Both the invention of the telephone and telegraph lead to the ground breaking invention of the radio. Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian inventor and electrical engineer, was the first to discover radio waves. In addition he discovered, developed, and sold the first long-distance telegraph. Resulting from his discoveries, the distance across oceans and between borders became smaller. The sending of data became faster and many lives were saved. For example the surviving passengers of the titanic were able to be rescued because of Marconi’s inventions. Among Marconi’s inventions the radio surely brought him the most fame. It was founded by Rube Foster "The father of Black Baseball”. In 1923 over 400,000 African American fans turned out to watch the star players "Smokey Joe" Williams and "Bullet" Joe Rogan. Though society ignored black baseball players, they became very popular in the black community. The interest in celebrity baseball players also grew greatly. The blacks did not mix with the whites, and the whites did not involve themselves with the blacks and kept them out of their daily life as much as possible(History.com). African Americans were not allowed as much access as the whites. They were not allowed to do daily everyday things such as riding on the front of the bus, they had to drink out of the “colored” water fountains, and were not allowed to eat in certain restaurants and the list goes on. When the Dodgers signed Jackie to play for their team it caused outrage and confusion for many people across the United States. In times of intense divide, the United States often finds a unifying symbol to bring the country together; during the 1950s and 1960s, this was baseball. At this point in American history, baseball was the national pastime. It dominated the world of sports and entertainment for Americans. This was the year when the earliest black professional baseball team, the Cuban Giants was founded. Although they were extremely popular, “attendance was not satisfactory” because of the irregular schedule of the team (Foster 9). In this era of black baseball, no league structure was applied, and teams were playing lots of barnstorming exhibition games in order to cover the expenses of the team (Foster 9).
8 The teams also had a rule that there had to be an even number of black players so that a white player wouldn’t be forced to share a room with an African American while they were on the road. Even though Jackie Robinson and the other new black members of the MLB had to go through a lot, it was worth it in the end because they greatly impacted integration in society.9 Baseball affected desegregation greatly because as baseball became integrated, so did society. For example, in 1948, one year after Jackie Robinson signed with the Dodgers, President Truman ended racial segregation in the military. And later, segregated schools were outlawed.

Iit happens every day in thousands of different ways. The radio was used for entertainment, communication, and news. In 1943 Marconi's company sued the U.S. government for patent infringement during World War 1, but the case never made it to court. Instead to avoid the lawsuit the U.S. Supreme Court upheld patent 645,576, thus restoring Tesla (who had died a few months earlier) as the inventor of the radio. Although many people still consider Marconi the inventor of the radio.
