Audre Lorde was a writer during the twentieth century and she was known for her emotional quotes and expressions. She once said, “Poetry is not only a dream and vision; it is the skeleton architecture of our lives. I lay the foundation for a future of change, a bridge across our fears of what has never been before.” This quote relates to Emily Dickinson because all of her life Emily was focused on poetry. She had no career and no social life. All of her life she wrote poetry. The life, career, and poetry of Emily Dickinson was remarkable for its time period and is still influential to this day. Emily Dickinson's early life was a very positive life. “Emily Dickinson was born in Amherst Massachusetts, on December 10, 1830” (Loving 190). Amherst was a small and very peaceful town at that time. “The Dickinson family had lived in Amherst for four generations” (Dommermuth- Costa 9). To me, that is a very long time because that is 102 years. “In 1833, when Emily was two years old, Samuel Fowler Dickinson took his wife and their youngest child, Elisabeth, and moved to Ohio” (Dommermuth- Costa 10-11).
