In John Patrick Shanley’s story Doubt: A Parable, Sister Aloysius forms doubts about Father Flynn’s actions and diligently tries to expose Father Flynn based off of negligible evidence. A Catholic school in the Bronx is stuck at the crossroads as a rigid disciplinarian nun and the liberal parish priest share different views pertaining not only to their religion. Laylee’s Kin was a very moving documentary on how the oppression of the African American culture has been generationally effected by the cotton industry. It was apparent in Layee’s family how illiteracy, incarceration, and discrimination caused a cycle of poverty in the families of Tallahatchie County. The film introduced a few individuals that really stood out in their film for their resiliency. Granny, Laylee’s Granddaughter, really stood out to me in the film dealing with the incarceration of her father Reggie. Reggie Barns, the superintendent of the school who was battling a probation due to poor testing scores.

In the film Lalee’s Kin, the school superintendent Reggie Barnes, described Tallahatchie county schools as being the worse of worse because they were a level 1 school according to the ITBS. As he pointed out, the system was built to fail these children. He partly blamed the state for not taking responsibility to provide him with the funds needed to hire more qualified teachers and purchase school supplies need to teach their students. He advocated for adequate and identical educational opportunities for students within his school district as the rest of Delta school district had. Twenty people were executed as a result of the Salem witch trials, a reign of terror that swept up most of the characters in Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible. Salem is a small Puritan town ruled by a theocratic government. The social order of Salem starts with the church leaders and wealthy male land owners and ends with young, unmarried woman and slaves. The church is structured as an earthly representation of biblical law and possesses the power to persecute those outside the holy edicts. Women are subservient to men, cannot own property and are viewed with suspicion in the church.
