The Battle/Siege of Vicksburg The Battle of Vicksburg was one of the most crucial points in the Civil War. It helped Eradicate the Rebels/Confederacy once and for all. The Civil War was fought for over 4 years and it lasted from 1861-1865. It was one of the most horrific wars the world has ever known and witnessed.

Masur’s book, The civil War: a Concise History, Is a book that gives an overview of the civil war from 18 to 1800, Providing multiple causes an consequences that emerged from the war. The book begins by reviewing the origins of the war. Chapter one covers the issues between northern and southern states and the tension over right and slave possession. The tension created a conflict that raised a number of political, social, and military events that then proceeded into a battle to abolish slavery from the colonies.

A brilliant engineer and highly capable organizer was George B. McClellan, He also was a commander of the war. George B. McClellan is often remembered as the great organizer of the Union Army of the Potomac. He helped construct railroads for the military early on before all of his fame came upon, he also was ranked 2nd in a class of 59 in his Military academy, along side with 20 others who would become full rank generals during the Civil War.   He was very successful during his command in war, just many people thought he was bait cautious at times which ultimately led to him being let off.

In 1852, he was sent to Fort Vancouver, in what is now Washington State. In 1853, Grant was promoted to captain and shipped to Fort Humboldt on the Northern California coast, where he had a run-in with the fort's officer, Lieutenant Colonel

Grant attended local schools until the age of 17, when his father enrolled him in the United States Military Academy at West Point because he no longer enjoyed working in the family business. While he was being enrolled, he was accidentally registered as Ulysses S. Grant and he decided to keep this name, rather than be denied by the school. Grant also was educated from a young age. But his passion In his youth, Grant developed a special ability to ride, work with, and control horses. Grant too attended west point. Grant was not a distinguished student as he graduated in the middle of his military class. This would lead to grant to serving as a quartermaster rather than to the cavalry because of his graduating spot from west point.

Grant was a very prominent figure of the time period and led the Union to victory and helped heal the fractured United States afterward. General Grant began his military career at West Point when he was just sixteen. He was top of his class and when he graduated, he began his four years of service and went into combat in the Mexican-American War. He was promoted to captain as a result of his bravery during the war. After this, his four-year commitment to the army was up, he left and did not expect to come back.

Buchanan spent a lot of time spreading rumours of Grant’s drinking to try and destroy Grant’s career. Eventually, because of the malicious rumors Grant resigned from the army and tried to work several different jobs. In the end his job did not work out so when the Civil War broke out he rejoined the Union Army. Grant’s alcoholism was an attribute that actually made him a better leader.

He overcame many obstacles including poverty, failure, and humiliation but with that also came riches, triumph, and glorification. Ulysses S.
