Isabella Talamantez Ms. Tobias English III- 6th 12 January 2017 The Great Gatsby, Compared and Contrasted The Great Gatsby is a popular book written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in the 1920s. Much later it was adapted into a movie that is a topic of debate because of its similarities and differences. While they both have the same storyline of a poor farmer’s son rising to riches with the aspiration of getting his dream girl, the book and movie have variations concerning details such as the materialistics and relationships. The book and movie have major similarities like their names and ages, but besides the obvious you can really get down to details. A point of similarity is the characterization of Tom and George Wilson. With Tom he is …show more content…
The actor gives Tom qualities that represent hostile behavior like how he speaks to Daisy, Nick, and even Gatsby. With George Wilson he is is characterized as a sad and hopeless man in both the book and movie. “ He was a blond, spiritless man ...and faintly handsome.” (Fitzgerald 25), this quote from the book proves that he was unstable and had no hope after Myrtle, his wife, died. This is true in the book and movie because he kills Gatsby and I believe he wouldn't have done this if he was stable and optimistic. In the movie, the actor portrays George’s attitude as sad and resentful towards Gatsby because he believes that he is the one who killed Myrtle. It is apparent with his crying and his urgency to find Gatsby in order to gain revenge. Another point of similarity is the behavior of Nick in the hotel in New York City. Tom asks Nick to accompany him to the hotel so that he may rendezvous with his mistress Myrtle, and Nick may meet her cousin. In the book and movie Nick’s character is portrayed as responsible and certainly the opposite of the others in the story but, at
Emma, written by Jane Austen, ignites many ideas for the movie Clueless, directed by Amy Hecklering. These two classics show many similarities and differences. Many characters from the book Emma, resemble characters from the movie, almost “as if” the movie was loosely based on the novel. Although differences include time eras and clothing styles, many similarities exist including: both main characters living with their dads because of the loss of their mothers, their great wealth, and the dominant roles they play in their communities.
Gatsby’s Accountability For His Murder Gatsby is a man whose actions lead to his own death. While some say that Tom or Daisy were responsible for Gatsby's death, Gatsby was the only one that should be held responsible. We can't control others, and unfortunately for Gatsby, we can't control time either, but we can control ourselves and our attitude and behavior. While other characters cannot control their temper and emotions, based on the fact that they express whatever they feel and ignore obvious problems, Gatsby's actions made the largest impact on why he was killed.
In our world it is hard to indicate whether it is genuine when an individual is treated in a kind matter or being deceived in order to get exploited for something in one’s possession. It is quite unfortunate that in this world, homo sapiens use a gift such as kindness in order to deceive and get whatever they desire, instead of being genuinely kind to one another. A person should not have to doubt the truthfulness behind someone’s kindness towards them. The readers of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby experience this false goodness and deception, through the false belief that Jay Gatsby is a kind hearted soul, with a pure and white soul; Contrary to that false belief, Gatsby is in truth, foolish, pathetic and a man who repeatedly sin and prove he is not

Jealousy is the root of a lot problems this is the case with F. Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby. In this book we will talk about how jealousy is the main factor in this topic. Consequently proving how jealous Tom Buchanan is when he is surrounded Jay Gatsby.
The Great Gatsby is an American novel written by Scott Fitzgerald. On the surface, the book revolves around the concept of romance, the love between two individuals. However, the novel incorporates less of a romantic scope and rather focuses on the theme of the American Dream in the 1920s. Fitzgerald depicts the 1920’s as an era of decline in moral values. The strong desire for luxurious pleasure and money ultimately corrupts the American dream which was originally about individualism.
The Great Gatsby is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and narrated by a man named Nick Carraway. This novel was written with the intent of showing the readers how morally corrupt the 1920s were. Throughout the novel, characters abandon their moral values for a materialistic lifestyle. The novel depicts a great picture of the roles men and women played in the 1920s. Even with the changing roles of men and women, they continued to rely heavily on whom they were married to and what social class they belonged to.

Characters throughout The Great Gatsby present themselves with mysterious and questionable morals. Affairs, dishonest morals, criminal professions, weak boundaries and hypocritical views are all examples of immorality portrayed in The Great Gatsby. In F. The Great Gatsby is an iconic piece of American literature encompassing the 1920s era in American history. This story was written in 1923 by F. Scott Fitzgerald and was later adapted into a movie in 1949, 1973, 2000, and then once again in 2013. In the 2000 version of the movie the plot line was very similar to the book with only a few major differences and a few discreet ones as well. The movie however, also followed the book very well and even used direct quotes from the book helping you to understand the point Fitzgerald was trying to make. Markowitz the director made many good decisions in this adaptation as well as a few costly mistakes that made the importance of the book and plot line of Fitzgerald’s book.
Casandra Salazar Ms. Tobias English III GT 12 January 2017 The Great Gatsby After reading and watching The Great Gatsby, I gathered the dissemblance and alikeness in both the book and motion picture. As written in “The Great Gatsby”, the first example of similarity is that the book has the same theme to the “Roaring 20’s”. In the written book, Fitzgerald described the parties as huge and dramatic, where as in the movie, the directors did a fantastic job translating Fitzgerald’s words into a lavish visual spectacle of booze, sequins, and confetti.
In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby, there are many important characters, some alike and some different. Two characters who are both different and alike at the same time are Tom Buchanan and George Wilson. Fitzgerald gives the reader a lot of information about how Tom and George are very different from each other. One can interpret many different things that Fitzgerald may be trying to convey about the nature of men. Based on how he portrays Tom and George’s actions it helps to show the true nature of men.
Gatsby later tries to reconnect with Daisy, much to the dismay of Tom. Fitzgerald utilizes the characters of Gatsby and Tom to create parallels and highlight certain characteristics in both men. Tom and Gatsby are similar in that they both are very wealthy and love Daisy, each in their own way. While they share this similarity, there are a myriad of differences between the two. Tom is a racist, is part of the old money society, and does not face judgement for his actions.
In Search of Human Morality Although the past is generally portrayed as a recollection of mistakes, regrets and unfond memories, it does not define one’s self identity. This plot is explained in vivid detail in both novels The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is a coming of age novel of an uncommon bond between two unlikely friends who separate due to the increasing religious and political tension in Afghanistan 's years of corruption. After several years, Amir, the protagonist, receives a call and a familiar voice reminds his that there is a way to be good again. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald bases in Long Island, New York in the Nineteenth Twenties where
