While many believe that assisted suicide is morally wrong and violates the basic tenets of medicine, people should be able to die with dignity and stop their suffering to let them die happier. Assisted suicide has been a big controversy lately and I think it is a good thing to make legal. Terminally sick people should be able to end their pain and suffering.

Because it, murder you just can’t do that. Also the assisted suicide jail law states that it is wrong to kill. But, some people might say that they could of been doing the right thing by murdering the person. In addition to the law, Religion plays a part in this controversy.

I agree with the idea of assisted suicide, because if someone is suffering to the point that they can no longer care for themselves. They may feel that it is there time to go and that person should be able to make that decision. Some say that physician-assisted suicide is an unethical practice that causes harm to patients. Others say that physician-assisted suicide is going to be used unethically and pushed onto those who may not have other options. Although physician-assisted suicide has been thought to contradict medical ethics, the practice's success in Oregon has shown this to be a beneficial form of palliative care. Evidence from Oregon demonstrates that this practice can be used ethically. In addition, physicians can do less harm by abbreviating the dying process.

Every debate is brought about by someone who is willing to do whatever needs to be done to get their side heard. Dr. Jack Kevorkian brought the issue of physician assisted suicide to the forefront of American media during the mid to late 1990s. Kevorkian started out as a physician and became interested in this topic once his mother passed away from cancer. She had no one to help her end her pain and suffering. During Kevorkian’s younger years doctors were even unwilling to prescribe enough pain medication to assist a terminally ill patient with the pain.

The idea of physician assisted suicide is one that has almost always been meet with an uncomfortable stare, even though public opinion has increased since it first became a well known issue in Northern America. Real drive for the movement started in the 70’s when about 53% of the population supported the movement, a large advance from the mere 37% at the start of the 50’s (Drum). As of now, roughly 70% of the entire population support the idea of having the option of Assisted Suicide, yet only four states have passed legislation in the support of ‘Right to Die’ laws. Most of this hesitation to pass the laws is because the ethics behind the idea of assisted suicide have long been viewed as twisted, and this has been because of false information or just a plain lack of knowledge about the subject. Assisted Suicide, no matter how controversial, should be open for the decision ultimately to be that of the individual themselves without the input of anyone else, as the decision to die is the most personal that one can make and should not be skewed by misconceptions or false information.

Assisted suicide is euthanasia of a suffering, severely ill patient performed by a doctor . This is a very controversial topic in today's time. People argue that if someone is terminally ill then they should have the option to end their lives. On the other side of the argument people think the person making the decision might not be in the right state of mind or mentally stable. I view this as a logical way of taking someone out of their sufferance.

Assisted suicide has numerous complexities surrounding the act. Webster’s dictionary definition of Assisted Suicide is:suicide committed by someone with assistance from another person: Physician -Assisted Suicide. Physician - assisted suicide (PAS) involves a doctor who helps a person either with knowledge or the means to commit suicide. Several countries allow physicians to actually help in the suicide of patients, Canada,Belgium, the Netherlands,Luxembourg, and Switzerland. The United States has six states which allow medical aid in dying.

This is very unfair and selfish of the family to keep them alive during this time. They cannot enjoy life because they have no brain function, and are only being kept alive by machines. Most people would not want to live in that kind of a situation. This can get very expensive for the family who would be just keeping them around for selfish reasons because they can’t imagine life without that person. Another thing that is ethical is having a DNR (do not resuscitate) this can be very good because it ensures that people know when the time comes they won’t have to put the decision on the family of when “to pull the plug.”

In recent years California’s legislation has been debating over whether to have an assisted suicide bill (The Editorial Board, 2015, September). Oregon passed a bill back in 1997 allowing the assisted suicide (The Editorial Board, 2015, September). Now some lawmakers are urging others to agree and pass the act, sending the bill to the governor of California (The Editorial Board, 2015, September). California’s lawmakers have seen at least 4 bills come through their legislation like this one since 1995, about the same time Oregon was discussing theirs (The Editorial Board, 2015, September). For many people with terminally illness this gives them the right or freedom to “die with dignity” within their own home (The Editorial Board, 2015, September).

Physician assisted suicide has been an intensely debated problem for years but if used properly, could be an effective way to help those who are suffering at the end of their life. Countless people have been advocating for physician assisted suicide for years and the most famous advocate for assisted suicide was Dr. Jack Kevorkian. He was a pathologist but received the nickname Dr. Death after it was estimated that between 1990 and 1999 he assisted 130 terminally ill individuals in their assisted suicides (“Jack Kevorkian”). Assisted suicide has been extremely controversial because of the different views of individuals. Many believe that assisted suicide is a bad act because of moral issues, yet many others believe that euthanasia should be an option because of their ethical views. Euthanasia is a problem because many people want it to be illegal in their country; however, euthanasia has become legal in some countries such as Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Colombia, Luxembourg and assisted suicide has become legal in places such as Switzerland, Canada, Germany, Japan, Albania, Mexico and some US states like, California, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico and Montana. In my opinion I would agree that assisted suicide is okay. I think that if a person is severely ill, and knows they don 't have much time left because there isn 't a cure, that they have the right to end their own life. The only thing you are accomplishing is making a bill that your family can 't pay off. Assisted suicide is a touchy subject. You would have to look at it from both sides to truly understand it.
