Just like Jesus sacrificed himself and put himself before others to save humanity from sin, Carton took Charles Darnay’s spot so the guillotine could behead him just so Darnay could be with his wife and child again. Carton and Jesus are most alike in that they both sacrificed themselves for either a whole civilization or just one line of a family.
