. The soldiers have to see and watch their fellow soldiers die or get wounded during combat which leaves scars on the inside and out forever.

While others were not wanting to be assigned to killings. After the day’s events many of the men would return to the barracks and drank heavily. Ten to about 20 percent of the men found ways out of the killings, for the other men who didn’t they became desensitize, and eventually started to like it. The police battalion was involved in actions that included ghetto clearing, deportations, and other shootings every day. Seeing destruction everyday changes the perspective of the policemen.

This boy was only dreading his trip to his new private school 30,000 feet in the air before blacking out and finding himself stranded and alone in a deserted island. But within the short time span of five weeks, he’s innocence was taken from him. I am lucky to interview Ralph Bradshaw, age 12, after weeks of silence, of his deadly, horrifying experience in the stranded island he would call “Hell” itself. Many know the tale of the 47 boys mysteriously disappearing and found wild-like, but Ralph knows there was more to it. After befriending Stanley and Simon, (seen in Pg. 2) he was appointed leader by majority vote.

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie was the book I read this month, it incorporated 300 pages. This novel took place on Soldier Island. When I read this book, I did not gain any historical information. The back cover of the book intrigued me because all the characters were headed to mysterious island, without any knowledge about it. Each character’s hardships captivated me because of the interesting outcome it could have one themselves.

This island has no adults, no civilization, and no rules, making it seemingly perfect for a group of young boys. The boys’ adventures are full of insanity, fun, and fear. The plot of this

Vera Claythorne has a very ominous first impression of Soldier Island, “There was something sinister about it.” Later Fred Narracott says that boats can’t land on Soldier Island in bad weather, foreshadowing that the guests will be stuck on the island with the murderer. Christie’s novels suggest that each of the characters could be the novel’s main antagonist.

And Then There Were None is about how ten people were invited to Soldier Island. The ten guests were Mr. Justice Wargrave, Vera Claythorne, Phillip Lombard, Miss Emily Brent, General Macarthur, Dr. Armstrong, Anthony Marston, Mr. Blore, and Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. The guests each got picked off one by one. The murder was the last to die, and killed itself so no evidence was left behind of their doing. The murder started off with Anthony, and continued on with the other guests as the days past bringing fear and madness into their minds.

This shows the human nature of children and men when they are away from society and order for a long time. If they do not get what they want, then they will drive themselves crazy trying to fight and in turn, become savages, who are focused on killing and hunting. They are blinded by their anger and illusions that they forget about the real point, which is trying to escape from the island and their new goal is to kill each other off so they alone can be the chief of the island, but eventually all the boys will have to end up dying from natural causes or battles if they are not saved by a ship. Their morals are ruined and this leads to further chaos on the island. Once the chaos starts to happen on the island, Ralph also starts to rethink his idea of being chief.

In the novel Unbroken, written by Lauren Hillenbrand, American Louis Zamperini’s incredible life story is told. Growing up Louie is painted as a defiant, stubborn kid, who is always getting into trouble.

In the novel, “Lord of the Flies”, by William Golding, he writes about characters who are lost on an island after their plane crashed.

This shows how the sniper’s actions without thought affect him for the worse. O’Flaherty establishes the theme of “The Sniper” by using description and irony. After the sniper turns over the dead body, he realizes what he has done. He was not thinking when he shot the enemy.

As life on the island continues, each of them slowly become bored and duties were ignored, Jack started to get her groups and left duties for hunting, he knew that if he came back with meat, everyone would respect him for giving them something they crave for. This plan was successful as they proudly came back with a pig, others saw their heroic actions and wanted to join so that they aren’t left out of the fun. Jack had achieved his selfish goals but in doing so, failed to keep the fire going and missed a ship when it past by, showing how a someones ego can be so lethal on a society. Once the boys settle onto the island, they inherit new desires and thinking styles, a virulent downfall of civilization starts as they slack off work for personal enjoyments.
