What Are The Similarities Between Lincoln And Julius Caesar

There were many factors contributing to this uncertainty, one of them being his support of emancipation for slaves. Half of the democrats were extremely dead-set on ending the war with a peace treaty, and the other half wanted to continue the fight ("The Election of 1864").

IntroductionThis paper will cover certain aspects of the lives of Abraham Lincoln and Julius Caesar. The reason I have chosen to compare Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln is because they were both rulers of a country. Both were leaders that taught great lessons that are still being applied to this day. Julius ruled Rome and single handedly expanded the Roman empire by twice its size. President Lincoln, at a minimum, facilitated the start of the great civil war that ended freeing innocent enslaved man.

Abraham Lincoln often seemed to contradict himself on the subject of slavery. This was most often the case during his campaigns for office. The campaign for Senate that put him in the national spotlight ended in a loss perhaps in part due to his opponent, a pro-slavery states’ rights advocate by the name of Stephen Douglas, bringing attention to these contradictions. Illinois was divided on the issue of slavery in 1858. Northern Illinois had a large abolitionist movement while the southern half of the state had a majority that supported slavery.

He had very little traditional education, but read a lot when not working on his father 's farm. After moving away from home, Lincoln co-owned a general store for a couple of years before selling his stake and enlisting as a militia captain defending Illinois in the Black Hawk War of 1832, when he was 19, he followed a produce-laden flatboat down the Mississippi River to New Orleans. After settling in the town of New Salem, Illinois he worked as a shopkeeper and a owner of a post office. Lincoln became involved in local politics as a supporter of the Whig Party, he won the election to the Illinois state legislature in 1834. The Whig Party was a political party active in the middle of the 19th century in the United States of America.

Even though he did not get elected on his first try, Lincoln tried again and won a position in 1834, as a Whig. When Abraham Lincoln was studying to be a lawyer he met Mary Todd in Springfield, Illinois. Abraham and Mary Todd were married in 1842 and had four sons. Only one lived to adulthood.

Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln were similar in a lot of ways. Both were very famous political figures known for dealing with civil wars amongst their countries. They also both supported the common people and wanted to advance their countries to be more modern. Caesar updated the Roman Calendar and contributed to many reforms that helped the common people of his empire. Lincoln was a supporter of stopping the expansion of slavery which won him the popularity of the northern states.

Abraham Lincoln is one of the most known people in early american history, he has been known for being the president of the USA during the civil war. Abe has always been against slavery. During he was the president he was against slavery and became an abolitionist during his terms. Which started the civil war.

Another way Caesar and napoleon can be compared was their political mind. Caesar as well as Napoleon were both able to achieve vast political power as a result of being very politically savvy. Both realized that in order to take complete control of the government, you must have the support of the army which they had as a result of being generals. With the support of the army both future dictators enacted coup de tats. In the case of Caesar, after being fired from his position of governor of Gaul(modern day France), took the army which had been loyal to him, entered the Roman Senate building and took control of the Roman Republic.

Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. were both born 120 years apart. They were also killed ten days apart in the same month, years apart of course. Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. were one of the biggest influences on Slavery and Civil Rights. As well as being great leaders during their times. Both of these men were similar, but also had their differences.
