Digital Media is any media that is enclosed in a machine and is a readable format. Anybody can create digital media, it can be viewed, shared changed and preserved by anyone on computers. Video editing is such a massive part of our lives today. In terms of social media, which I’m sure most people use, videos are streamed on pretty much any site. YouTube itself has about 1 billion users each month. Every day people watch hundreds of millions of hours on YouTube. The number of hours people are watching on YouTube each month is up 50% year over year. 300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute. (http://www.youtube.com/yt/press/statistics.html) All of this shows us how much our species relies on video editing just for this one site alone. Never mind the billions of other websites out there on the internet that use video editing. Something even bigger than sites such as YouTube would be television. Television has been around for decades now, it is watched by billions of people around the world every day. Any advertisement, TV show or movie that you see every day used video editing tools to make it the way it is. It shows just how important video editing is to our world in everyday

Videos have positive and negative connotations. Family’s often use video’s positively to capture life’s greatest moments. I believe that one other pro of the “youtube effect” is that just like Moises Naim stated in his article, When a video is posted to platforms such as Youtube, it gains more of a permanent presence with the help of bloggers and youtube enthusiasts as apposed to seeing something in the news that most people would end up forgetting about in a few days, Which brings me to the cons of the “Youtube effect”. In Naim’s article he talks about a downside to youtube and how with manipulation, it is harder to know what is real and what is not.
