The author explains the history on how the gang started and why members have joined and what lead to the violent war in Quebec Canada. “Only members of the club knew what exactly happened in Hell's Angels-owned establishments, and becoming a member was, and is to this day, a notoriously difficult and time-consuming process.

The Outlaws Motorcycle Club were actually called the McCook Outlaws because of where they were founded in the town of McCook, IL. the year was1935. In the year 1950 when new members from all over Chicago began to join—they moved out of McCook to Chicago. The McCook Outlaws became the Chicago Outlaws and they changed the logo. The winged motorcycle and old English letters were replaced by a small skull were embroidered on black western style shirts.

Ask the average American to name a gang they are familiar with and chances are the response will be either the Crips or the Bloods. Over four decades ago, African American youth founded these gangs after many years of oppression, marginalization, and institutional racism. The Crips and the Bloods, who originated from neighborhoods of Southern California, have now spread across the nation with a presence in thirty-two states. They changed the American landscape forever.

In Northern California Hispanic gangs graffiti is distinct in the fact they are known to tag the number “14” which in the alphabet is the letter “N” for norteno or northerner. These gangs fall under the geographic area opposite of that of Surrenos which is the area just north of Bakersfield up to the state border of Oregon. The nortenos also pledge allegiance to a prison gang but not the Mexican Mafia. The nortenos pledge allegiance to their own prison gang called “Nuestra Familia” or in English “Our Family”. Similar to southern gangs they pledge allegiance by following order from within the prison by the Nuestra Familia shot callers and paying “taxes” from their drug sales.

The city of Las Vegas has changed rapidly from becoming a beautiful city to a violent place to live in. The city has seemed a rise in homicides as well in the last few years. The strong presences of these gangs are taking innocent lives and making the community a harder place to raise a family in. Many of the gangs in Vegas account for most the drug trade, as well as the staggering homicide rate. The gang problem is not only a problem in Las Vegas, but it is all over the world.

Victor M. Rios was born in Mexico. When he was two years old he immigrated with his mother to Oakland, California. He went through a tough childhood and he and his mother moved several times throughout poor neighborhoods such as West Oakland, The Fruitvale District, and Elmhurst. As a result of growing up in this kind of environments he was forced to be part of Latino East Oakland gangs. Stealing cars, selling drugs, getting into street fights and having problems with police was all he would do until he was 15 years old.

Most inmates who are recruited mostly for their protection are usually the ones who get out of prison in 1 year or less. Therefore the gangs use them once they are out or threaten them. Introduction A gang is an organized group of close individuals who in most cases are friends or even family members with an established leadership structure. Gang engages in organized crimes claiming ownership over a territory. The Aryan Brotherhood (AB), is the white supremacist prison and street gang and a national organized crime performing syndicate. The AB was founded in 1964 by Irish bikers to provide protection for white inmates in prisons, it is currently the deadliest and largest prison gang in the United States. The estimated number of its members on the streets and in the prison is 20,000 and are guided by their belief strong brotherhood bond of vengeance, not afraid to die for a brother.

Prison gangs thrive on crime within the facility. If not addressed their involvement in crime will continue to grow and pose a threat to other inmates, staff, and the institution. If procedures are not put into place then gang membership will only continue and remain a safety concern. Administration must ensure their staff members are adequately trained and know how to act and deal with the gangs. Because the prison community is so private more research needs to be done to understand the workings of prison gangs and get more current, detailed, data.

According to the NGCRC, SOA is a collection of characters that portray make-believe bikers, whom do not represent the real lifestyles of true Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs (OMC's). Gang Definition and Classification Classifying gangs is no simple task and to begin you must thoroughly understand the definition and requirements of being classified as a such. There are multiple definitions of a gang, according to The Modern Gang Reader but the one I will focus on is “A street gang is any durable street-oriented youth group whose involvement in illegal activity is part of its group identity.” Now that the definition has been identified it needs to be broken down further to clearly differentiate why this definition is essential.

But there can also be a forced alliance as many can be compelled to join or work for a gang under threat so they don’t have a choice and have to follow orders for the sake of their own lives. Much of whether gangs are seen as a social problem comes from perspective. Society is more prone to seeing gangs in a negative point of view because the social reality is not reaching the ideals and standards of people’s conception of a perfect world. Many external factors such as the media and personal opinions encourage a bad outlook on gangs. The media inflicts fear and depicts gangs to be a threat, which the community looks at in a negative view.
