What makes a murder, or a series of murders justified? The murder mystery novel, And Then There Were None, written by Agatha Christie, is an action-packed thriller in which ten strangers had been invited to Soldier Island, an isolated rock cut off from the mainland. Their hosts Mr. and Mrs. Owen were nowhere to be found. After dinner, each of the ten guests was accused from a gramophone record, that they each had committed terrible murder or murders. Thus began one of the most iconic murder mysteries of all time, a tale of ten guests, who like the famous poem, ‘Ten Little Soldier Boys,’ find themselves murdered one by one in a remote location. The guests must find who was the killer before it was too late. Subsequently, when a murder was committed, …show more content…
Lombard carried around a revolver which he was ironically killed by his own weapon and was not frightened by much and was described in the novel as a wolf and panther hunting for its prey. I believe Philip Lombard deserved his punishment. Lombard was responsible for the deaths of twenty-one people in an East African tribe. When questioned about the murders, he responded by saying, “Story’s quite true! I left ‘em! Matter of self-preservation. We were lost in the brush. I and a couple of other fellows took what food there was and cleared out” (Christie, 2011, p. 67). Lombard showed little remorse and had left the twenty-one African tribesmen to die; he was very unforgive as he showed slight amusement in his confession. Lombard was the second to last guest on the island until he was promptly murdered for his terrible actions. Justice can be seen as unforgiving, but the justice system could not be properly served to Lomnard or any of the ten guests as they each had committed unprovable murders. The murderer on Soldier Island had realized this and they had promptly followed through with their iteration of …show more content…
Marston was six feet tall and had kept a good appearance as he wore expensive clothes. Marston liked to drive erratically and seemed to lack a conscience. I believe that Anthony James Marston deserved his punishment. Marston was responsible for the murders of John and Lucy Combes, two young kids which he had run over while speeding. When questioned about the murders of the two children, Marston responded by saying, “Of course, it was a pure accident. They rushed out of some cottage or other. I had my license suspended for a year. Beastly nuisance” (Christie, 2011, p. 68). Marston had admitted with no remorse for the murders of two young children and had blamed them for being on the road instead of taking responsibility and blaming himself for his reckless speeding. Even after the murder of two kids, he was seen speeding down the road upon his arrival at Soldier Island. After Marston's grim confession, he was the first of the ten guests to be murdered. He had been poisoned with cyanide in his drink and had been brought to justice, as he had committed the murders of two children

The guard stopped pushing him.” (10) Even though this may seem like nothing, it means a lot because some humans think that death row inmates are all hardened criminals. Before Stevenson had heard him sing, he was wondering to himself why this man was on death row. He did not fit the “death row criteria”. Not every criminal is a hardened criminal as we see in this novel, most inmates are wrongly accused of some others

You ponder through what seems like an endless amount of shows and movies when you suddenly get to the murder section. All that can be seen is a row of documentaries and shows about numerous serial killers, which all seem to be popular right now.
Truman Capote’s classic true crime novel, In Cold Blood, examines the definitions of murder and capital punishment and questions whether any form of death or act of aggression is justifiable. The book documents the vicious murders of the Clutter family from the small town of Holcomb, the execution of the two men that killed them, and the antipathy surrounding the community’s response to these men. By painting a candid portrait of the murderers and the reactions of the town, Capote brings light to the irony and hypocrisy of death as an antidote to death. In the context of this novel, the phrase “in cold blood” is shown through these crimes by the lack of empathy and moral qualms involved in both of these killings. With this explanation in mind,
As a new criminal justice lawyer, Stevenson defends McMillan. McMillan was framed and put on death row for a crime he did not commit. McMillan has gone through many illegal circumstances throughout the justice system mostly because he is an African American man. He was
People often associate murder with psychopaths and sociopaths, whom out of malice and corruption, brutally torture their victims to death. While this cliché is over portrayed in fictional thriller stories, it is not the case for all murders. Most criminals have reasons. Occasionally, the criminal defendant is found to have been innocent by reason of insanity. There are multiple branches of morality to consider before deeming one accountable for their own actions.
Even though the murder of Stevenson’s grandfather was so devasting and sad for him and his family, he continues to believe that the kids weren’t born with a mind to want to commit crimes, they were raised to not know
In the documentary The Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal, Morgan Doughty, the girlfriend of Paul Murdaugh, states, “They [the Murdaugh family] would come up with a storyline...when I tell you it's like, you could snap your fingers and it was gone” (np). The Murdaugh family, as some would say, were above the law. Throughout six years in the secluded town of Islandton, South Carolina, five murders occurred and they all lead back to one family: the Murdaughs. These murders were initially seen as mere “accidents,” but when police decided to take a deep dive into the most recent case, the murder of Paul and Maggie Murduagh, shocking new evidence came to light. Alex Murdaugh, the father and husband of this family, was accused of the murder of
The motive was unclear. “I can 't get into the mind of a psychopath,” Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said at a news conference this
The Murdaugh family murders have to be one of the most intriguing and interesting stories that has happened in South Carolina maybe ever. The Murdaugh family, what many looked at as southern royalty due to their wealthy past, came crumbling down when father Alex Murdaugh killed his son Paul and wife Maggie. Firstly, what seems to be the start of the downfall was when oldest son Paul, was involved in a fatal boat crash accident. Paul was “charged in 2019 with drunkenly crashing a boat in an accident that killed one of his passengers, 19-year-old Mallory Beach, and injured several others”.
These officials, along with the public, were primarily judging McMillian’s character based on racial biases and the controversy surrounding interracial relationships, signifying that they were unable to set aside their preconceptions of him and take the newly discovered information into proper consideration. These prejudices ultimately led to an innocent man being sentenced to death, devastating McMillian and his family. Though McMillian was falsely accused in this case, there are many prisoners who were convicted for crimes they did commit who also suffer from these biases. The novel touches on the story of Ian Manuel, a thirteen-year-old African American boy who shot a white woman during a bank robbery attempt. Afterwards, Manuel was sentenced to life imprisonment for attempted murder and endured years of solitary confinement, a seemingly appropriate punishment for a dangerous criminal, which was how the public perceived him.
