People who are desperate to become accepted by all the people in America, can do some pretty unpredictable things. Lyndon B. Johnson is an example of this. Before he became president, Johnson changed his mind about some things and signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Why did L.B.J. sign the Civil Rights Act of 1964? Lyndon B. Johnson signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act for political reasons like, gaining the approval of the public, showing people that he has changed, and to please the people of America.

The 1948 election is considered one of, if not, the greatest election in American history. What made this so essential was how President Harry S. Truman had the odds against him when facing Thomas E. Dewey, but eventually won in the end with some repercussions. One of them being the split in the Democratic party, due to social issues. However, his victory marked the fifth consecutive win for the Democratic party in a presidential election. As a result of the 1948 election, the democrats would regain control of both houses of Congress.

Eisenhower accomplished so much during his years serving as President. For example he created the U.S Information Agency, supported Interstate Highway Systems and he got Alaska and Hawaii to be states. However, he then decided to retire in the year of 1961 and died eight years later. Eisenhower’s Farewell speech was broadcasted on national television and everyone heard what Eisenhower had to say. Most people were shocked by some of the things he spoke about.

Racial discrimination became a problem for African Americans throughout the 1960s. It commenced with the Jim Crow laws that promoted segregation for African Americans. Leading for African Americans to become segregated from public facilities and treated unfairly. At the time it was clear that in the eyes of Jim Crow and others who thought just like him, he saw those with black skin as unworthy and unequal compared to their white skin. Plessy fought to be “separate but equal” in their community.

Reagan used his executive power, Commander in Chief, to put up resistance against Mikhail Gorbachev and push his defensive strategy.

During this time the cold war was escalating. After World War Two, the United States and the Soviet Union became entangled in a rivalry of who was the greatest superpower in the world. There was a buildup of nuclear weapons, and after what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, these weapons were the most feared thing in the world. Also just before Eisenhower's speech the war between North and South Korea had come to an end. McCarthy manipulated the media, told outrageous stories about the communist conspiracy in the United States, and used his power and America’s fear to besmirch any opponents as “communist sympathizers” to make sure he remained at the top. Actually, most conservative members of Congress supported McCarthy because it helped them gain votes during elections. The majority of McCarthy 's movement attacked liberals and members of the Democratic Party and this aided anyone who was not part of those topics and organizations.
