Also known as drama, a play is principally meant to be performed on stage rather than be read as it brings a more active form of presentation. It also “provides an extra dimension of dynamism as the readers can visualise the characters enacting the dialogue and action of the play while the audience can see the actors perform live on stage” (Tutorial notes-Unit 1, 2017). The Great Gatsby and Fight Club both depict similar themes in which I will be discussing throughout this essay. Both the film and the novel have many comparisons which can be made within the text. Although the novel Fight Club and the film The Great Gatsby were made several years apart they both have similar concepts and depict a variety of themes including The American Dream which I will be. The book, The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton is about brother hood and friendship. Is also about two gangs called the Greasers and the Soc's constantly arguing and fighting. Constantly fighting about their gangs placement in their cities, girls, and where they can and can't go. In the first chapter, fighting comes up right away. Ponyboy was walking home from the movies when about 5 Soc's drove up to him and jumped him.

Today, many of our perceptions are deceived by systemic stereotypes, often fogging our own ability understand ourselves. This is what suppresses the main character, and a group of other members, in David Fincher’s Fight Club. In the film, both male and female characters are stereotypical and overly sexualized. The film is extremely generalized and Fincher accomplishes this by presenting the characters with no desire to come against the reality of gender norms. The conventions that are held as a standard in the film are the orthodox characteristics of how men are supposed to appear.

Some playwrights choose to write plays about historical events, among them there is The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, a play that describes the downfall of the rule of Julius Caesar, but is also a play that is not as truthful as it first impressionably is, a complete truthful account of Julius Caesar’s assassination and the events leading up to it. I chose to rewatch a film for my observation. The film I watched was “Fight Club”. This film is an example of the complete opposite of US cultural values. It focuses on destroying material comfort and individuality. The narrator who was once a man driven by material possessions is completely changed by Tyler Durden a man who is fuelled by chaos.

The Greeks started with only drama. Some plays in this genre were called Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. Drama led to Comedy, and drama and comedy is the mix we use today. Rebellion In the novel, Fight Club, the act of rebellion takes over the narrator’s and Tyler’s lives in a negative way, making them dangerous people to associate with. Rebellion plays an important role in the creation of the plot, and many details surround its concept. Some examples of when rebellion plays a part in the novel are throughout Fight Club, typical society, the boys’ jobs, and Project Mayhem. Fight Club is the strong foundation for the development of the plot of this novel and is the beginning of the rebellion of the characters.

Shakespeare is the famous author of many different plays and poems. He began his writing in the 1500’s, and moved on to theatrical work as well. According to Barnet, “ eighteen of his plays were published during his lifetime.” ( Barnet).

These are so significant to understanding the work, that a reader of this script can recognize them, even if he or she has never seen a production of A Doll’s House. This story could not be conveyed properly without including the significant examples of spectacle in a production. According to Aristotle, there are six elements of drama. In simplest terms, they are referred to as plot, character, diction, music, thought, and spectacle.

If there is one thing that Quentin Tarantino is known for, it is his brilliant use of dialogue. In Pulp Fiction particularly, he does not just use conversations as a tool for advancing the plot, but he also as a way to establish characters’ motivations and identities. Pulp Fiction is a crime movie that binds together the stories of the hitmen Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson), along with their boss Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames) and his wife Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman), and boxer Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis). From Greek performances to contemporary plays, the art of theatre is well and thriving. While the styles of playwrights and the way theatre is experienced changes through time, the messages these plays gaves have more or less stayed the same. Drama can, for the most part, be classified as either tragedy or comedy.
