Pattyn Von Stratten Burned, written by Ellen Hopkins, describes the hardships that Pattyn Von Stratten is faced. Pattyn is the oldest of nine children with the help of her sister Jackie; they help raise their siblings. Pattyn 's mom was a very depressed mom who did not take to her children, and her dad took to Johnnie Walker and wrongdoing on his wife and two oldest children. Being raised mormon has questioned her faith due to the abuse and neglect of her parents. While she is questioning her faith, she gets in some trouble and gets shipped off to her Aunt 's house in Nevada where she finds the love of her life. With her living in Nevada, she finds the strength to believe in herself, and she finally feels like she is at home. "Concrete …show more content…
As a result to all of her pain, Pattyn began to act out and put herself into situations that were against her parents and the churches wishes. "Home" performed by Three Days Grace (Songwriters: Adam Wade Gontier) (Link to Lyrics) "Home" is a very expressive rock song that emphasise the need to leave the house he is in. The lead singer talks about how he tries to satisfy and be their for his significant other, but that doesn 't stop them from being disrespectful and rude. The beat of this song helps to show readers the frustration Pattyn had toward her father. The harsh tempo helps demonstrate how rebellious Pattyn is feeling and how fed up she is with being ignored and abused. When Pattyn is at her place of residence, she feels very alone unless she talks to her sister Jackie. No child should ever feel like they are unwanted, and their home is not a home. Thankfully her dad came to his senses and sent Pattyn to live with his sister. "I Melt" performed by Rascall Flatts (Songwriters: Joe Neil Thrasher, Jr.) (Link to …show more content…
He is very passionate about his wife and gets butterflies in his stomach because he loves her so much. When the band is playing this song you year the love and the softness in their voices and it helps show how love should really be. I chose this song to relate to Pattyn because when she was in Nevada at her aunts she found the love of her life named Ethan. They spent every moment they could with each other and that made Pattyn feel loved, which she had not felt in a long period. Every free moment they had they spent it together which helped Pattyn realize she is a person, and she deserves to be treated as one. Ethan was everything Pattyn needed because he showed her how a man was supposed to treat a lady and how real men do not put their fingers on women. Ethan also made Pattyn feel like she was the prettiest girl in the world, and no one has ever made her feel that way, not even her parents. "There Goes My Life" performed by Kenny Chesney (Songwriters: Wendell Mobley and Neil Thrasher) (Link to Lyrics) "There Goes My Life" by Kenny Chesney is a very heartbreaking song about a young man who just found out that his significant other is having a child and how his life is over. When the song is being played, you can hear the emotion and the disappointment that is being displayed in his voice. The lyrics below specifically relate to Pattyn: All he
Pattyn Von Stratten is one of several daughters raised in a Mormon home by their abusive drunk father and distant mother. Being the oldest, Pattyn holds the role of being the primary care giver since her mother fails to do so. As a teenage girl, she is faced with many challenges, especially since her Mormon community has something to say about every move she makes. Throughout Burned, Ellen Hopkins was able to show a teenage girl’s thought process on abuse, faith, and the ability to love.
Frank Ocean once said, “When you 're happy, you enjoy the music. But when you 're sad, you understand the lyrics.” Why does one have to be sad to “understand the lyrics”? Evaluating a song and being given the ability to relate enhances one’s respect for the composer. For example, when one first listens to “Danny’s Song” by Kenny Loggins, they probably believe the song is about love, however, once a person analyzes the lyrics the realize that the song is actually a story of a couple who are having a baby boy.
Most of us are lucky enough to have a home. A place one can come to, and find those close to us. We often take this for granted, and stay blissfully unaware of how fortunate we are. Jeannette Walls’ life has been far from easy. From the day she was born, she and her family had combated constant forces of turbulence and order.
The lyrics symbolize how she loved her boyfriend more than he loved her. Swift provides pride in the relationship, while her boyfriend remains unwilling to. She continues to demonstrate the red flag by using apostrophe by singing to the audience, “he’s gonna say it’s love.” (Swift 2021) to directly singing to her ex-boyfriend, “...you never called it what it was…,” (Swift 2021) criticizing him out for never taking the relationship seriously and sincerely as she did. Throughout her song, Swift uses rhetorical appeals of pathos to invoke the emotions she felt through her relationship with her ex-boyfriend and allow listeners to relate to her.
Long story short: she’s late for her trip, she gets in a big argument with her boyfriend, and she starts falling for another guy. As you can probably tell already, the theme of the book is relationships. The first quote that relates to the theme of relationships is, “I don’t know why, but I don’t want Derrick to know that Beckett drove me here. Not that Derrick would care. Derrick is not the type of guy who gets jealous.
In the song she states, “ Aint no fathers where I’m from, just mad mothers”. This helps the focus of the album by illustrating the kind of place she lives, and how her father could be non-present for several reason like, he could be in jail or even dead, because in places like where she lives it is a common thing, Pasain later on goes to explain that the males that she does know are not great father figures because in a line of the song she states “ Why am I being disrespected by someone I should call brother?” Another line she states while singing this song is “ And why girls feel unpretty and constantly hate each other”. Which is disheartening because basically you get the feeling of a 16 year old girl going through life by herself, she already stated the mothers are “mad” the fathers are gone and the other males figures treat her like an object and disrespect her, and the girls she
Being torn between two lives results in her never feeling like she belongs anywhere. She just feels like a visitor. “What wasn’t working? Our
In a society where songs with meaningless lyrics and repeated phrases gathers the most publicity, it is surprising to find songs that exhibit meaningful lyrics and thoughts. Unlike most hip-hop songs that contain useless repeated lyrics, Kanye West’s 2008 hit “Heartless” contains lyrics full of meaning. After producing this song, he was starting to approach the zenith of his career. This song became an instant hit for not only its soothing beats or sounds, but for its impactful lyrics that take the listener multiple attempts to really understand. This song tells the story of a tragic breakup between two individuals that cannot seem to get along.
She felt “light and good in the warm sun” (L8). To her young and inexperienced mind, “nothing existed for her but her song,” (L8) which just goes to show how oblivious and careless she is to her surroundings and worlds greater than her own. On the contrary, as she made her way a “mile or more from home,” (L23) she began to hit a turning point. The comfortable world at which she knew is now cracked open and unguarded.
He shows to her that he still cares deeply about her and she can change back, it’s not too late. At the end of the song the first three lines, “Girl, I’m glad you called, first heard you talk/ took me a second cause I couldn’t hear/ your drawl”, are repeated. The repetition of this line magnifies the change within his friend, the adaptation so large that her voice is completely different. After a long separation, the bond between these once best friends is only something of the past. It only takes one person to influence the change within another, no matter where they come from or who they grow up
Through Garnet’s struggles and success of finding his real home, Richard Wagamese outlines the importance of people having a home.
Communication is a necessity to interact with others, but what some people don’t realize is that without communication we would be missing most media and entertainment. Communication is seen in everything we do and watch for example: movies, television, art, and music. The skills of communication are easily used to convey emotions and ideas to broad audiences. The Beatles are arguably the most popular band of the 20th century and their chart toppers conveyed various topics through song. An analysis of The Beatles’ song Yesterday reveals some of the communication skills used: relatability, intrapersonal communication, and self-feedback.
Frequently, we just pass by people and look down on them since they have no home; but who is to say they don’t have a home? Home is not the house you live in or the country you belong to. It is a place that incites certain feelings and those feeling are what makes a place home. The people on the streets with no “home” may simply find that anywhere in the world is where they call home. Home has two specific set of values that make it more than just a place which are privacy, and safety.
In the song, Tupac details his childhood poverty and his mother's addiction to crack cocaine but argues that his love and deep respect for his mother supersede bad memories. Tupac saw the urban decay all around him, not only in the buildings but also in the social norms and values he saw his people trending towards. Tupac wanted to change the world but died to do so. This song gives me the chills because it reminds me how I take things for granted. We should always thank and appreciate the ones who take care of us before it is too
In some parts he also uses ironic phrases to help visualize the description being made. Tone shifts when the woman singer comes in
