You are a graduate of The University of South Carolina, and obtained a major in business. Many people may not be aware of this, but you’ve managed plenty of other organizations (The Los Angeles Strings, Blades, and The Forum). You were clearly more than qualified to become the President of the Los Angeles Lakers, but my question for you is when and how exactly did you know that you were ready to take on such an important role in such an historic franchise? 2. For somebody like myself who dreams to work for The Los Angeles Lakers or any alternative professional sports franchise, what steps would you advise they take after completing college? 3. Before conducting this interview, I researched what current tasks you complete on a daily basis, and found that you also are an owner of the Women of Wrestling promotion. Ironically enough, I am also a huge professional wrestling fan. Do you find your job as The President of the Lakers similar, …show more content…
In a recent interview with Bleacher Report regarding Kobe Bryant’s recent announcement regarding his retirement, you said that it is hard for you to imagine the Lakers without him (as it will be for all Laker fanatics). My question for you is one that you may get asked a lot in the next few weeks, but I honestly am curious as a fan; what steps does someone in your position look to take next year to fill in this missing piece of the Lakers? 5. Last night, I attended the 76ers - Lakers game in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. What astonishes me about that game and quite frankly any away game for the Lakers is the amount of local fans in attendance. Why do you believe the Lakers have such a strong worldwide fan base? 6. When it comes to free-agency and trades, I can only assume it is very difficult to determine what is and what is not beneficial to to the future of the Lakers organization. When these types of transactions take place, how difficult is it to decide whether or not it will benefit the team and what exactly do you
Donald Sterling was one of the owners the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers from 1981 to 2014, but the owner ship of the Los Angeles Clippers was taken from him after a conversation where he repeatedly used racist remarks was leaked to the media. The members of the Los Angeles Clippers are signed to the team under a contract.
St. Louis is also one of America’s greatest sports towns and the city is widely known for its loyal fanbase. The city also has a strong economic structure that it is not often given credit for, especially in comparison to other cities that host an NFL franchise. Additionally, the city has shown its willingness to keep the Rams by being flexible towards both the city itself and the franchise. St. Louis, unlike San Diego and Oakland, is offering a new stadium to Kroenke that is partially publicly financed. Lastly, with the reasonable alternatives able to move to Los Angeles, coupled with the new stadium proposal in St. Louis, it is clear that the Rams belong in St.
In K.C. Johnson’s article, “Criticism Doesn’t Deter Rose,” Johnson uses the testimony of Derrick Rose to discuss his opinion on whether the public is holding professional athletes to unrealistic standards, specifically when it comes to dealing with injuries. Derrick Rose, a point guard for the Chicago Bulls, has been dealing with public scrutiny ever since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in 2012 and refusing to play the following season (par. 5). Rose reasons that the fan base did not understand the long term health implications associated with playing injured and that by sitting out, he was protecting himself from a potential career-ending injury (par. 3). His testimonial relies on the support of team doctors and other star player to support his claims. These experts as well as the testimonies of star players, like Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony, establish the author’s credibility.

“Now presenting your Chicago Bulls!” the announcer screamed as smoke poured into the stadium, and the lights went out. “Starting as head guard, Derrick Rose”, came screeching through the speakers. The crowd was on their feet as all the other players were called by name and ran on to the freshly shined court. There were screams of “We love you Derrick”, while shouts of insults, obviously from fans of the opposing team, the New York Knicks reverberated through the arena.
In 2016, there are a plethora of challenges facing professional, college, and high school athletic departments. According to Howard and Crompton (2014) the recession of 2007-2009 had a substantial impact on the sports industry across all levels. Professional sports are challenged with providing affordable tickets to games as “total attendance dropped for three of the four major leagues from 2007 to 2011” (p. 9). The “overall financial state of intercollegiate athletics is grim” as collegiate athletic departments struggle to control soaring cost (p. 55). Yes, players want to get to the next level as fast as they can, but but if they had to stay for two years instead of one, college basketball would even more fun to watch. Imagine that Brandon Ingram was staying for his sophomore year, and Harry Giles is playing at Duke his Freshman year. They would be so fun to watch, and they would not be the only team like that.
