And Then There Were None And The Outsiders

After reading The Outsiders, The All American Slurp, and Cardboard, I recognized that being an individual is more important than following the crowd. These three stories support this idea through the characters and events. My position is right because the events, characters, and themes from these three books, support this idea. In the book, “All American Slurp”k by Lensey Namioka, the main character felt the need to fit in with the rest of the Americans.

Thesis: In the book The Outsiders, Ponyboy Curtis tells the whole story, however, if the novel was told by several characters such as, Soda, Dally, or Johnny, the book would have been told in a much more desirable manner. Lastly, Johnny was with Ponyboy throughout various parts of the book, which would allow us to hear the complete adventure from a whole nother standpoint. The first example of this was seen when Pony and Johnny had just ran away to the local park.

Comparative Analysis The Wednesday Wars, by Gary D. Schmidt, and The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, both take place in the 1960s. When analyzing the two novels, one can compare and contrast the social inequalities racism, classism, and bullying. These inequities enhance the reader’s understanding of how society is separated. While racism is present in The Wednesday Wars, the subject is not present in The Outsiders.

Life is the most simple and the most complicated thing throughout the whole universe. Every single day people are looking for meaning in their lives. However, not many people are able to find out what the meaning of their life really is. Some believe that there are multiple meanings for each person’s life. In the following books, each of the main characters are looking for the meaning in their own lives: The Catcher in the Rye, Into the Wild, In Cold Blood, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

These sum up the book's themes of true love and that life is full of unending adventure, illusion, and discovery.

Love has a variety of different effects on people, if it is genuine it can change people and help them heal their pain but if it is not genuine it can crush and hurt. In Judith Ortiz Cofer's story "Catch The Moon" she states that love can make people want to improve themselves and change for the better. In W.D Wetherell's story "The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant", he states that love can make a person try to be someone they're not, hiding their true self to impress others and then in it all leading to heartbreak and regret. Although both authors have the universal theme of love in their stories, as well as other similarities, they are different when it comes to how the character changes, conflict between characters, how the conflict is resolved,

Love in the story is like the energy in a kid, it drives the story and the characters in the story insane. For example, in the story love is what drove Hero into dying and will end killing Tara at the end, “Why should you go on living when she and I are dead? When no one remembers our names?”

Irving understands that love is more than a desire to be loved; it explains how love

There are comparisons and contrast in the movie and the book “The Outsiders”. For example in both when Ponyboy and Johnny run away from after killing Bob they go on the train to the abandoned church in both. They are similar because in the story and movie Johnny kills bob then runs away with Pony. They go to Dally where he gave them a pistol and told them to jump on the train and get off at the second stop Windrixville and go to the abandoned church on top of jay mountain. Another example of similarities between both is they still have all the main characters in the greaser gang.

To many people the word “Love” does not seems to be something physical that a person can touch or see, but more like an abstract noun. Love is not something that they can touch or to other it's how they are affected mentally. The author of  Love 2.0: How Our Supreme Emotion Affects Everything We Feel, Think, Do, and Become, Barbara Fredrickson gives us another way to view the word love and how it affects us as human beings. Instead of looking at love as a noun but start to look at it as a verb, due to love constantly changing. Fredrickson understanding of love takes a different approach than other by looking at the biochemical aspect of our body band and how it is “designed to love”.

Love is a very powerful emotion that Simmie expresses through her writing. Love can influence your behaviours; such as travelling great distances to be with someone such as Polly, or turn your thoughts irrational and drive you to commit murder, feeling as though it is your only option, in the manner of John

The greasers, the group of boys in the novel the outsiders are outsiders to the rest of society but they are insiders to the members of their own group. What keeps them together is there loyalty to each other when they are being attacked. If they weren’t attacked so often they would not need to form such a tight group. The problem is that there group gives them courage and a sense of belonging but mostly wrecks their chances of a happy and satisfying life.

Love can cause the happiness of the people who receive it, it strengthens and brings out sides of us that we were too scared to embrace, and it causes people to make sacrifices for the benefit of others. Love in this novel was the very core of optimism for many characters. A character who gained the most out of the love of others

William Shakespeare’s “My Mistress’ Eyes Are Nothing Like the Sun” shows that ulterior motives for love can also refer to personality and non physical features of a person. Flannery O’Connor’s “Good Country People” and William Shakespeare’s “My Mistress’ Eyes Are Nothing Like the Sun”, show that love can be influenced by an ulterior motive, through the use of specific word choice and storyline

William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is a story known for being a tragedy and an incredible love story. However, is love more powerful than hate or is it the other way around in this story? Despite the violence and brutality of the book, you can find that love outweighs and is more powerful than hate in certain situations. Many examples can be found in the story and are not just with Romeo and Juliet together. Not surprisingly, Romeo and Juliet are the strongest example that love overpowers hate in the story.
