Discrimination Prevention in Data Mining for Intrusion and Crime Detection PUSHKAR ASWALE, BHAGYASHREE BORADE,SIDDHARTH BHOJWANI, NIRAJ GOJUMGUNDE DEPT. OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING MIT ACADEMY OF ENGINEERING ALANDI(D) PUNE Abstract— Data mining involves the extraction of implicit previously unknown and potentially useful knowledge from large databases. The important issue in data mining is discrimination. Discrimination can be viewed as the act of unfairly treating people on the basis that they belong to a specific group. For instance, individuals may be discriminated because of their ideology, gender, age etc. In Economics and Social Sciences, discrimination has been studied for over half a century. There are several decision-making …show more content…
The new solution to the CND problem by introducing a sampling scheme for making the discrimination free instead of relabeling the data set. The algorithm is used in this paper is classification algorithm. The goal of classification is to accurately predict the target class for each care in the data. It predicts categorical labels and classify the data based on the training set and the values in a classifying attribute and uses it in classifying new data. The techniques used in this paper is Pre-processing, Preferential sampling, Over sampling, Uniform sampling. In preprocessing there are a lot tangential and excess data present or noisy and so knowledge uncovering during the aiming stage are a lot of elaborated . Data preparation and filtering steps can contain considerable amount of processing period. Data pre-processing includes cleaning, normalization, transformation and characteristic extraction selection. In Preferential sampling the process that determines the data location and the process being modeled are stochastically dependent. In the over sample are the action of sample importantly higher than the doubly the twice the band width or peak relative frequency of the signal comprising sampled. Over sampling sample aids avoid aliasing, answer and brings down noise. The equation is used fs=2bb Where fs are the sample relative frequency and b are the bandwidth or maximum relative frequency of signal. Then …show more content…
The problems outlined above can be eliminated when production data is collected automatically. When production data is collected automatically as it happens, you can be assured that it is timely, accurate, and unbiased. Until recently, automatically collecting production data was a costly and unreliable proposition. There are, however, negative social perceptions about data mining, among which potential privacy invasion and potential discrimination. The latter consists of unfairly treating people on the basis of their belonging to a specific group. Automated data collection and data mining techniques such as classification rule mining have paved the way to making automated decisions, like loan granting/denial, insurance premium computation, etc. If the training data sets are biased in what regards discriminatory (sensitive) attributes like gender, race, religion, etc., discriminatory decisions may ensue. For this reason, antidiscrimination techniques including discrimination discovery and prevention have been introduced in data mining. Services in the information society allow for automatic and routine collection of large amounts of data. Those data are often used to train association/classification rules in view of making automated decisions, like loan granting/denial, insurance premium computation, personnel selection, etc. At first sight, automating decisions may give a sense of fairness: classification rules do not guide themselves by personal
Why do you believe these actions were discriminatory? The first case file with EECO by Tanya Conde girl friend of Samuel Varriano Maintenance #3 who was fired from Pitt University .The defendent 's in case Robert Godzik, William Franicola supervisor and Pitt University was dismissed . Now Robert Godzik and Pitt University have confidence themselves this isn 't a hostile work environment .With
In Jeff Yang’s concept of discrimination shows that it is distinctly ambiguous. Yang’s article “Harvard Lawsuit Is Not What It Seems” it shows the viewpoint of the story from his perspective along with the opposing side. There are both negative and positive sides to this lawsuit. A piece of literature that reflects on this concept is “I Have a Dream” by Martin Luther King Jr.
An example of this would be when a college entrance test is gear towards middle class white people, this gives a disadvantage to lower class people of color. As a result, there will be a much greater number of admissions of white middle class students than that of poor students of
Institutional discrimination focusses on the mistreatment of a larger group of people such as minorities, while individual discrimination focuses on the mistreatment of a single person. I think institutional discrimination is a more serious social issue because for the obvious reason that it affects more people, and also affects the logistics of society on a larger scale, for example, institutional discrimination has affected African-American home buyers. Statistics show that if you are African-American you are sixty percent less likely to get approved for a home loan, not only is their approval chance less but if they do get approved statistics show that their loan interest rates are also higher than that of white people. These statistics are
Those of which consist of systematic discrimination,
What is institutionalized discrimination? According to our book it is a process that happens when the discrimination is “part of the way a social structure normally operates” (A/T). Discrimination by itself is behaviors that individuals condone and discrimination can be a single act. In my opinion, institutionalized discrimination is when an entire society (or any system) works together to negatively impact a group of people’s daily lives simply because they are a member of that group.
Discrimination When people think of discrimination, the Holocaust comes to mind, but there are many more examples and ways of discriminating against others. This issue has been going on for centuries, and it is still a problem in today’s world. Discrimination is the isolating of others because of race, intelligence, and/or religion.
Another form of discrimination is police brutality to black minorities. Black minorities in the United states of america are beaten, violated and murdered by officers of the law that sword to protect and serve them. Police brutality is an issue that needs to be stopped. One example of police brutality was the incident regarding Michael Brown. Michael Brown was a 18 year old African American that was fatally shot by a white officer by the name of Darren Wilson.
Discrimination is a big problem, and people get treated differently because of their race, religion, ethnicity and much
For individual discrimination, it is mainly that through our personal experiences and lessons learned and received in the past, to prejudiced another person. At the same time, institutional discrimination usually produce prejudice to the most of large institutions and organizations for part of the race and ethnic. In current society, individual discrimination is often released in the color issue today; we often are isolated by our own color. Sometimes, people who the white drive in the cars are easier to get forgiveness and understanding of police officers, but for other color race, these people usually tend to be suspects by other people. On the other hand, institutional discrimination is mainly manifested in several areas: economy, education,
Discrimination can occur in many different forms such as beliefs, customs, cultures, and traditions which exist in countless countries across the globe, and even in those where discrimination is generally shunned and is a taboo. There are many different kinds of discrimination which includes but are not limited to ageism or age discrimination, racism or racial discrimination, sexism or sexual discrimination, ableism or discrimination towards the disabled, and discriminating those of a different nationality. Ageism or age discrimination is the discrimination and biasness based only or mostly on the basis of a person’s age group. It is a set of practices, customs, and traditions which are used to support their reason for discrimination based on a person 's age. Ageism is very commonly directed towards the elderly, teenagers, or young
Discrimination is a social view used to categorize the differences among different population groups based on perception. People can become a victim of prejudice attacks based on their ethnicity, race, and gender. Racism is the common form of discrimination, where certain groups within a target population are devalued. Minority groups are the victim of racism, where they are seen to have inferior social status based on one’s beliefs. Because of racism, people of color and people living in underserved communities do not receive quality resources and fair rights.
According to Stone (2013), discrimination is when another person is differentiate from another groups based on their sex, race, disability, marital and parental status. In the anti-discrimination legislation, it is known as making a group in advantaged and the other are in disadvantaged. Employment discrimination happens when employees and job applicants were discriminated because of their weaknesses, their family medical history, women that are pregnant, or the connection with a certain individual. (Doyle 2017). Discrimination has a lot of type such as discrimination by the society, discrimination that are indirect, harassment, and victimisation.
