Alongside, Dr. Roylott has threatened Sherlock Holmes in a violent manner, in order to stay away from Helen Stoner. Ultimately, Sherlock Holmes was certain that Dr. Roylott murdered Julia Stoner, and wanted to kill Helen too, in order to keep his money. While Sherlock Holmes may have indirectly caused Dr. Roylott’s death, he cannot be held responsible for his demise. When the story begins, Helen Stoner is transferred to Julia’s room, due to unnecessary renovations in her own room. In the middle of the night, she is awoken by the low whistle Julia heard the eve of her death. Fearing for her life, she travels to Sherlock Holmes in the morning, asking for assistance. Sherlock Holmes agrees, and in the middle of the night, he camps out in Julia’s room, awaiting the arrival of the snake. In “The Red-Headed League,” several clues helped Mr. Holmes find out what crime was being contemplated and when the crime was going to be committed. Throughout the story, the criminals leave clues like where their crime was planned to take place, how they would proceed with the crime, and who would be partaking in the event. There were five specific clues that pointed to what crime was being contemplated in “The Red-Headed League.” The Red-Headed League was, in fact, the first clue that helped solve this mystery. The whole purpose of the Red-Headed League was to distract the pawnbroker from their operation.

Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. As a matter of fact, he was known as being a risk taker and enjoyed being out and about in the nature side of the world. In the gruesome short story “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allen Poe a nameless narrator tells his story of his drunken and moody life before he gets hung the next day. The intoxicated narrator kills his favorite cat, Pluto and his wife with an axe. Soon enough, the narrator gets caught and there he ends up, in jail. Although, most readers of “The Black Cat” have argued the narrators insanity, more evidence have shown that he is just a moody alcoholic with a lousy temper.
When Albert started to play with the rat, Watson banged a hammer on a metal pipe scaring Albert causing him to cry. Over time the sight of the rat without the banging of the hammer caused Albert to cry.
Holmes and Watson’s antagonist in the novel is the logic aspect of the case. For example, Holmes says “Of course, if...we are dealing with forces outside the ordinary laws of Nature, there is an end to our investigation. But we are bound to exhaust all other hypotheses before falling back to this one.” Also, in the novel, the logical solution and evidence is explained in further detail, for Holmes gives “a sketch of the course of events from memory” in the resolution. There are many subplots in the novel, such as Seldon’s escape, Sir Henry and Mrs. Stapleton, and Sir Charles Baskerville and Laura Lyons, which answered many questions about the case and evidence against Stapleton.

In this quote Dewey suggests that certain environments produce the tendency to believe one kind of explanation and that the only way to progress is to examine this belief and determine whether it is plausible.
