In many national or even local events theoretical perspectives can be seen. The perspectives are structured functionalism, social conflict, and symbolic interactionalism. Each of these theoretical perspectives are the things that shape how societies and the world function. While watching the “State of the Union Address” given by President Donald Trump, the perspective become prevalent and can be easily observed. The first of the three theoretical perspectives are structured functionalism. It was coined by Auguste Comte, who was the founding father, Herbert Spencer, and Emile Duckhelm. The use for this perspective is to look for how things are interdependent and interconnected. An assumption is that societies are made up of these two things, things being …show more content…
The application is that it looks at how people interact with others and how people develop meanings in private relationships. The people that developed this idea are George Herberd Merd, and Herbert Blumer. An assumption for this is that human beings have the capacity to alter the meaning they give their life experiences when they find themselves in different situations. In the address President Trump spoke a lot about the tragedies that many have faced. One being the man named Ji Seong-ho, changed the meaning of his life when he made it to The States. Another example of this is when two teenaged girls who were best friends were murdered in Detroit by gang members, the parents of these girls had to alter the meaning of their lives due to this horrendous life experience. This assumption leads to the assumptions that human beings have the capacity for thought and that the capacity for thought are developed by interacting with others. Unlike structured functionalism and social conflict, one of symbolic interactionalism’s limitations is that it focuses too much on the micro picture and not the macro. It also does not pay attention to power
It is also to highlight why functionalism becomes the dominant ideology when it comes to the structures in society. However, the word functionalism here is to be used in the Mertonian
I quickly realized that many sociological studies are subjective, and different people will perceive a study in a different way. An example of this would be my reaction to the functionalist view on social stratification in Unit 7, which we discussed to be a view that supports the idea of social stratification. Initially, I felt this was wrong, because we should be striving for equality. After our discussions on the issue, I came to the realization that there are different ways to view this situation, as explained by the perspectives of functionalists, conflict theorists and interactionists.
Functionalism and The Bee Movie Amari Wilburn-Jones Introduction to Sociology February 16,2018 In the field of Sociology sociologist often view society from three major theoretical perspectives: symbolic interactionism, functional analysis, and conflict theory. Each theories/perspective is a way to view how parts of the world fit together and work. In this paper I will be analyzing The Bee Movie from the functional analysis perspective to see how the actions of people within a society can help or hinder the society as a whole.
This speech is made by Bill Clinton for the audience to re-elect the Democratic candidate, Barack Obama. Clinton talked about Obama’s contributions and ideas that helped America during Obama’s term. The audience of such speech would most likely be the Americans interested in electing a president. Bill Clinton himself was a former president, which boosted ethos; he was once an expert authority on this field, so his words seem trusted. Still the main appeal to ethos in the speech isn’t for Clinton, but for Obama instead.
Finally, the three sociological perspectives can be seen. Functionalist can be observed in the way
Functionalism Functionalism emphasizes how social structures maintain or undermine social stability in macrostructures (Brym,
Symbolic interactionism is placing a meaning on an object and behave based of that meaning which might not be necessarily true. This theory is present within the novel because the Hmong ascribe a stigma to doctors and by doing so this causes them to interact with them differently. Another example of symbolic theory within the novel is the placenta that the Hmong symbolize. The placenta is symbolize as the passage for the soul and they were upset with the Western medicine for not being able to keep the placenta after child birth, however Dr. Fife did allow this which caused more interactions with Hmong for Dr. Fife. Also, even though doctors warn against the handling of the placenta because it may transfer disease, they ignore it because of the symbolic importance it have to them.
Background Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign has come at a time after having a president serve for two terms. Americans are eager for change. Donald Trump promises to be the change that fixes the nation’s concerns about foreign affairs and immigration laws. His slogan and speeches reflect how he is able to position himself as the man for the job even without any experience as a politician, he does so by feeding off of the nation’s fears. During less than a two year span of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Lyndon Johnson was able to trigger the anxiety and fear Americans had over nuclear war with his political commercial, allowing him to win the election of 1964.
Political psychology is a way to analyze political figures through the lens of a psychologist. Donald Trump has such a tenacious personality that it 's almost comical, that is until he conveys something misogynistic and immoral in a speech or rally.
The social structural perspective is a theory that takes an in-depth look as to how these subsystems can affect an individual or a group. It is important to view how certain structures can empower or disempower the persons within the community. In short, the individuals and the structures within it work in conjunction with one another and

Nowadays, there is no difference between politicians. American politicians deliver the same message to the people—elaborating on the pitfalls of the United States to acknowledge their ideas and importance to the nation. They ramble on and on about how they will improve and rejuvenate America, but fail to provide concrete solutions. Apart of the group of politicians, Donald Trump, for example, discusses specifically in his speech, at the Iowa Freedom Summit, how he will “succeed in: creating jobs; defeating ISIS; reducing the budget deficit; stopping nuclear weapons…” though fails to state specific solutions. In other words, he is simply restating the problems the nation faces.
Finally, the fourth and latest era is the meaning-making perspectives in a social world. There are a couple theories in this era but not as many as the last. It takes everything from the last era and makes in into one modern theory, which is culture-centered and meaning-making. Culture-centered studies how the media role plays a part in our society. Meaning-making is the way media helps us make sense of the world around us.

Symbolic Interactionism Theory: The theory analysizes society by the descriptive meanings that people have given to objects, events and behaviors. The behavioral pattern of the people will be based on these descriptive meanings because people behave according to their descriptive believes rather than objective truth. (Blumer, 1969)
