Most of black people of Maycomb in the 1930swere terrorized of committing some crime because they could be lynched for a crime they did not commit or do. One example of the book in chapter 18 was the start of the trial of Tom Robinson who was accused of rape and was in fear of being lynched for a crime he did not do. The main meaning of to Kill a Mocking Bird is to show how black people were being thought of as non-human simply because of their skin color.

Tom Robinson’s trial began at chapter 18 and he feared of being lynched. He was accused by Bob Ewell because his daughter told him the Tom Robinson was the one who raped her. Tom Robinson probably new already that he was going to lose the trial because most people would believe a white folk then a black person. Most people that were black and were accused of rape or murder were almost always going to be lynched. …show more content…

As Atticus Finch said” You never really understand a person until you consider him or her perspective”. This quote relates because it expresses how white people thought of black people until they saw how they felt and how they were treated. This quote also explains how black people were misunderstood by most white people and saw most of them as an animal or non-human simply because of their skin color.

Not many black people that were lynched during the 1930s had a chance to be proved innocent or non-guilty. For example, in To Kill a Mockingbird Tom Robinson was accused of raping Mayella Ewell and for being black he was the main and only suspect of the raping. Attakis Finch was the lawyer of Tom Robinson and said” even if my defendant is black I will defend him as best I could all doe it is likely he will lose the trail.
