Character Analysis: We Beat The Street

The support of friends and family can help contribute to a character's ability to overcome difficulties. In The One Safe Place by Tania Unsworth, Devin was able to overcome his problems with the help of his friends and family. Devin's grandfather helps Devin overcome his difficulties throughout the story. At the beginning of the book, Devin was struggling to take care of the farm on his own when his grandfather died and remembered his grandfather once said: "' You'll go there someday too, Dev.' His grandfather had told him 'When you're ready to leave.'"

In The Lesson Before Dying, there are many instances of racial discrimination and inequality, but there are also several accounts of lessons being taught discreetly. Several main lessons that are taught in this novel is that humans cannot be dehumanized by other people from injustice, accepting your fate, and that change is imperative. For centuries, people have always judged and made their assumptions about a person just by their actions and outlooks on certain subjects. If people degrade each other's opinions, there is no way that the world can truly move on to making new inventions and expanding our knowledge of unknown entities because the public is too busy defending their opinions. It is imperative that people change their ways of making other people feel bad, especially when some are only judging by race or sexuality.

The author not only knows how to use character development, but he uses the literary element of dialogue. Without this element we would never see that everything ends up fine, we would also never see what the father was talking to himself about. The author actually uses dialogue to tell the whole story. He uses dialogue to get his points across, to make sure the reader felt exactly what he wanted them to feel. In the beginning, he was talking to himself saying that “My son sucks at soccer” (21).

Can you imagine living to be over one hundred years old and being able to spend those years with your sister as your best friend? Well, in the book, “Having Our Say,” by Amy Hill Hearth, with her main characters of Sarah L. Delany as Sadie, and Elizabeth A. Delany as Bessie, tell their story about their struggles and accomplishments when growing up in the late 1800s. However, they hold a very strong position of life long issues such as, religion, racial equality, and valiancy. The sisters had very unique personalities that described who they were. In my opinion, I strongly feel I have an association with the Delany sisters, especially with Bessie.

The Envious Envy, is the desire to want something that someone else already has. Envy can cause one to go mad, and do something regrettable. Throughout the novel The Cuckoo’s Calling there was one character in particular who was very envious. The Cuckoo’s calling is a novel originally written by J.K. Rowling the author of the Harry Potter series whom chose to be known as Robert Galbraith because she worried her readers would compare it to the Harry Potter series, and expect to much of her. This novel takes place in London during the year of 2013.

The help 1. My favorite character was Skeeter. She was my favorite because of how brave and how much she wanted to make a change. She was so determined and never gave up, when so many other people would have she just kept at it and made a difference. She added her passion and deterinmation to the story.

The movie “ The long walk Home ” provided the viewer with multiple major characters that seemed to be courageous, like Odessa who stood up for herself in the face of a white dominated society. Although, as courageous as Odessa was, she did fail to outmatch Miriam as the most courageous character in the movie because Miriam was able to not only defend herself but defend others as well, she also breaks stereotypical ideas of woman in 1955, as well as remain unfearful throughout the movie. For example, as explained before Miriam Thompson broke through stereotypical ideas that were held over woman. These stereotypical ideas were that a woman should stay home, take care of the kids, clean up, as well as treat her husband well by making him breakfast and tending to him after a long day of work.

In the novel, On the Road, Sal’s and Deans’ relationship is different than any other characters in the novel. Sal clearly makes Dean out to be a hero.
