The author of the novel “Riot”, is Walter Dean Myers and the book was

published in 1996. The novel’s location is in New York City. This novel’s time zone is in

July of 1863. Walter Dean Myers created a flashback by having the story setting by in

the 1860s. Walter Dean Myers, “ The author” never gave a main character role,

because the whole story was a like play based on a true story. Anyway, this whole story

tone was in desperate situation in the Union and Confederate war. The message of this

report is finding ones self.

The protagonist of the story is the 15-year-old girl named Claire who’s personality

is half- irish and half black. Also, she is a wonderful and beautiful woman. This

In my opinion, I will relate to the main character Claire, because she is in a desperate

and sorrow mood. She don’t want to be killed.

Walter Dean Myers related to the main character lifestyle by showing the audience

Claire's mood and how is doing when the war is in place. It’s not a character problem, it

is an outside problem because the war is trying to force Claire to find out her real

identity and discover who she actually is. What can happen is : End the war, then Stop

the city from being tortured and destroyed, then last find out her actual identity. In a

conclusion, she had to begin the hard journey of remaking herself and her identity. This

title relates to the story because both of those involved in having personal arguments

with each other.

Both the title and real life and to begin the hard journey of remaking herself or

himself and their identity. There is no actual difference, the story is already based on a

true story or has evidence based on Union v. Confederate story.
