“Renowned as America's first Public Enemy No. 1, Capone came to Chicago in 1919 at the age of twenty and within three years became one of the city's most successful gangsters” (Karamanski). In other words, Al Capone had become in a short time frame become the most dangerous man in Chicago during the 1920s and everyone’s attention was turned towards him. His gang had become the most powerful gang to have ever existed in the city and to do that Al Capone had been able to find ways to stay undetected by the police force and even the FBI(Federal Bureau of Investigation). Everytime that they came close to catching him he always had an alibi and proof to back up what it was he claimed he was doing or where ever it was that he had claimed to

Al Capone also known as Scarface was a 1920’s mob boss in the city of Chicago, Illinois. He came from a family of Italian immigrants and he was raised in New York City. Capone was part of a gang in New York until he got a invitation from Tarrio in 1920 to come to Chicago and join his mafia. But in 1925 Tarrio was almost killed in a shootout with a rival gang so he steps down from mob boss and hands the mafia to Capone. Once Al became the boss he started to sell whiskey which at the time was illegal because of Prohibition.
On my family fued essay i chose Al capone and Bugs Morgan because while I was reading I liked the history of them and in the next four paragraphs i will tell you what they did how they did it and when the did it. In the 1920s, gang warfare threatened the streets of Chicago. In the midst of prohibition, mobsters were making a killing by providing alcohol to thirsty cityfolk from all walks of life. The infamous Al “Scarface” Capone ruled with an iron fist, and at his peak was earning an astounding $60 million per year (about $700 million today)—and yet he controlled just half of Chicago. By 1929, only one man posed any real threat to his monopoly on Chicago crime: George Moran, who headed his own gang of criminals.
Capone thought he could take it into his own hands by bootlegging liquor and beer throughout Chicago, but other gangs wanted to join in creating competition. The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre
1929 was when he commit his most remembered crime now known as the Valentine’s Day Massacre where he and an elite group shot down seven of their rivals. They did not see it coming considering that they were disguised as policemen. This among other stunts was admired by residents and even police of Chicago. His reign in 1927 through 1931 made many view him as the self-crowned ruler of Chicago’s bootleg operations and prostitution
He started his criminal career as a member of the "Five Points Gang", and later became the boss of the "Chicago Outfit", who made their money through gambling, prostitution, and bootlegging. Al Capone was famous for his corruption, his ability to evade law enforcement, and his violent tactics and murders. He is believed to be responsible for the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, as well as over 200 murders. After many years of crime, he was convicted in 1931 on charges of tax evasion and sentenced to 11 years, and after being released he died in 1947 of syphilis. During Al Capone's life, the United States was slowly recovering from World War I, and Prohibition had become a significant topic within the country.
Al Capone was born in 1899 in Brooklyn in New York. He was born Alphonse Gabriel Capone. His parents Teresa Capone and Gabriele Capone were Italian immigrants. His father were a barber and his mother worked as a sewer. How could Gabriel Capone end up as a mobster (gangster) and a murderer?
Valentine's Day Massacre. With the top spot of the north side organized crime business in need of leadership, the notorious "Bugs" Moran took over. Early in 1929, Moran struck the Capone south side crime gang when they gunned down one of Al Capone's men, Pasqualino Lolordo. This murder so infuriated Capone that he vowed to get even . An ambush was arranged through a contact in Detroit who contacted Bugs Moran to arrange a shipment of bootleg whiskey.
When people hear the name “Al Capone”, they usually don’t associate it with a hero. However, various acts carried out by the 1930’s mobster, such as opening soup kitchens for the poor, led some to call him a modern day Robin Hood. This being said, Al’s violent and illegal ways cannot be ignored, making Al Capone a tragic hero. A tragic hero is a person or character who has positive intentions, yet has a tragic flaw that ultimately leads to their downfall. Although Al Capone was born in rough conditions, and grew into the notorious mobster that he was, he also should be remembered for all of the good that he did for the world.
It wasn’t unlikely for a bar owner to be forced into buying from Capone from the use of violence. Capone became obsessed with fame and money. He would shoot down anyone who disagreed with his ways without even looking back. His lack of hesitation caused the deaths of around seven hundred Chicago citizens, and the most brutal massacre that Chicago had ever seen. The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre was an event where Capone sent some of his men to mow down one of his bigger enemies, Bugs Moran.
Capone kept bootlegging and making money. Everything was going good and Capone had everything under control besides the few gangs that kept on trying to take his turf. So eventually Capone got tired of it and ordered them to get executed. Thus leading to the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.
Valentine's Day Massacre was one of Capone's biggest, most notorious, bloodletting of all. His biggest rival was Bugs Moran. He had intervened with so many of Capone's deliveries that Capone decided to take him out. He hired killers and they devised a plan to carry this out and get away with it. On February 14, 1929, Moran had a huge shipment of Canadian whiskey coming in and a few of his members of the gang were awaiting the shipment to come in.
Additionally, during Prohibition, 32,000 speakeasies, illegal liquor-serving nightclubs, replaced 15000 pubs. Illegal liquor trade became a $3.5 billion industry as of 1926 and gangs of bootleggers were formed. In 1929, Al Capone’s gang shot seven members of their rival gang. This event, known as the St. Valentine’s Massacre, increased competition for control of the market. Evidently, the laws of Prohibition were disregarded and protested by many.
But his downfall started on The Saint Valentine Massacre. This was an attempt to kill the new leader of NSG, Bugs Moran. Capone rented an apartment across the road of NSGs headquarters to see all their movements, and habits. Lookouts signaled for gunmen disguised as police to start an attack on the building.
