Coming from a hall of fame wrestler to one of the most influential presidents in history(Abraham Lincoln - U.S. Presidents - H...). African American growing up during segregation and becoming the man that stopped segregation. Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln are two of the most important people of the millenium. They both came from poverty to some of the most important people in history(Abraham Lincoln - U.S. Presidents - H...; Ball 2006). Abraham Lincoln grew up in a log cabin In a small County, Kentucky. He went to a simple school called a blab school( a school that just taught basics like math reading and speaking.) He never went to college or graduated high school. He had many jobs such as a boatman, store clerk, surveyor, soldier in the militias, a lawyer and illinois state legislature, and then his most important elected the 16 president in 1860 #2. King and Lincoln also have many differences. Such as Lincoln religion is a mystery Whereas King was a devout christian(Lincoln's Religion ).Also Lincoln had many jobs whereas King only had two jobs(abe lincoln History). Also Lincoln took the fight against slavery in a violent way as King took the fight for equality in a peaceful way(martin luther king junior ). Another way they are different is that King had a full family that took care of him lincoln didn't have a father. Also Lincoln grew up in County, Kentucky, while King grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Also King felt the abuse of African Americans first hand. Being black at that time King had been hurt abused, been called awful names and even his house being physically attacked. Whereas Lincoln was a white male who had been in a powerful position and had not felt the first hand abuse of African americans. They were also amazing leaders but in different time periods. Lincoln lead in the mid to late 1800’s, while king lead during the mid 1900’s. King was assassinated by James Earl Ray#8. Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes
One thing I would like to compare about these two very inspirational African Americans would be there sense of genuineness. Jesse Jackson talks about in his speech how he does not care who you are, what color you are, or who you love. He wanted to just help the people in need. He wanted to help the poor, the gays, and the colored. He wanted peace, and for people to all have insurance, while not being treated differently for not making as much money, being colored, or being gay.
Martin and King faced a difficult decision: to leave and fight for their freedom. The type of freedom each man fought for was influenced greatly by their race. Martin was a white man, who fought for Patriot freedom from British control. King was an African-American, who journeyed to secure his freedom from slavery. They were on separate sides of the battlefield.
King and Caesar had similarities and differences. King was a leader of the colored and led a civil rights movement, for which he was assassinated for. Even though we do not know the specific reason for King’s assassination, it is fair to say that the unknown assassin did not believe in what King was fighting for. In the 1960s, the people did not heed about the colored people, whether they were lying on a street dead, or anything else. “Outside, people kept walking past the body on the street” (Breslin).
Both Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr were civil right leaders who were well respected for their ideas. However, they had differences that would impact the success of their initiatives. Malcolm X had superior solutions for a strong centralized black community and a stable black economy, while King’s ideas made more sense in terms of his nonviolent philosophy and push for an integrated education system. Whiles Martin Luther King, Jr’s idea about blacks and whites together would work in a perfect society,America was far from a perfect society in the 1960s.
Lincoln was also inspirational, he inspired people, mainly with his political protest and well known speeches. Abraham Lincoln's assassination was unjustified because he began the process to end slavery, helped people get equal rights, and stopped our nation from splitting apart; although southern Sympathizers hated and disagreed with his decisions. Abraham Lincoln was an abolitionist. His hatred
Civil Rights Compare and Contrast In the early 1960’s Martin Luther King Jr. and George Wallace both gave speeches on civil and equal rights, and segregation issues going on at that time. Martin Luther King Jr wanted segregation to end.
Frederick Douglas and Booker T. Washington worked both hard to help their race, but had a variety of similar and differing experiences. They both were born slaves, well known speakers, and writers. These great men and a large and positive impact on
Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass are American heroes with each exemplifying a unique aspect of the American spirit. In his recent study, "The Radical and the Republican: Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, and the Triumph of Antislavery Politics" (2007), Professor James Oakes traces the intersecting careers of both men, pointing out their initial differences and how their goals and visions ultimately converged. Oakes is Graduate School Humanities Professor and Professor of History at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He has written extensively on the history of slavery in the Old South. Oakes reminds the reader of how much Lincoln and Douglass originally shared.
Eventually, he got his education and his freedom and escaped the slave trade, after having suffered repeatedly at the hands of his ‘owners’. Dr. King on the other hand was born in in 1929, a time when the slaves had been emancipated, slavery had ‘officially’ been ended, but the bias and segregation still hadn’t been wiped out
Both politicians had significant impacts on their countries. Julius Caesar was considered one of the greatest emperors of Rome and Abraham Lincoln is still considered one of the best presidents of United States. They both were involved with civil wars in the lands they controlled. After the Gallic wars Caesar came to power because of his support of reforms for the common people. Abraham Lincoln was also a politician for several years before becoming president because of his support for the American slaves and the abolition of slavery.
King and Trump don't have much in common, but they do have one thing in common that is there both leaders. King has done so much for his people, he had done everything in his power to stop discrimination. Martin Luther King Jr. had many big achievement to stop discrimination in the United States. Throughout the 1950 and 1960s Martin Luther King Jr. was a great activist and a known civil rights leader, who had a big impact on the American Society. King’s main goal was to have racial equality and equal
Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X are two profound African American figures in history. They both fought for equality and to better humanity. But, the tactics they used were very different. Their different views may have been rooted from the where they were raised. Martin Luther King Jr. grew up in a middle class family and received a very solid education.
Malcolm X and Martin Luther King were both important and impactful leaders during the Civil Rights Movement who made a change for black people in the nation today. Due to the efforts of both leaders, the nation today consists free of
The differences in the documents outweigh the similarities in the rest of the ways that they speak to the audience. An example is when King said “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” King is establishing that there is a enemy of justice in America but he doesn’t
Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. were both born 120 years apart. They were also killed ten days apart in the same month, years apart of course. Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. were one of the biggest influences on Slavery and Civil Rights. As well as being great leaders during their times. Both of these men were similar, but also had their differences.
