The power of stories manifests itself in literature, film, and more generally life. Stories inspire, provide hope, and bring understanding. Leslie Marmon Silko’s novel Ceremony permeates the strength of stories. Ceremony follows the story of Tayo, a half white Native American plagued by the invasion of European culture, as well as his own past of war and loss. However, through the folk stories of his Laguna culture, as well as the advice he has been given to embrace his past, Tayo is able to see the world more clearly.

In her novel “My Antonia,” Willa Cather shows the impact the Hired Girls have on Jim is the way they offer him a nostalgic connection to his past by using the works of Virgil, and from this connection Jim is able to reach deep intellectual and personal understanding. When two people from vastly different walks of life cross paths, they are bound to learn a lot from each other. My Ántonia by Willa Cather is set in Nebraska in the late 1800s and tells the story of the relationship between a Bohemian immigrant, Ántonia Shimerda, and an American boy, Jim Burden. In the beginning of their relationship, Jim teaches Ántonia English as requested by Mr. Shimerda. However, Jim learns more through their relationship because Ántonia inadvertently teaches him things he would not have learned otherwise.

Comparison Book Vs Film The film “Macbeth” by roman Polanski is not alike the book “Macbeth“. The movie produced by Roman Polanski in 1979 does not follow the book version entirely. Parts of the characters’ actions in the film version are not spelled out in the print version of the play. Also some depictions of the scenes in the film are not well structured.

In addition, the authors walk through the process of how they came to find the story of Adina, how it was processed and accurately turned into a novel, and what difficulties can arise from documenting history correctly. If one was not living in the late 1800’s as an important business man, it was unlikely that their story would ever be shared. People without meaning had a hard time having a voice. All the man in her life died, which affected her deeply and writing was the thing that helped her keep going. Susan Glaspell on the other hand, was the author of “A Jury of Her Peers,” who at the time rebelled against society’s expectations. Both women a the time were trying to address the issue that women were being thought as inferiors by man and were also mistreated. In the two stories there was irony, women were being viewed as inferior by the man, and the role of a women was the same in both stories.

Set in nineteenth century Black Hawk, Nebraska, Willa Cather’s novel My Antonia is the tragic, yet hope-filled memoir of Bohemian immigrant, Antonia Shimerda, as recounted through the memories of her childhood friend, Jim Burden. Arriving in Nebraska with her family, Antonia’s life is hopeful. However, the infertile prairie land disheartens her father causing him to take his life.

Despite the title of the book, “My Antonia” is very much centered on Jim Burden. The story begins with an outlook on Jim’s adult life, and we are then catapulted into his Nebraskan childhood. As the book progresses, we witness the mental and emotional development of Jim as he has new experiences and meets numerous people. The book then concludes with Jim again as an adult. As a reader, I have observed him complete a cycle (going from point a, to point b and arriving at point a again).

Authors, especially female authors, have long used their writing to emphasize and analyze the feminist issues that characterize society, both in the past and the present. Kate Chopin, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and Susan Glaspell wrote narratives that best examined feminist movements through the unreliable minds of their characters. In all three stories, “The Story of an Hour”, “The Yellow Wallpaper”, and “A Jury of Her Peers”, the authors use characterization, symbolism, and foreshadowing to describe the characters’ apparent psychosis or unreasonable behavior to shed light on the social issues that characterized the late 19th century and early 20th century. “The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown” (H. P. Lovecraft). In Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird and Shakespeare’s Macbeth, many characters are shown to be primarily driven by this emotion. Characters such as Mayella Ewell in To Kill A Mockingbird or Malcolm and Donalbain in Macbeth are shown to act drastically because of fear. Actions such as Macbeth killing Banquo in fear of being exposed or Mayella accusing an innocent man, display how humans are primarily driven by fear.

In many stories evil triumphs but never concurs. In the novel of to kill a mocking bird from Harper lee, evil is triumphed by ignorance and racism. How ever in the novel of Macbeth from William shake spear, evil is triumphed by greed, jealousy and ambition. Both have their own scenario and we will compare how both protagonists for both novel fight the evil that triumphs in their life’s. for the novel ‘Macbeth’ the protagonist is Macbeth and the protagonist for ‘To kill a mocking bird’ is Atticus both will be compared on how big of an impact was created by their decision and how they face evil.
