She makes many points in her speech and gives great examples to her claim. Her claim that President Nixon must be impeachment for the water gates scandal and abusing the power of the C.I.A. she sat in front of the committee with confidence that her speech will help impeach Nixon. I believe she achieved her purpose to pursue the audience and the judiciary committee of the impeachment of Nixon. You can see Barbara Jordan get more passionate as the speech goes on. I noticed that she would become the most passionate when speaking on the actions of Nixon. She obviously cares about the constitution. In conclusion Barbara Jordan’s speech at the house judiciary committee at Nixon’s impeachment hearing was an inspirational speech. Barbara Jordan won a seat in the Texas Senate in 1966. Being a part of the civil rights movement she strived for change and cared about her constitution she gave a great speech and it really showed that she would not stand or tolerate even the president to disobey to constitution. The water gates scandal is why President Nixon was being impeached but he resigned before the house voted on the Articles hence Nixon was not impeached during the
She singled out taxes proposal for those that were poor this proposal would harm more than do good and even though Jordan was not able to gather enough support to vanish the proposal at that her attempt. Later when Barbara presented her first bill which she fought for the discrimination in the workplace was passed by 30 to 1 vote. Jordan as well fought for the voting
On July 25, 1974, she delivered a speech on the House floor in which she argued that the Watergate scandal was not simply about a break-in, but about a violation of the Constitution. She said, "My faith in the Constitution is whole, it is complete, it is total. I am not going to sit here and be an idle spectator to the diminution, the subversion, the destruction of the Constitution. " Jordan's speech was widely seen as a turning point in the impeachment proceedings, and it helped to solidify public support for Nixon's removal from office.
Sydney Lopez History 1302 Professor Lewellen July 23, 2016 Two Speeches by Mary Elizabeth Lease (circa 1980) One of the two speeches by Mary Elizabeth Lease was about how the government is being run by money and by the infamous Wall Street. That money has enslaved many people and that it has put many lives in peril. The second speech of the two speeches by Mary Elizabeth Lease was about how women and men are equal because it was given to the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union.
Shirley Chisholm became the first African American woman elected in the U.S. Congress and run for president as a Democratic candidate. Despite losing the presidential nomination Shirley Chisolm continued to be inspiration for young African American women across the United States. Chisholm was a great orator that used her voice to improve racial inequality and women rights for all Americans. Her speech given on the floor of the House of Representatives in 1968 will forever immortalize Shirley Chisholm’s dedication to improving human rights. The use of fallacies throughout her speech were used to captivate her audience and bring attention to the injustice that was going on in America.
During interviews with White House officials, a special committee of the Senate, named the Senate Watergate Committee, was told that there are tapes that Nixon had secretly recorded. The Senate, with the “okay” from the House of Representatives to impeach the elector, demanded these tapes be given over, as they would help in their argument of illegal activity. According to Article 1, section 3, it says that “the Part convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgement and Punishment, according to the Law.” This gives Congress the right to indict Nixon, even after his removal of office.
In the 1960s the African Americans were freed, but did they really have all the rights they were promised? Racial conflicts were everywhere. Lyndon B. Johnson was current president and was trying to encourage congress to pass a bill called The Voting Rights Act. To influence the vote he gave the speech “We Shall Overcome.” In “We Shall Overcome” President Lyndon Johnson used ethos, pathos, logos, and other rhetorical devices such as allusions, repetition and appeals to authority to persuade congress to pass the act.
Today, millions of women can implement their rights to vote in all elections in the united states of America, but this (rights) did not come easily to those women who sacrifice their lives to make this happen. In the speech “Address to Congress on Women’s Suffrage”, Catt delivered her message for women’s right from a firsthand account of what she had experienced as a woman living in the United States of America in the 19th century. She advocated for the rights of women to vote because she believes in equal rights and justice for all citizens. The speech was very successful because of the use of ethos, pathos, and logos.
Rhetorical Analysis of “Women’s Rights are Human Rights” For a long time, women have been treated badly by the society that they live in. They have been killed because of dowry, they have been suffering from rape, and they haven’t been treated equal as men. Women were not allowed to take important decisions of their life, and they didn’t have a right to speak up for themselves. Therefore, Hillary Clinton was supporting women’s right in her speech, “Women’s right are Human rights” by talking about how women do not have equal rights as men, and how they have to go through tough situations.
In the 1960’s during the era of the Civil Rights movement, America had been divided by the voting rights that were not given to the African Americans. Although, a decade ago the African Americans had been freed from slavery, but they were still not considered “equal” because they weren't able to vote. The discrimination in the area even had political leaders affected, therefore many of those political leaders during that time attempted to put an end to the several agonizing events going on. Lyndon B Johnson, a white persistent president speaks out to the lawmakers using compassionate encouraging appeals about voting for Civil Rights, in order to unify the nation “to build a new community”. President Johnson utilizes many devices in his speech such as anaphora, emotional appeals, and
This scandal was likened to the Watergate scandal Richard Nixon’s presidency was plagued by, as both President Nixon and President Clinton initially denied the allegation, however the scandals remained a high topic of interest (Tindall & Shi, 1464). The investigation involving the speculated inappropriate relationship between President Clinton and Lewinsky was dubbed “Monicagate” and gained national attention (Tindall & Shi, 1465). President Clinton eventually testified before a grand jury in August 1998, making him the first United States president to ever testify before a grand jury (Tindall & Shi, 1465). During the trial Clinton admitted to inappropriate relations with Lewinsky and issued a televised, public apology to the country. The trial and apology were not the end of President Clinton’s troubles with Monicagate; in October 1998 Clinton was the center of an impeachment inquiry and on December 19, 1998 he became the second United States president to be impeached (Tindall & Shi,
Kathy Zboyovski, a student recruiter from LECOM, gave an extremely informative and in depth speech on the several different majors that are offered at the school. The information was presented in an organized and chronological fashion. During the presentation, there was an adequate number of visual aids, which kept the audience attentive throughout the speech. The visual aids consisted of several handouts, as well as, a powerpoint presentation. However, there were several distracting mannerisms that occurred throughout the entirety of the speech.
The objective of this speech was to expose the flaws of the government to the nation and to promote equality for all. Little’s demand for justice (along with other infamous human rights activists) was heard and the civil rights movement was put into action. Due to this influential speech and many others with the same goal, all Americans, no matter how diverse, are all equal and deserve the same rights as anyone
She presented a strong position in that her goal was to overturn a system that was “built upon the broken hearts and prostate bodies of her countrymen in chains” all while appealing to duty and responsibilities of the men who stood before
