AWARENESS, CAMPAIGNS AND GRAPHIC DESIGN
Awareness is having knowledge that something exists, or understanding of a situation or subject at the present time based on information or experience.
(Cambridge University Press, 2015) Visual awareness is the act of understanding and gaining knowledge of a situation or subject by the means of visual aids. This can be depicted through imagery and text. (Cambridge University Press, 2015)
Many forms of awareness are found within socities. Environmental Awareness is the act of understanding the fragility of the environment and its surroundings and the importance of its protection. Environmental Awareness is an essential part of the environmentalism movement’s success as it educates the public about the fragility of the environment and how indispensable it actually is, only after knowing this information, can society begin fixing the problems that threaten the environment. The key to promoting environmental awareness is knowledge of the environment. The easiest methods of providing the public with the knowledge needed are seen in the forms of inspirational and informational seminars, as well as environmental books and brochures. (Pachamama Alliance, 2015)

“People are exposed to meth on a daily basis, and are faced to question whether or not to try it. Many people precieve the usage of the drug may come with benefits, with minimal risks, this being the main cause of the problem.” The aim of the campaign is to provide the youth and young adults with facts about meth to allow them to make well-informed decisions when faced with an opportunity to try it. The intergrated campaign is designed to decrease meth use amongst the youth through an immersive multimedia experience by use of print, radio, online, mobile, social media and hard-hitting televison advertisements, which all graphically communicate the dangers of meth use. (Montana Meth Project. 2015)
The research within this chapter clearly demonstrates that drug addiction is indeed a major cause for concern, specifically Whoonga within the Durban townships. Based on the above research, in order for people to resist against drugs, they need to be made aware of the drug and the negative effects that come from using it. This can be portrayed in the form of awareness campaigns. Following the correct steps
Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates, who believed that “casual drug users should be taken out and shot,” founded the DARE drug education program, which was quickly adopted nationwide despite the lack of evidence of its effectiveness. As shown, all of the attempts did little to hinder the drug war’s effects, All of this leads to groups and individuals alike to search for solutions to end this ongoing crisis. In Matthew Cooke’s, “How to End the War on Drugs” he brings about possible solutions to end the war. Cooke (2013) suggests making all drug sales, possession, and use non crime nor jail able offenses, allow pharmacies to sell recreational drugs to adults only, with plenty of warning information, and outlaw advertising for recreational drugs (Cooke, 2013).While this all may seem reasonable at first glance, the author’s use of over emotion does not play to his advantage.
Look Me in the Eye, a memoir by John Elder Robison, describes Robison’s life in detail growing up with Asperger’s, a form of autism. Ever since he could talk, Robison displayed unusual behaviors: often times Robison made inappropriate comments and was intermittently prone to violent outbursts. Since Asperger’s was not recognized in the 1960s, Robison was not diagnosed until the age of 40. However, Robison was able to overcome his label of “social deviant” and developed a knack for engineering, successfully maintaining a career and a family (Robison). John Elder Robison did not receive any form of treatment; he developed alternative ways to cope with his cognitive issue.
It is important we combat this issue to save and protect all generations suffering from substance abuse. By addressing the baseline of the issue, we can combat the sale and use of illegal substances. We can also help victims of addiction and abuse with rehabilitation centres and raise awareness about this
Opioids is a big issue because Americans are addicted to drugs especially opioids. After a surgery doctors give patients opioids because they are a pain killer. After patients have been taking opioids they soon are not in pain anymore but they keep taking the pills because it makes their body feel relieved. People get addicted to this and can’t function without them.
Do people really know what they are buying at the store? Do they know that most of the fruits and vegetables have pesticides in them? Do they know that there are some everyday activities that can help the environment? In Derrick Jensen and Stephanie McMillan “As the World Burns: 50 Simple Things You Can Do to Stay in Denial,” they talk about how everyone can help save our planet. For example, changing the light bulbs in the house to fluorescent light, riding bikes instead of driving, and recycling can also help.
There is a multitude of reasons as to why people use drugs. Current theories on drug use include using drugs to rebel against authority, as a means to escape personal issues or in response to conflict occurring in the world around them. There isn’t a sole valid explanation for drug use, but all these reasons have overlapping themes: context and environment, which relates back to a new theory that aims to change the ways in which we analyze drug use. Drug, set and setting is a theory coined by Norman Zinberg which is necessary to validate drug use in all its variations because it considers a multitude of factors, including context and environment when attempting to understand drug use in society. Before we can apply Zinberg’s theory to different
Raising awareness is an important thing to do; it helps people with no previous understanding of important issues to suddenly become aware of them, allowing for more educated decision making.
By taking pride in America’s communities and youth, the program takes action against youth drug use through education and inspiration. From a young age, the Elks Drug Awareness Program asks kids to discern what it means to be drug free. Kids express their feelings of resisting peer pressure through the many local and national poster and essay contests. The program reaches nearly every school and community across the nation with its many drug prevention activities, public service
Drugs are the dangerous substances that will destroy the consumer both physically and mentally; therefore, it is necessary to determine these substances restrictively. In order to do that, I am strongly assuring that the drugs should be legalized. There are three main reasons why the drugs should be legalized: diminution of crime rates, health guarantee, and extending of drugs regulation. Drugs are one of the crime sources, although not by the drugs, itself, but the condition. Illegal drugs are rare products that could not be found in the normal market, the cost for its rarity is totally expensive.
The continuous use of narcotics results in addiction, and financial struggles due to the costly upkeep. “Financial problems are one of the major side effects of drug and substance abuse” (Buaggett, 2015). Addicts cannot adequately take an active role in the economic activities, as the use of drugs inhibits the abilities of the users to earn a daily living. Due to the instability of finances, this would result in selling personal belongings to continue funding the substance of choice, and depending on the addicts living situation, this could lead to losing their house or being removed from their current housing. While being under the influence, an addicts voice of reason is jeopardized, resulting in criminal activities which raise the chances of being apprehended by the law enforcers, as well as, heavy fines are imposed.
These factors could make anyone thinking about or currently producing meth re-check their priorities. The possibility of long prison sentencing and the violence that comes along with the trade may make people think twice before entering the world of methamphetamine. Although the pilot does not give a direct example of an individual consuming meth, later episodes portray multiple individuals accurately absorbing the drug through oral, intranasal, intravenous and smoking methods. These episodes could stick in the viewers subconscious and may be later recovered if the individual encounters an opportunity to try methamphetamine. These images could also induce a
However, there must be a common-sense solution to bring awareness to the forefront of the public and private sector. Because,
The reading assignments for this week has been very educative about the environment and making it a better place for living. But before I continue, I wish to introduce us to environmental ethics and its definition which I think it is very important for us to understand so as to know our role to play in this beautiful planet. Environmental ethics is the discipline in philosophy that studies the moral relationship of human beings to, and also the value and moral status of, the environment and its non-human contents

" Ignorance causes many misfortunes in the world today Fortunately awareness can help avoid mistakes, cure diseases, and prevent disasters. being aware of problems in our community can inspire us to be a part of the solution.
