Ferguson is No Thebes In the 2017 Daily Beast article “Antigone in Ferguson: A Modern Tragedy is Now a Greek Tragedy,” David Freedlander claims the plot in Antigone is the same as the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri on 9 August 2014. He contends that the body of Michael Brown lying unburied in the street is punishment for someone who was a “threat to the community” (Freedlander 1). The article centers around a company, Theater of War led by Bryan Doerries, coming to Ferguson and performing portions of Antigone. According to Freedlander, Theater of War is endeavoring to move the “black box” of theater into “places where people… have undergone trauma” (Freedlander 1).

Not only do the papyri contain name with combinations of Semitic and Greek syntax, but they also identify Jews who bear wholly Greek or Egyptian names. For example, a fragment identifies a person as “Antigones the Jew” (CPJ No. 8), a Greek name important to Greek tradition through the Theban plays. This is shown in the play,by sophocles,creon uses logical manipulation to appeal to antigone in order to get her to understand she was in the wrong for not following his directions. On the other hand,antigone uses emotional manipulation to appeal to creon in order to show him that she doesn't care if she dies but she will bury her brother to show him respect and let him rest in peace.

Core values impact choices greatly, and in the play Antigone they may have impacted choices that led to the fatalities of Creon's entire family. Creon had a strong hatred for traitors and it definitely showed in the choices he made. Also he saw the city he rules as more important than his family and it was clearly evident in the choices he made. Then there was Creon's untrusting nature that caused him to make choices he would later regret. Creon's core values heavily impacted his decisions throughout the play and changed his life forever.

Determination In the play, Antigone, different characters demonstrated the difference between being determined and being stubborn. The story Antigone was a classic Greek tragedy, a continuation of the immense tragedy that has already befallen the house of Oedipus. “Tragedy has a satisfying, redemptive ending because the events in tragedy are arranged so well that we would not have the play end any other way, we accept the conclusion” Antigone does indeed satisfy that requirement as a tragic play.
