How would you like it if you and a group worked really hard on a project and thought it was perfect just the way it was. Then some people come around and decide it's not good enough so they try and change it or just make a completely new one .Well that's what happen with the articles confederation. Rufus king or the delegate of massachusetts thought it they were all good and didn't want to make any changes. He was one of the youngest delegates at the age of thirty three.

The Virginia Plan which is also known as the large-state plan was a plan drafted by James Madison. James Madison was a politician from Virginia who wanted the national government to hold more power. So he came up with the Virginia Plan. The idea of the Virginia Plan was that there would be two chambers of congress, in which the representatives would be determined by the population of each state (Patterson, 2013, p. 31). This meant the larger states would have more of an advantage than the smaller states, which would give them more representatives and power.

These men being known as the founding fathers The Virginia plan was to create a government consisted of what Edmond Randolph proposed that the national government be compiled of a supreme, legislative, executive and judiciary. It was also consisted of 2 houses. The lower house would represent states with the largest population. The members of the upper house would be elected by the lower house making the smaller states have little or no representation in the upper house at all.

The presidential selection process was also a problem during the Constitutional Convention. The Virginia Plan suggested that the president should be selected by Congress because its members had the best knowledge and understanding of how the presidential selection process worked. In Federalist Paper No. 68, Hamilton asserted that the “men most capable of analyzing the qualities,” hence the members of Congress, to select the president since they had enough information on the presidential candidates to evaluate and make a reasoned judgment on which candidate would fit best in the president position. Pennsylvania delegate James Wilson, on the other hand, opposed this idea and suggested that the president should be selected by ordinary citizens.

The Virginia plan of course favored the southern colonies. The Virginia plan wanted two houses. These houses were both based on population. Both houses are made out of the House of Representatives. They would get more votes out of this and this would help them to say their ideas and have more political power.

The Great Compromise which was founded at the Constitutional Convention wasn't formed without trouble. Many of the delegates that participated in the convention were wealthy landowners and lawyers, who owned many slaves. They failed to notice the diversity that excited within the nation. As they talked how to repair the Articles of Confederation, issues would arise that would create continuous debates amongst each other. One of the issues that would arise would be the nature of the new government.

For an example, this would give Virginia much more delegates than Delaware, the smallest state. Delegates from small states objected to the plan, instead they preferred the Confederation system in which all states were represented equally. On June 15, William Paterson, a delegate from New Jersey, presented a different plan called the New Jersey Plan that revised the Articles of Confederation, which was all the convention was empowered to do. The Plan kept the Confederation’s one-house legislature, with one vote for each state. Congress could set taxes and regulate trade, powers they did not have under the Articles.

Others wanted monarchy, some who were even entirely against a national authority. During the Constitutional Convention, there were many proposals for the government. One of the proposals was the Virginia Plan by Governor Edmund Randolph of Virginia. This proposal called for three divisions for a strong national government.

The Constitutional Convention in 1787 was created to provide a strong national government to solve America’s problems and to mainly fix the Articles of Confederation. Both leaders Hamilton and Madison called for this convention to discuss trade issues and create a new government rather than revising the old government. Instead of revising the Articles, there were two discuss plans that were proposed for a new form of government. The first discuss plan was the Virginia Plan written by Edmund Randolph called for a bicameral congressional where the legislature and court chooses a chief executive. This plan made the number of representatives and the states proportional to the population of each state and called for the number of votes received

Virginia Plan was created by James Madison but presented to the Constitutional Convention by Edmund Randolph, Governor of Virginia in the year of 1787. The Virginia Plan was about a new form of government and called for the number of votes each state would receive would be based on the population instead of each state receiving just one vote. James Madison and other 56 delegates met in Philadelphia in May 1787, they wanted to make amendments in the Articles of Confederation. They were successful and managed to create a new constitution and as James Madison was representing Virginia, he had become the chief recorder of information. Virginia Plan served as that basis for debate in the development of the U.S. Constitution.

Because the plan had some things from the Virginia Plan and New Jersey Plan, the delegates finally went through with the great compromise. In my opinion, I believe that the compromises made in the constitution make our union stronger. Due to the fact that we as a union were able to create multiple compromises and solve many problems in our country from slave trade to remaking the constitution just three short months shows that we were able to figure out an answer to problems we had in our country without major

The United States constitution has been named a bundle of compromises because the delegates to the Constitutional convention in 1787 had to compromise on many different main ideas in order to establish a new enhanced constitution that is suitable to each of states. Two compromises that had a significant impact on American society and made the United States constitution become a reality are The Great Compromise and the Three-Fifths Compromise. The moral issue is the lack of representation in Congress. Representation in Congress was dealt with at the Constitutional Convention and has had significant impact on American society. This dispute was solved by the Great Compromise, dividing congress into two houses: the house and the senate. The House reflected the Virginia Plan, allowing states to be represented accordingly with their population. In contrast, the Senate called for two representatives of each state regardless of that state’s population. With this compromise, no legislation could pass without the approval of both the house and the senate, giving them equal power.
