She knew the dangers that followed her actions. She was only 11 years old and she still had enough determination to make a change. There were a few bumps in her road, like when many villagers told her mother the Taliban would kill her father if they found out what Malala was doing. But that didn’t stop her. Of course her family worried but they never stopped her from making a change for the better.

In Pakistan, women are prohibited from getting an education. Though Marjane and Malala are from different countries under two different extremes of radical Islamic rulings, their educational beliefs are consistent with one another. Just like Marji, Malala grew up in a progressive family where her father, a teacher and protestor, encouraged her to become an educated woman. Inspired by her father, she promised “I will get my education- if it is at home, in school, or any place. They [The Taliban] cannot stop me" (malala, he named me malala).

Women aren't able to get education. She was shot by a taliban man, she wants everyone to have a education and she stands up for women. She was shot by a taliban man because she made a blog about them taking away their education, and this is one thing that made her realize what was happening. They were going after the girls/women in pakistan. Malala believes that they were afraid of women and if they got smart what they could do.

The young, nobel prize winning activist not only preaches for women to fight the odds and societal stereotypes, but she remains a role model amongst the female population as she has rallied and galvanized women from around the world to hold themselves at a higher standard than they are perceived. After a life threatening injury from a bullet wound to the skull by the Taliban, Malala has made it a personal goal to speak for the kids who remain voiceless and unspoken, and to fight against the injustice lurking within societies on an international level.

Malala Yousafzai is the youngest woman to ever receive the Nobel Peace Prize who is from Pakistan. She was shot and left for dead by the Taliban for standing up for women’s education at the age of 15 back in 2012. In Pakistan, women are not capable of going to school because the Taliban prohibits them from doing so. The Taliban is a terrorist group who took over Malala’s region when she was just 10 years old. Malala wrote I am Malala to introduce her life to the world and how women all around the world do not obtain basic human rights.

A role model is a person whose behavior, example, or success is or can be emulated by others, especially by younger people. A role model to me is Peyton manning. Role models should have good leadership qualities, should be confident, and be able to admit their own mistakes. Role models should have good leadership qualities.

Malala Yousafzai and Sherman Alexie are both representations of those who unfortunately do not experience the same and simple journey towards education as most of the world does. In their works, “He Named Me Malala” and “Superman and Me”, Malala and Alexie respectively share their unique experience with the aspect of education that is so common to us. Their journey is full of ups and down, pushes and pulls and successes and failures. It defines a significant part of who they were, are and have become later in life. Their journey while similar on the surface, also was very different when dug deeper.

Malala comes from the patriarch country of Pakistan. In Pakistan women have no rights. Her country also mostly consists of Muslims. Growing up in Pakistan Malala’s country got invaded by the terrorist group known as the Taliban,who wanted strict Muslim laws enforced and wanted women to be isolated from things men can do including education. Being a girl Malala was at risk of losing her right to go to school because the Taliban would go to extreme forces to prohibit girls from going to school including bombing many schools.

On October 9th 2012, Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head by the Taliban on her way to school. Yousafzai is the youngest person to ever win the Nobel Peace Prize for her struggle against the suppression of youth and the rights to education. Yousafzai is known for fighting for women's and children’s rights. On July 12 2013, Yousafzai gave a speech at the Youth Takeover of the United Nations that was organized by the President of the United Nations General Assembly, United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education, Goden Brown. They brought together over one hundred organizations to bring better education for the youth.

The only seventeen-year-old Malala Yousafzai is very known for her bravery and her fight for the right of expression in her home country Pakistan, where human rights mostly are suppressed. She is concerned about equality, human rights, peace and the right for education and knowledge in her country but also all over the world. She started running a blog about suppression of human rights, violent attacks by the Taliban and how the Taliban are against education for women in 2009. Many people were able to read it because it has been broadcasted on a web side of BBC. Freedom of speech is a quite difficult topic in Pakistan and soon she became a target for the Taliban.

However, the Taliban was furious with Malala. Her name was looked up online and from the Taliban it said, “Should be killed” (Yousafzai 118). “Her words defied the Taliban, an oppressive religious and political group that ruled by militant force where Malala lived” (Rowell 10). She did the complete opposite of the Taliban. Malala stood up for education while the Taliban tried tearing it down.

Around the year 2007, Swat Valley, a district located in Mingora, Pakistan, was under control of the Taliban. They started creating policies, which stated that no girls were aloud to go to school. In addition, in 2008 the Taliban destroyed more than 400 schools in Swat Valley. No girl stood up for her rights except for one, Malala Yousafzai. However, October 9, 2012, Malala Yousafzai was shot three bullets by the Taliban on her forehead; fortunately, she recovered.

The origin of Malala Yousafzai’s call to change start when the Taliban started to get rid of girls’ education and rights. The Taliban, a terrorist group that took control of the Swat Valley, inflicted laws that reduced a woman’s rights to be only half of a man’s and laws that restricted women’s rights. The Taliban and General Zia created rules that were unfair like how girls should not have an education. (Rowell 10, Yousafzai 31) Because of all the protests for women’s rights, the Taliban eventually let girls go to school with many restrictions such as wearing a shiela to cover their entire face.
