When General Howe felt he had enough men, he assaulted using two-wing formation and encountered the hidden obstacles as they attempted to get to the Provincial line. As the British approached, Americans held their fire until they could “see the whites of their eyes,” in order to have the most devastating effects. This plan proved to be successful in causing significant casualties. When Colonel Prescott ordered cease fire, British advanced, unsure if the Americans had fled, only to be hit harder by more musket fire. Howe was forced to retreat and regroup with more reinforcements in order to perform a final attack.

In June of 1775, 2,400 British soldiers met 1,600 militia members at Breed 's Hill. While the battle took place at Breed 's Hill, it 's famously called the Battle of Bunker Hill. In the middle of the night the militia members quietly set up at at Breed 's Hill. This forced the British to battle uphill. While it seems like the colonists had all the advantages, they ended up losing because they were extremely low on ammunition.

On the third charge the American Colonist, who were almost out of ammunition, was forced to retreat. The men were disobedient and undisciplined. Somehow instead of Bunker Hill being fortified, Breed’s Hill got fortified instead. One idea is that in the confusion of the night they chose the wrong hill. Another idea is that the map they had was wrong. When the morning came the British were surprised to see Breed’s hill fortified.

Before their attack the British fired “Hot Shot” at Charleston setting the entire city on fire and forcing the snipers to flee. At 2:00 pm the British started to ferry over an army of 2,000 infantrymen to “scare them off”, but as we know that did not work. Soon after the Seven Years’ War, the British and the colonists learned that victory came with a rather expensive price (Kennedy, Cohen, & Bailey, 2010). Great Britain tightened its grip on the colonies in North America, expecting colonists to pay for their financial struggles. In order to make colonists pay for the war, Great Britain reminded the North American colonies who had authority by controlling the colonists to submit to various ordinances ratified by British Parliament. This action only showed that arrogance leads to rebellion socially, economically, and politically. Socially, a lack of communication between Great Britain and the North American colonies was to blame for the Revolutionary War.

The colonies also called for a continental congress, in the first meeting they made decisions basically defending themselves from anything Britain could possibly throw at them: military preparations in case the British in Boston chose to attack, boycotting in hopes of abolishing trade with Great Britain, rejecting a colonial union under British control, the basically wanted nothing to do with Great Britain because Britain abused their power over the colonists to begin with. The Battle of Lexington and Concord was the official turning point for the colonists, they had colonists prepared with guns, minutemen, that were ready to fight at a seconds notice and they kept close eyes on Boston just in case the British chose to attack. William Dawes and Paul Revere were keeping watch for any British movement. When the British came the colonists were ready and by the end of the battle the British had lost many of their troops in this revolutionary war. This war was definitely the beginning of the fight for independence for the colonists, thy showed the British that they could stand up for themselves and that they deserved better treatment.
