In a world where women had few rights Susan B. Anthony came and gave the women what they deserved. She brought upon a new generation of fighting women who wanted more for themselves and their children. A hero is someone who is constantly there for everyone, gives the benefit of the doubt, and does not give up. Susan B. Anthony exemplified all of those traits and more which is why she is a hero and important to all. Susan was a teacher in New York when she came across an ad for womens rights and was instantly hooked. Susan knew from that point on she needed to do something with her life and fighting for rights was the best path for her. Susan B. “before the Civil War, Anthony campaigned hard for the American Anti-Slavery Society, and during the war, she helped establish the Women’s Loyalty League to lobby for a constitutional amendment that would abolish slavery and guarantee civil and political rights for all Americans. Yet, despite her lifelong commitment to black rights, after the war, Anthony opposed both the wording of the Fourteenth Amendment because it inserted the word “male” in reference to citizen’s rights,” (Bilhartz) An article mentioned how Susan believed that all American citizens should be treated equally and not judged based on things that they cannot control. In her hope to change the way that Americans are treated the fourteenth amendment was passed but Anthony was still not satisfied. In the original fourteenth amendment, the word male was used. Anthony died before she could see all of her hard work for women pay off she is still remembered. In honor of Susan B. Anthony, the nineteenth amendment was named the Susan B. Anthony amendment. Susan paved the way for women to have so many rights. Due to her hard work and constant will to keep going Susan B. Anthony is cherished as someone who little kids strive to be, who teens talk about, and whose grandparents tell amazing stories about. Though Susan is no longer with us she is still a constant reminder of how much people can change in the world. She was a leader and spokesperson for many different women who may not have had the courage to say what she said and more. In honor of Susan B.
