Wouldn’t it be impressive to have a big writing gig at the age of 14? Ray Bradbury, a self-taught author, first job was writing for a radio show at the age of 14. As time went on, he wrote many short stories, novels, screenplays, and television scripts. Bradbury has wrote more than 600 short stories and 30 books. Throughout all his works, they share many concepts, but are also very different. For example, he uses futuristic ideas, imagery, and most of all suspense. Suspense is used throughout many of his short stories like “A Sound of Thunder”, “The Pedestrian”, and “The Veldt”. In the story “A Sound of Thunder” the literary element being used throughout the story is suspense. In this story, a group of people are going in a Time Travel Safari to hunt for a T-Rex. The first example of suspense is when the first dinosaur appears in the story. It states, “The jungle was wide and full of twitterings, rustlings, murmurs, and sighs. Suddenly it all ceased, as if someone had shut a door. Silence” (“A Sound of Thunder 75”). When Bradbury wrote that everything went quiet, he is trying to create suspense that something big is about to happen very soon. As the story continues, Eckels thinks he can handle this huge dinosaur, but as he goes on with his journey, he gets more and more scared. The story says, “Don’t run, “ said Lesperance. “Turn around. Hide in the Machine” (“A Sound of Thunder 76”). Then, it goes on and says, “Eckels!” He took a few steps, blinking,
