Andrew Jackson: A Controversial President

Opinions are controversial, period; but when you mix politics in it, it gets messy. Andrew Jackson might have thought some his decisions wise, but ended up being the opposite, or vise-versa. My thoughts on Andrew Jackson are: I was in favor of some things he did, but others not so much. When you work in politics, you honestly can’t make everyone happy, so I couldn’t expect Jackson to be perfect.

What historical figure do you most identify with? The historical figure that I most identify with is the seventh president of the united states Andrew Jackson. He has inspired me in many ways and did amazing things when he was in office. One of the things that inspired me most about him was that when he was first born he lived in poverty and had nothing when he was a child.

One of the most remembered and significant American presidents was Andrew Jackson. He is remembered as a strong leader and a notable president. Although there have been many great leaders in American history, President Andrew Jackson was one of the main influential characters in the shaping of our nation. He was majorly shaped into the powerful leader that he is remembered today as by his participation in the military. He then served two terms as president, and is remembered today as a truly acclaimed president.

My historical figure is Andrew Jackson and I am going to be discussing his hard life on the things he went through to get to his successful life as the seventh president. It all began where he was born and raised in waxhaws. Waxhaws was near the North carolina and South carolina border. It was a small area, but jackson got through a lot of tough times in that town. Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 in Waxhaws.

Andrew Jackson was a bad president. He was born in 1767 in a backwoods settlement in the Carolinas. He received a scattered and irregular education. In his late teens he studied law for 2 years and became a lawyer. He was successful enough to afford a mansion with slaves.

Andrew Jackson; was he really as atrocious as everyone is saying or his he the president that America needs and wants? Our country has been through a great deal and Jacksons presidency is not even over; a controversy that started before his presidency would the Henry Clay's role in the election of 1824. A corrupt bargain was struck between John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay. The bargain was the Speaker of the House, Henry Clay would have the House of Representatives vote for Adams instead of Jackson If Adams would make him Secretary of State.

Andrew Jackson was a controversial president because many people believed he could be a hero or a villain. Andrew did many things that made different people think different things about him. Andrew Jackson was a villain, and I will be explaining many reasons why. One of the first reasons is because of the Trail of Tears. The Trail of Tears was a horrible act because Jackson forced all of the Native Americans to move west with no time to gather all of their items.

Andrew Jackson lived with his mother and two brothers in California. All throughout his childhood, he was living in poverty and the danger the living in the middle of the Revolutionary War. Jackson and his brothers were often sent through the woods as messengers for the patriots during the war. His childhood filled with war, death, and poverty. The end of the Revolutionary War brought him nothing but the last of his immediate family left dead.

Was Andrew Jackson a good president? Should his presidency be admired? Some people might say yes he was a good president and his presidency should be admired. Other people might say no, he was not a good president and his presidency should not be admired. I’m here to tell you while even though he might not be your favorite president, his presidency should still be admired.

The story of Andrew Jackson’s very controversial presidency. Jackson was a good president but some of the things he did was questionable. He applied a new bill stating that the government jobs should only have a 4 year guarantee of a job in that position. This helped him get all the Republicans out so it could be more fair to Democrats. People questioned it because was it supposed to help him become more powerful or actually help the people of the United States?

The era of Andrew Jackson which was nicknames the era of the “common man” certainly lived up to its name. As the seventh President of the United States, Jackson had a major effect on the life of the common man, in such a way that the life of the common man would never be the same again. Jackson’s aim, after the manner in which he was defeated in the Presidential Election of 1824, despite receiving more popular votes than John Quincy Adams who took on the office, was to reduce the power and the authority of the elite. When he came into power after the 1828 election Jackson began to carry out his proposals. Jackson expanded the voting right to all men, in accordance with the Declaration of Independence of 1776 which declared that “all men are created equal” instead of just the elite.

However, Jackson leaves a legacy of a strong presidency. He has made the executive branch superior to Congress and shows that the president represents the will of the people. What made Andrew Jackson a “good or great” president was his ability to use tyranny to pursue the goals of the American common people. Some of his accomplishments are admirable and ones that deem him a hero but one cannot trivialize his very negative sides which diminish his greatness as

However, he abused this position of power and made several choices that were detrimental to the welfare and rights of the American people. Jackson implemented the spoils system on a national scale and had unofficial members of his cabinet who did not have to answer to Congress. After South Carolinians were upset by the Tariff of 1832 he was angry toward those who did not agree with it. He also destroyed the National Bank and authorized the Specie Circular.

Andrew Jackson was a tough man. He even went by the name of ‘Old Hickory’. Andrew Jackson was a terrible president, but also a good president. There are many reasons why Andrew Jackson was a bad president. These are only the few reasons that we all already know or they are major events stated in US history.

Andrew Jackson inspired many people, showing them how you should stand for your beliefs, fight for what you believe in, along with leading the country to good. Then there is also another side of Andrew Jackson that is evil, mean, cruel, and almost iniquitous. This side of him made him act in ludicrous ways. After looking at all the pros and cons of Jackson's history i think he is a villain.
