Argumentative Essay On Brown Vs. Board Of Education

In both documents Brown vs Board of Education and Appeal to Congress for Impartial Suffrage arguments were made on what rights African Americans deserve. These documents are in different time periods but they both address the same issues. Except one is about the education of the African Americans and the other one is more broad and is about the rights that the Africans Americans deserve to get because they are apart of the American population. Brown vs. Board was significant in diminishing the "separate but equal" doctrine. It was a court case that took place in 1954 and discussed that African Americans should have the right to an education and they should not be segregated.

White people and colored people had to go to seprate schools. My topic is going to be about Brown v. Board of Education. I am going to write about the cause and effect on the African Americans and how they were treated then v. now. First,the cause of Brown v. Board of Education.

The supreme court ruled that the racial segregation of public schools was unconstitutional. This was a huge milestone for segregation. After this case came Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King. This case was really a big starting point and also led to the downfall of the Jim Crow Laws. In the first two cases Dred Scott vs. Sanford and Plessy vs. Ferguson, the outcome was not the greatest for African Americans.

Brown v. Board of Education was a lawsuit fought in the 1950s that ruled that the segregation of white and black students in American schools was unconstitutional. Prior to this incident, segregation was still legal in many parts of the country. Desegregating public schools was a prolonged and tedious process. Mainly because the states were unwilling to change. This isn't to say that Brown v. Board of Education did not affect the school board.

They argued that segregated schools deprived African American students the equal protection under the 14th amendment of the Constitution. The Supreme Court ruled that segregated schools were inherently unequal and violated the 14 amendment. Brown v. Board of Education brought America one step closer to securing equal rights for

Board including the future of African-Americans that struggle for equal learning opportunities. The Brown decision had sparked a worthwhile struggle to desegregate public schools and created attempts to make college education more accessible to larger numbers of disadvantaged minorities. This would allow minorities to learn and be taught in safe environments. Also to work and support their own families. Even though desegregation is not such a big problem as it was at the time the case was issued, the education of African-Americans is.

In 1954 the Supreme Court had ruled in the case of Brown v. Board of Education that segregated public schools were unconstitutional and had reversed years of standard practice. This had defied deeply-held societal behaviors and thus caused widespread southern opposition. Formerly in 1955 a case known as Brown II ordered schools to desegregate as quickly as possible. Then, in 1957, in Little Rock, Arkansas, they planned to integrate nine African American students to an all-white high school called Central High School. However, after the town had heard about this a group of protestors had shown up outside of the school to protest and withhold the students from going to school there.

This event of Brown vs. Board of Education helped with the relationships among different races in the United States. According to www.pbs.org, “ Although the decision did not succeed in fully desegregating public education in the United States, it put the Constitution on the side of racial equality and galvanized the nascent civil rights movement into a full revolution.” Even the decision of Brown vs. Board of Education did not fully desegregate public schools it helped with racial segregation.

As a result of the Brown vs. Board of Education decision, The United States legislators wrote the Southern Manifesto in 1956. They believed that the final result of Brown v. Board of Education, which stated that separate school facilities for black and white children were fundamentally unequal, was an abuse of the judicial power. The Southern Manifesto called for the exhaust of all the lawful things they can do in order to stop all the confusion that would come from school desegregation. The Manifesto also stated that the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution should limit the power of the Supreme Court when it comes to these types of issues. 2.
