Andrew Jackson Hero Research Paper

On a scale of -5 to 5, with -5 being anti-republican and 5 being extremely republican, I would rate Jackson as a -1. According to Rimini, “Jackson himself was fiercely committed to democracy.”

From a controversial party in the White House to signing the Indian Removal Act. It may seem like Jackson wasn't a great president. But, many presidents have made mistakes some worse than others. Jackson's actions have aided in America being like it is today. That being said Jackson was overall a good president just not a good person.

Was President Andrew Jackson a hero or villain? This is a question that is still debated today. Andrew Jackson was the 7th president and the first president from the West. Many different events happened during Jackson’s eight years as president. These events included: Jacksonian Democracy, the spoils system, the war with the bank and the Indian Removal Act.

Jackson was, and is still remembered as a brave man, although some others say he is a war veteran, as well as a war hero, or a hero in general, with the title of our 7th president of our very patriotic nation, the United States of America, which we have fought with Britain for Independence for, some decades before the time of his election, following the previous president John Quincy Adams, who has served before his presidency half a decade before, then after giving the title of Mr. President, which again, he was known as a hero because of his many good deeds he did during his presidency, one of which was dispatching of the National Bank of the United States, which farmers thought was a good deed of hid, because of their Southern beliefs, different

Andrew Jackson Andrew jackson was known as a war hero. When he was a little kid the British had taken him hostage, when he refused to polish an officer’s shoes he was struck across the face. The strike across had left lasting scars, reminding him of what they did causing him to hate them, In the war of 1812, Andrew Jackson defeated the Creek warriors (who were allies of the British). This war made him a major military hero.

Andrew Jackson was seen as a common man the voice of the people by some. By others he was King Andrew, trampling the constitution and instigating tyranny. Jackson’s presidency impacted democracy, through his use of the veto power, and his claim of Clay creating a “corrupt bargain”, which is not a turning point for a rise in democracy despite him giving white male suffrage. During Jackson’s use of executive power weakened voice of the people.

Is Andrew Jackson a hero or villain? I believe that Andrew Jackson is a Villain. The reasons I feel this way because he killed off THOUSANDS of Native Americans and pillaged their land. He abused his power.

Andrew Jackson was one of the greatest presidents who made very difficult decisions for our country. Although his choices were not always the popular decision, he made choices that were always promoting democracy. The things that make a good democracy are: giving people a say in government, having a good leader that you can trust to make wise decisions, peace and stability between each country and other states, and having equal power in the government (checks and balances). Andrew Jackson came into office with a popular vote and great support. His supporters viewed him as a man of the people.

However, he abused this position of power and made several choices that were detrimental to the welfare and rights of the American people. Jackson implemented the spoils system on a national scale and had unofficial members of his cabinet who did not have to answer to Congress. After South Carolinians were upset by the Tariff of 1832 he was angry toward those who did not agree with it. He also destroyed the National Bank and authorized the Specie Circular.

Andrew Jackson, being a tyrant, abused his power in his time of presidency.   He was the 7th president, but before Jackson’s presidency, he had no political experience. One of the only things that really qualified him was the hardships he went through when he was younger. His father had died while Jackson was young and Jackson received the reputation as a “self-made man”, or an independent man.

Andrew Jackson during his time was considered a very patriotic politician he hated the rich, he hated the Indian, and loved the idea of slavery. It has been said that he grew up not educated and had a bad up bring but still managed to get to a high political suture. Jackson at one point was general and had a very decorated portfolio, which made sense he would become president, Andrew was most well know for “The Battle of New Orleans” where Andrew Jackson, prevented the British Army and General Edward Pakenham, from seizing New Orleans nearing the end of that war.

No living human is either entirely virtuous or wholeheartedly evil. Sometimes it can seem that way, but that’s because most of the time individuals hear want to hear what they want to hear. This concept is entirely true in regard to Andrew Jackson, who people can see as a heroic American war hero who came from nothing and stood by his beliefs or the complete opposite. People could also perceive him as an evil, tyrannical leader who forced thousands of Native Americans out of their homes. I believe Andrew Jackson was not a hero but a villain because of the way he treated Native Americans, the actions he took during his presidency, and the fact he was a slave-owner.

He started by replacing many government jobs to officials with his supporters”. This is a major reasons why Jackson was bad. He would be considered an absolute Monarch or King. An example of this is when the Supreme Court sides with the Indians against the state of Georgia, and jackson ignores the supreme court’s ruling. One of the biggest thing that Jackson had done as a president was in 1832. Jackson vetoed a bill that would renew the second bank charter early. Jackson stated “I will kill it!”. He said this because he didn’t like the bank at all and he believed that it made the rich richer and the poor poorer. He said in his veto message “It is easy to conceive that great evils to our country and its institutions might flow from such a concentration of power in the hands of a few men irresponsible to the people.”

Born into a non-aristocratic poor family, somewhere in the Carolina’s on March 14, 1767, was a man named Andrew Jackson. Jackson, also called “Old Hickory” was a very bold proactive man in American history. From being a military hero and founding the democratic party to enacting the trail of tears and dismantling the of the Bank of the United States, the man and his legacy are a prominent topic for scholarly debate. Some believe he was a great president and some believe he was the worse president. But if you look at it from a moral perceptive or in the eyes of a foreigner, Jackson’s legacy was far more villainous than heroic.
