Two types of compounds are acids and bases. An acid is chemically defined as a molecule that donates H+ ions. Acids have three main characteristics: they taste sour, they conduct electricity when added to water (though they are covalent), and they turn blue litmus paper red. Bases are chemically defined as molecules that accept H- ions. Bases taste bitter, are slippery to the touch when dissolved in water, and turn red litmus paper blue. Litmus is a type of compound called an indicator: a substance that turns one color in the presence of acids and another color in the presence of bases. This is the reason that the red litmus papers and the yellow indicator papers turned blue when they touched the Windex®, Ivory® soap, Tilex®, and Comet®- these
What general rule can be followed when using Litmus paper? If the red litmus paper reacts with a base the place of contact will turn blue. If the red litmus paper does not change color, then the solution is an acid. In contrast, if the blue litmus paper turns red when it comes in contact with a solution,
Something that was interesting to find out though, in the description of the reagent color test they show the lighter color on top and the darker one on the bottom. But just as the test that was conducted showed and what Officer had said was that the darker color is always on the top and the lighter on
Goals The primary goal of this experiment was to identify an unknown compound by running various tests to determine the qualitative solubility, conductivity, and pH value of the compound. Tests were also performed for the presence of specific cations and anions in the compound. The second goal was to discover the reactivity of the unknown compound by reacting it with different types of substances. The third goal of this project was to calculate the quantitative solubility of the unknown compound in water.
For this lab the knowledge to tell the difference between a chemical and physical changes was needed. To tell this the knowledge of the five signs of a chemical change was needed. These five signs are color change, odor change, production of bubbles/gas, production of heat/light, and the production of precipitate. Also prior to the lab one question was provided that needed to be answered. This question was what chemical must be present for a color change.
In Vickey Delany’s novel, Blue Water Hues, the character named Ashley Grant decided to leave her life in Canada, starting a new one in the Caribbean. Tragic murders have occurred within this island ever since she arrived, causing a deep sense of trauma and depression of which is bottled up and hidden away from her family and friends. The author illustrates the different emotions she experiences in which Ashley Grant bottles up and hides from her friends and family. With that being said, the story develops a sense of the inevitability of the deaths of each and one of her loved ones, which causes Ashley Grant to undergo trauma and apprehension of the tragic future. I personally relate to this story with past experiences of my own, because the
and and Colorguard have been practicing constantly, and achieved many awards during the last few parades. The members of Colorguard and Band have been working their tails off every day to ensure more achievements in the future. Band members have been practicing everyday to get everything right. They start practice at 7:40 a.m, and play through the first period of the day with another period for Concert Band and after-school practices until 9 p.m. To get prepared for competitions, they all must arrive on time and do the visual and music parts of their warm-ups.
Sometimes pain can put you down, but it can also make you strong. The story, Gathering Blue, by Lois Lowry is a fictional novel that takes place in the future in a dysfunctional village where imperfections are unaccepted. Kira, a young disabled orphan girl, is taken in by the Council Edifice to work on the Singer’s robe for her beautiful threading skills after her mother died. While working on her new job, Kira learns lots of new skills, and is having a pleasant time until her friend, Matt, surprises her by bringing her father, whom she presumed dead, from another peaceful village, finding herself pressured with the tough decision of whether she should leave for the other village where disabilities are accepted or to stay where she is with
Authors can persuade readers by using different types of persuasive techniques to get their claim across. One persuasive techniques is loaded language. Loaded language is detailed words used to cause powerful emotions or feelings used to persuade the readers. Authors control their language and word choice by using positive and negative connotation to impact their audience. In R.E. STUBBLEFIELD’s, “ All LIves Matter and Blue LIves Matter Supporters miss the point” claim is people that say all lives matter or blue lives matter you are have to realize that black matter too.
Conflict is to be expected in any group and, if managed properly, can actually lead to creative ideas and solutions. If managed incorrectly, however, as in the Blue-Green exercise, it can destroy a group. What lessons can be drawn from the Blue-Green exercise about conflict and competition within organizations? How do you see the Blue-Green exercise being played out in real life, within your own organization?
2.) “The Yellow Wall-Paper,” story resonates with many people who feel different from others, also they have suffered from depression or some other type of mental illness. The story seems to hold a message that not every order or advice given by a doctor, loved one, or friend is the correct information to take. Also, that people should listen to their own bodies for what they need to do to feel better most of the time unless they have really gone insane. It is also a good example of how to drive someone crazy by keeping them isolated in a room without any real company or activities for them to do.
Sonny’s Blue by James Baldwin took place back in the 1950’s in the city Harlem, where blacks' lives were actually tough. There is two main characters of the story, Sonny is a troubled young man who becomes addicted to heroin at an early age in his life and also the narrator’s little brother. The narrator has an unknown name, but he is a successful working math teacher and raising a family with all the chaos around him. In Africa there’s about 17 million kids not in schooling, and the ones in school learn so little while in they are in school because the education system isn’t great. That’s because the kids lose their parents, can’t afford to provide for themselves, and also lack of education.
“In 1775, more than a million pounds of indigo was exported from South Carolina to England” (Indigo’s Political, Economic, Cultural History 1). This massive amount of dye being traded was due to many factors that made it nearly the perfect trade commodity. The process of indigo dye being made by slaves in South Carolina in the 1700s is shown very well in the book Someone Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill. The production of this indigo dye has an extensive history of being extremely arduous to produce naturally, but results in a compact substance that will last a long period of time and be very valuable.
Acids are proton donors in chemical reactions which increase the number of hydrogen ions in a solution while bases are proton acceptors in reactions which reduce the number of hydrogen ions in a solution. Therefore, an acidic solution has more hydrogen ions than a basic solution; and basic solution has more hydroxide ions than an acidic solution. Acid substances taste sour. They have a pH lower than 7 and turns blue litmus paper into red. Meanwhile, bases are slippery and taste bitter.
Strong acids and strong bases are strong electrolytes and are assumed to ionize completely in the presence of water. Weak acids however, only ionize to a limited extend in water. Any weak or strong acids when in contact with any weak or strong alkali will start to undergo neutralization regardless of their volume. When an indicator which is present in the acid-base mixture and have experienced colour change, it indicates that the mixture is in right proportions to neutralize each other and is also known as the equivalence point.
These practices are likely to make it more likely that the police would catch criminals. However, they may also make it more likely to be the color of innocent people would stop, question, requiring consent to search the vehicle, even if the individual who never thought of the game in their decision-making. Hence color blindness itself does not guarantee the same risk of being intercepted. The rest of this section provides an analysis of this proposed study whether to ignore the significant size of the police fair practices. I would say that some of the unintended inequality also raises important normative concerns, so there are good reasons for research should investigate their level and why.
