Jake Green As I walk in, I observe, a line of eleven people that are between the ages of 13 and 24. I smell the zesty guacamole and the cumin, garlic, and chipotle chile of the barbacoa. Behind the stainless steel counter, servers in black and tortilla colored aprons prep burritos, tacos and salads. I hear the cracking flow of drinks coming down from a fountain and the crackling of tortilla chips. Yes, I thought to myself, I have arrived at Chipotle. In 1993, Steve Ells, a former sous chef at Stars in San Francisco, opened the first Chipotle at the University of Denver in Colorado. Chipotle’s mission was to give a customer fast food that was good, quick, and contained no chemicals or pesticides. The “fast food restaurant” took off and within 2 years, another Chipotle had been constructed. Then in 1998, McDonalds invested $360 million into Chipotle, allowing it to expand rapidly. The Chipotle Mexican Grill experience is an introduction to fast food 2.0, a new version of chain eateries that focus on quick, fresh, and hip food for us young people. Focusing on fresh ingredients, Chipotle’s ingredients are organic and their meat is not contaminated with chemicals, unlike most other fast food chains. When I step up to the counter, I notice a refrigerator filled with drinks. With a full liquor license, Chipotle also …show more content…
I cut into it with a plastic knife. Cheese oozed from the quesadilla part of it, while rice and beans fell out of the center of it. I had to cut it up so much that it looked more like a maki roll than a burrito. I gingerly bit in to one of these pieces and instantly, my view of Mexican food changed. The first thing that hit me was the cheese. It was hot and cold at the same time because the cheese hit my tongue hot, but I swallowed it cold. Just like rings in a tree, I could see the rings of meat, rice and beans. It left me wanting more, even though I was
Remember Jared Fogle. He lost weight on the Subway diet and cashed in big with a TV contract. A few years went by, and a clever young woman named Christine Dougherty wrote a letter to Taco Bell with her story about losing 54 pounds on her Taco Bell Drive-Thru Diet. Before you can say "nachos del grande" she's all over TV showing off her svelte body, the result, we are supposed to infer, of the young woman replacing her higher fat and calorie tacos and burritos with the "Mexican" fast food chain's slimmed down Fresco Menu versions. What's next?
Los Besitos open its doors to business a year ago, but it has already become a favorite with locals. The cozy restaurant located on Grant Avenue, specialized in Mexican food and features cuisines from Mexico 's distinctive regions. On my most enjoyable night there, the chef were offering cuisine from several of Mexico 's southern coastal regions. I have beg the owners for the tomato broth recipe, which is the foundation of the tortilla soup, but they say it 's a secret family recipe. The prices are reasonable, but the small dining roo got crowded on weekend nights.
The dedication, devotion, time, and loyalty Chipotle takes to provide its customers with top quality nutritious ingredients every day is praiseworthy. Even though supply-demand has often occurred resulting into unavailability of locally grown products, Chipotle has managed and continues providing a dish filled with top quality nutritious ingredients. As a result, competitors have never taken a strong position or any initiatives in providing customers with the best quality. One of the other strength of Chipotle is that it not only offers speedy and convivial service but it also provides a lively, restaurant ambiance. Also, another strength of Chipotle is its focused menu with an option to customize as per the customers’ liking, requires minimal employee training, enhances cross-training, escalates productivity, and increases
Taco Bell Satire Taco Bell is a fast-food restaurant with a passion for offering good food to its clientele (Taco Bell). Such a claim may lead one to conclude that he can make arrangements for an intimate dinner for four, without inviting the other three guests. After going through Taco's Website, one realizes that the food there is magical. The company uses words such as "bold food, food that ignites passion, food you want to talk about", very generously. Also, the restaurant boasts of taking as little as little as possible from the environment.
They take the tortillas out and put the ingredients inside along with a little cheddar cheese. Then, they roll the enchiladas and place them upon a cookie sheet. The steps are repeated until the cookie sheet is filled with enchiladas.
Have you ever had a desperate craving for something, but couldn’t quite put your finger on what you wanted? For me this happens every once in awhile, and there’s one delicious food that I can always rely on to satisfy my hunger. When I’m as hungry as a horse, I turn to this amazingly appetizing dish. I turn to the burrito, which is like a ray of sunshine in my mouth. I began my journey by getting out the tortillas.
Que Vivan Los Tamales analyses the history of Mexico's evolving national identity via food. Mexican cuisine has changed dramatically from the the era of the aztecs, to the period of Spanish colonialism through to the Porfiriato dictatorship. Through these periods we we see food being used in a manner to unify the nation and create a national united identity. Below I will argue how the country attempted to unify its people though cuisine. When the Spanish conquered Mexico, they tried to impose old world techniques and spices onto the Mexicans.
Chipotle is in the fast casual industry where competition is extremely intense since there are so many different dining options. An industry like fast casual restaurants has a very high growth rate therefore there is not just one company that has the market cornered. What sets the restaurants apart is not cost but product differentiation; they position themselves in the market with their slogan of Food with Integrity. Since restaurants in the fast casual industry are priced fairly in the same range Chipotle uses different product features to set themselves apart from the others (parature.com). The first value driver in Chipotle’s differentiation strategy is the product quality; they utilize local farmers who are conscience of the environment.
Chipotle is a very successful fast food restaurant business within the domestic boards of the United States; therefore it would seem like the next step would be to expand the business internationally. There are many opportunities to be enjoyed by expanding Chipotle into the international market, however there are also many challenges that need to be considered before this decision is made. Some of the great opportunities Chipotle has the ability to achieve when expanding internationally are things such as increased profits, well recognized brand name, and growth. The strongest motivator for a business to expand is the idea that more Chipotle restaurants equal more profits. This idea can be found valid if the expansion into foreign markets
In my original response to what I knew about Mexican food, I was able to identify food items that are of popular thought when thinking about Mexican food. I named tortillas, enchiladas, refried and black beans, rice, cheese, picante sauces, burritos, tacos, batidas and freshly made fruit juices as being the dishes that first come to mind. After reading all about the origins of Mexican food I don’t think I was too far off, but I did not consider how important the tortilla was to Mexico’s history and its people. The tortilla is a big part of some of the dishes I named yet I was unaware of just how resilient the tortilla is as a staple of Mexican cuisine. It also came to me as a surprise that chocolate, something that we associate in modern times with European countries such as Switzerland and famous brands like Godiva, actually derived from the native peoples of Mexico.
