He first tries to get at the reader's emotions by bringing up the Tragedy at Newtown throughout the article. Most people know that when they see Sandy Hook or Tragedy at Newtown they first thinks about the children that died at an elementary school from a school shooter. He tells the reader about the law that was up for a vote that would allow teachers to carry guns with more training, but ends that sentence with “It was approved the day before the shootings in Newtown” (cnn). Not only does he bring up Newtown, but brings up the Colorado theater shooting that happened. He states a quote from the Colorado governor in which he basically says that he was surprised that with all the people in the theater that no one had a conceal and carry and could have stopped the shooter.

One Gun + One Bullet = Death among Millions Violence in the world can be described as a violent trend that will continue to become more violent with each new passing generation. The argument is that guns are the reason for violence in today’s society and it begins with just the simple purchase of one gun. As a result, this shows the author is comparing gun laws laws and the ability to own gun and carry them in the U.S. with other “rich nations” around the world.

The Sandy Hook shooting was the second most deadly shooting in the U.S and left many families damaged after this unimaginable event took place. The students and teachers that went under the shooting were only focused on surviving through a horrific event and wondering if they would ever see their families again. First graders witnessed their friends in the next room being massacred, and unthinkable image. This event left the nation in a scare, causing everyone to look at gun and going to school a different way. Shooter and murderer Adam Lanza took the lives of many containing 30.47 pounds of ammunition.

The article helps bring in a different perspective on why gun control would benefit

Kristof’s use of logos is strong due to the amount of facts and statistics he offers to his audience, but he fails to strongly use pathos and ethos, due to the lack of these elements Kristof’s argument is weakened.

While Novak does not necessarily appear to support any side of the gun control argument, he does imply that Republicans have largely derailed efforts to enforce the law regarding gun violence cases. The writer’s main purpose for writing the article is to show that there is a different way of looking at the gun control debate and to also show the wrongs, in his opinion, that are committed by the interested parties in this debate. The fight for gun control has been a never-ending battle in recent years amongst the Republican and Democratic Party. How the media portrays gun control has a lot to do with how people view guns and the gun laws at hand; for example, CNN and Fox news are best known for having completely different views and reporting styles. In a CNN article titled “NRA chief accuses Democrats of pushing ‘socialist’ agenda in the wake of the Florida shooting” written by Lauren Fox it discusses the tension between the NRA and Democrats when it comes to gun control. Gun control reform is needed to safeguard children and prevent access to those with mental illness and a criminal background.
