A famous actor Christopher Reeve once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Being heroic does not always mean you’re special or well known. Since a hero shows determination, it drives them to help others and go beyond what’s expected of them. Heroes are people who go beyond expectations. For example, Tristan Segers said, “Of course the loss of a leg changed me, but it doesn’t define me or the rest of my life.”(SB 59) Meaning just because he has a physical disability doesn’t mean that he can’t do anything or help anyone. In addition, Rosa Parks did what was necessary when no one stood up to do it. Parks stood up for slavery by sitting in the white people part of a segregated bus. Both of these heroes show that it doesn’t take a lot of work to help others. …show more content…
Most heroes are determined and courageous. Frederick Douglass once said, “I remained firm...reaching new york without any interruption(SB 71).” Which meant that he was determined to spread the word to the world about slavery and no one could stop him from doing so. Also, another hero Odysseus showed determination and courage when he blinded the cyclops to get out of the cave. “We took the red hot stake and twisted it round and round like that in his eye(SB 33).” All heroes show some special qualities but it’s the determination that makes them a true
Through their actions they inspire others to have these same traits. One thing that sets heroes apart from average people is courage. Courage, the ability to endure fear or pain with strength. One of the most difficult things Fredrick Douglass had to do was escape slavery he felt,”The intense desires, now felt, to be free, quickened my present favorable circumstances, brought me to the determination to act as well as to think and speak.” (Douglass 95).
During ancient Greek times, heroes were considered people who did something extremely epic and courageous, such as the journey of Odysseus. In today’s day and age, anyone can be a hero. Martin Luther King Jr may not have defeated real life monsters and fought an epic battle, but he did go on journey to reach his goal of living in a world where all people are equal. Both Odysseus, from The Odyssey by Homer, and Martin Luther King Jr, a civil rights activist, go on similar journeys of a hero to achieve their own goals. They each must defeat different monsters, both literally and figuratively, in order to obtain their goals.
Heroes put others before themselves and will do anything to ensure that thing’s safety. Many people have either risked their lives or have loss their lives due to trying to save others. An example of this would be the man in the red bandana or Welles Crowther. Crowther was working in the twin towers as planes were crashing into them. Crowther could have ran away from the other people when the planes hit, but he chose not to spare himself, but to save others and sacrifice his own life.
Heros’ come in many shapes and forms. Tall, short, small, big, anyone can be a hero, they just have to put in the effort. Though anyone can be a good hero, a great hero is somebody who inspires others, makes a difference, and is selfless. First and foremost, a great hero must be someone who inspires others. Ida B. Wells is an example of a true hero.
A hero is someone who puts the needs of others before their own and works towards a greater
As stated by Arthur Ashe “True heroism is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.” To be a hero one does not need to wear a cape and defend against injustice. Rather all that must be done is to fight for the greater good. Heroes do not fear failure; they approach each situation with a goal and strive to achieve that goal. A true hero may not always succeed but has the bravery to stand up and fight for what is right.
American actor Christopher Reeve once quoted, "A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles" (Brainy Quote). Not only did he play a hero as Superman, he truly became one in his personal life. After becoming a quadriplegic Reeve became a spokesperson for people with spinal cord injuries. A hero is a person one admires because of the qualities and selfless actions they exemplify to overcome adversity and inspire others. Heroism is apparent in literature, history, and in our own life.
That is not the only way to have heroism if a person stands up for what they believe in, that is considered heroism too. Heroes sacrifice themselves for the better and stand up for what they believe in, they are determined and firm, and they have courage and fortitude. In the Great Depression era, people had a hard time finding jobs
Because they ignored death and continued in their mission they have already done something many wouldn’t, and because they were doing this for others, it proves the claim that anyone can be a hero if they do things that most wouldn’t for others. Additionally, heroes exist in literature, and typically in literature, a hero’s deeds are larger than life. An example of this would be Odysseus from The Odyssey. The Odyssey is a Greek epic about Odysseus, who is a man separated from his family for a very long time and has many arduous challenges that impede his journey home. One of these challenges had Odysseus venture to the underworld to meet the shade Teiresias, who tells him, “Under strange sail you come home, to find your own home filled with trouble: insolent men eating your livestock and courting your lady (Homer 11.
The courage a hero shows surpasses everyone in the normal range. Not only are they courageous but also very noble. A noble
Anyone can be a hero. For instance, Robert Bentz was being selfless when he put himself between a driver of a stolen car and Bentz’ son. “In the split second of seeing the car coming straight at [his son] Roudy, Bentz cranked his steering wheel as hard as possible. That put him between the oncoming car and his son.” Though Bentz is a normal person, he was still able to save his son from injury.
Bill Murphy says five characteristics of a hero are courage, selflessness, humility, patience, and caring. Murphy gives examples of “Incredibly Heroic Leaders”. The person Murphy used for the word courage was Marine Cpl. Kyle Carpenter. Murphy explains how
Giles and John were courageous and accepted their fates. Abigail was courageous in her own way when she stabbed herself with a needle to get Elizabeth arrested. There are many people in the world who portray heroic traits such as courage in their everyday life. A hero doesn’t necessarily have to have superpowers. What trait do you believe makes
A hero is a person who overcomes their fears to fight for what is right. A person who fights for change. Heroes are everywhere. Heroes can be anyone. Every hero is a unique person with feelings and families.
Heroes, people say don't be them, because it risks your life and it is not worth it, you don’t get paid, you don’t get powers, you're just you by the end of the day and do something some people call dumb. But being a hero is not just Rafael at a fair to become one, to be one is to do what’s right even when everyone is not. Do it for the better of life, not for glory, but for anything that drives you to keep going. All heroes are different, but also the heroes come from the same roots about how they do what they do. We are going to dig deep into that reason why soon.
