Ryan Nielsen 9/18/15 S.S.-2nd /Eng.-3rd DBQ:Reconstruction Who Killed Reconstruction North or South The Reconstion was killed but by who the North neglection or the South resistance and why? Reconstruction was in process because of the war. The Civil war destroyed much of the south. In many groups it was not wanted such as the KKK. The KKK was a group against equal rights throughout African Americans. Other groups supported the Reconstruction such as Freedmen, African Americans who were freed during the war, and Carpetbaggers, people who went south to help the reconstruction in the south. There was much tension in the Reconstruction. The north killed Reconstruction in the south because the government frauds took away all President
In the end the war ended with the North winning because the South basically went bankrupt and almost all men died. The reconstruction era after the civil war is basically rebuilding and brings back together the south because it was left in ruins, With the reconstruction came many rules such as leaders in the south were not allowed to public office, Northern soldiers supervised the south instead if the soldier of the south, Also many Northerners moved to the South during the reconstruction era which was known as carpetbaggers and they took advantage which upset many southerners. Due to the reconstruction, there were no laws, all banks were ruined, and rival money was basically worthless. Towards the end of the war, the Southerners’ passed “Black Codes” which is basically a law that wanted to limit the freedom for the African Americans.
The South deserve blame for killing Reconstruction because of their violence from the Ku Klux Klan. During Reconstruction from 1863 to 1877 the South was creating a great deal of chaos. What is Reconstruction you may ask? Reconstruction is the period of time after the Civil War where the South was being rebuilt. Both Southern violence and Northern neglect contributed to the death of Reconstruction.
The North took the main cause of why the Reconstruction was failed in the South. I believed it was failed in the south because the North was not focused on South and all its problems. The Second reason was the North was very focused on the South not having political power that they didn’t focus on other problems in the South like the KKK. The KKK affected a big part on how the reconstruction failed, it was there there plan to kill the reconstruction. The North lost interest and focused on government issues.
Who Killed Reconstruction? The reconstruction period happened because the south refused to set slaves free. Thousands of people died and were forced to vote against their beliefs. Making people “come to their senses” turned out to be a little harder than the north originally thought.

Who Killed Reconstruction? The South was largely at fault for the failure of one of the most important events in U.S. history. The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was a white supremacist group in the South that prosecuted radical republicans, carpetbaggers, and freedmen. There was a lot of racism towards freedmen all over the nation but the KKK was the worst of all.
The South killed Reconstruction due to the KKK, which was very terrifying and racist.which people couldn't take any more, and Lawlessness and Fear, which led to craziness. There were things that occurred after the Civil War. The first Easter egg hunt on the White House lawn was an event that happened after the Civil War. Another interesting fact was that the first college football game between Princeton and Rutgers happened, also the last federal troops leave the South. The South killed Reconstruction because of the KKK, Racism, and Lawlessness and Fear.
With the conclusion of the Civil War, the infrastructures of both the North and the South had been destroyed by the exhaustive cost of fighting. The North, however, had the advantage of winning the war and the supposed power of decision making, and northern political leaders had their dreams of Reconstruction, and differing ideas about how the southern states should be treated in response to the opposition. This mishandled responsibility had overwhelming repercussions, and the southern states fell into a state of further tension and chaos. Although there were many northerners fighting for rights of people in the South, overall, the South did not receive fair treatment from the North.
Maceo Cardinale Kwik Reconstruction Reconstruction was the twelve years after the civil war. Those twelve years were full of readjustment fixing the ruin the United States had fallen into. The problems that had the United states in disarray were how to, rebuild the South, reunite the states, and ensure the rights and protection of the newly freed African Americans. The civil war left the South in shambles, and newly freed slaves struggled to adjust to their new freedom. Most Southerners hated reconstruction and everything else about the North.
Reconstruction removed slavery from the entire country. Slavery was a key source of income when it came to southern life. Reconstruction didn’t benefit the south the same as the north, so it did not properly reunite the north and the south. Southerners did not fight for the wicked institution known as slavery, but for some combination of independence for southern state rights and the cultural way of life they had created. The confederacy did not fight because they favored slavery, they fought because the north was trying to alter their way of life and remove a major source of income.
North or South: Who Killed Reconstruction? Hayes leadership, due to the Compromise of 1877.
