It is the abuse of power from the abuser based on controlling behaviors towards their partners. In the UK, the abuse can be emotional, financial, sexual, physical or psychological. Normally, domestic abuse does escalates over time , and their victims may experience different types of abuse from the same person. Physical abuse is the most visible form of domestic abuse, what the abuser wants to do is to intimidate and cause fear. These assaults often start small, a shove or grabbing your wrist, but over time it will become worst. Most likely with other abusive behaviors, like emotional and verbal abuse Psychological, emotional, and mental abuse which are linked together, the abuser uses emotional abuse to wither away their partners self-esteem and reduce their confidence to increase their reliant on the abuser. Tactics such as criticism, intimidation, isolating them from their family and friends to gain control over them(Lwa,2018). The last country, I chose is Saudi Arabia. Women were the victims in 45 % of domestic violence cases filed in the last year with the Ministry of Justice. They were seeking protection from their abuser, they were physically abuse, financial abuse, their children taken away from them, sexual abuse, all tactics to control the
Women are stripped of their ability to be able to live a life full of dignity and respect. A woman is assaulted or beaten every 9 seconds in the United States. There are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide daily. Weapons are involved in 19% of domestic violence. Victims of domestic violence have higher suicidal and depression rates.
Intimate Partner Violence Fatalities: Prevention and Intervention Intimate partner violence is considered the most life-threatening and distressing family issue on a societal platform (Hamilton, Jaffe, & Campbell, 2013). The term family is utilized loosely as familial depictions vary, but to be certain the family has two partners that can be diversified roles and gender. By definition intimate partner violence illustrates a pattern of behaviors that are deliberate and intended to gain power and control over another person (Hamilton, Jaffe, & Campbell, 2013). Intimate partner violence does not need to be necessarily violent actions, but can be verbal threats, isolation, neglect, and disempowering tactics. The series of behaviors and violence can hastily escalate and the probability of homicide increases in those relationship dynamics.
In reality, one in fifteen children have been exposed to this type of violence, and almost 90% of them have seen this violence happen in the past (http://ncadv.org/learn-more/statistics). Women may be the majority of people who get domestically abused because of their weak persona, but men and children can be affected by these things as
Domestic violence can be described as when one adult in a relationship misuses power to control another. It is the establishment of control and fear
(n.d). Family violence affects all and everyone. According to statisticians, about 6% of women in Canada in 2013 suffered from intimate violence in the past five years and “80% of intimate partner violence were against women and 97% of spousal murder-suicides were against women”. Half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16. Family violence is not reported in majority of cases.
The official statistics can be used to educate about the prevalence and immorality of committing domestic abuse crimes. As the message continues to resonate through society that violence is unacceptable, younger generations are more likely to mature without considering physical abuse as an option to relieve anger. (Mouzos and Makkai, 2004) Men who supported gender equality showed far lower levels of violence than those who believed in the ‘traditional gender roles’. Likewise, women who were more ‘traditional’ were also less likely to report incidents of domestic violence.
In addition, sexual violence is another form of domestic abuse. Sexual violence occurs when one forces a person to engage in a sexual act or compels sexual contact against his or her will. Sexual violence occurs in an intimate partner physically and emotionally abusive relationships where the victim agrees to have sex as a means to avoid additional abuse or intimidation. Example of such violence would be, rape whether its martial or date rape, attempted rape, inappropriate touching, sexual harassment or any form of sexual activity that a person does not willingly agree. Psychological violence is associated with emotional trauma.
Nowadays domestic violence can happen to anyone, regardless of race, sexual orientation, income, gender, or ethnicity. Currently 3 million victims of physical assaults in the USA are men (Domestic Violence: Statistics & Facts, 2015). One in four women will be exposed to domestic violence during her lifetime (Domestic Violence: Statistics & Facts, 2015). Women between 20 years old to 24 years old are more likely to experience domestic violence (Domestic Violence: Statistics & Facts, 2015). Around 4 million women experience rape and physical assaults by their partners (Domestic Violence: Statistics & Facts, 2015).
Abuse is an act that happens throughout society that should not be taken lightly. There are two major categories for these actions, either physical or emotional. In most cases when somebody is abused, it is usually both types of abuse. Personally to me, I feel that physical abuse is worse than emotional abuse based on long-term effects, scars, and pain. On average, twenty people are physically abused by their partner per minute.
This horrible act can happen in a variety of ways. The abuse can be physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, and economical. Domestic violence is a pervasive problem that is among everyone everywhere. Even if you have not been involved in domestic violence, you may know someone who is or has been affected by it. Proverbs 31:8 says, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the right of all who are destitute.
In the United States alone, an average of 20 people per minute are physically abused (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, n.d.). This is a frightening statistic and what is even more frightening about it is the fact that it is one hundred percent preventable. Intimate Partner Violence can be defined as physical, sexual, or psychological harm caused by a current or former partner/spouse. It is important to note that Intimate Partner Violence can happen in both men and women; however, it is more prevalent in women. It is very difficult to determine the presence of Intimate Partner Violence because several of the victims choose to remain silent about their attacks.
Unlike other scholarly articles, this article gives us a widening source of how vast intimate partner violence is. Most other articles categorize intimate partner violence into physical violence, a type of sexual violence, stalking, and psychological event; this one categorizes intimate partner violence into: violent resistance, coercive controlling violence, situational couple violence and separation instigated violence. This article allows one to understand these types of intimate partner violence and figure and learn the pattern in their trends. I believe this article is a very rich resource and offers a really great in depth differentiation between the types of intimate partner violence, which would make it an excellent reference when it comes to research on intimate partner violence. This articles’ extensively differentiation between these types of intimate partner violence is important to the development of a criminal justice training program since it would allow criminal justice official to discover better ways of handling such cases and maybe stop them from happening again in the near
Domestic violence is the leading source of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the United States, more than car accidents, muggings, and rape combined. A woman is more likely to be assaulted, injured, raped, or killed by a male partner than by any other type of assailant. Although, in recent times men also are abused by their female partner, the majority of cases still affect women entirely. Domestic Violence is often referred to as a pattern of offensive behaviour in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner. Domestic violence can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic, or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person.

Relationship abuse is a pattern of coercive and abusive behaviors. Most of the time when abuse goes on during a relationship, it is kept a secret because the victim is afraid of telling. The behaviors that go on are to maintain total control over a spouse or an intimate partner. Relationship is a choice or in other words it’s a learned behavior. Most abusers believe that they can do what they want and get away with it.
