Faith is a powerful belief that not many people have and only in hard times is it at its strongest. With Corrie's faith in God she wanted to help all of the Jews that were hiding away from the Germans. That's because during World War 2, all of the Germans had a hatred towards the Jews and would try to kill them. So Corrie and her family did what they believed was right by helping them even though it was prohibited to help them and could lead to death if caught. In the Hiding Place, Corrie Ten Boom portrays through the characters that having faith in God in times of suffering will give a person the strength needed to survive. Since both her and Corrie were sent to the concentration camp for helping Jews, they have faced many hardships and were beginning to lose hope. However despite how bad it was, Betsies faith saw the good in things even though they were bad. Especially when she and her sister got assigned to a cell that was covered in fleas and Corrie began to wonder how they are supposed to live like this. However in response, Betsie told her, “ That's it, Corrie! That's His answer. ‘Give thanks in all circumstances!’ That’s what we can do. We can start right now to thank God for every single thing about this new barrack!” (Corrie Ten Boom 198) demonstrating her commitment to her faith and how she lives by God's word. Instead of being negative like Corrie, Betsies brought new light to the situation saying they should be thankful and patient about their situation since that is what God would want them to do. Besties applies God's words to her life, and sees things given to them by God as a blessing, and it is revealed later on that those fleas that Corrie had been complaining about, brought them the opportunity to read the Bible openly without the fear of being caught, showing that everything even to them is a blessing. She cared deeply for her eight kids and only wanted the best for them. She made sure that they all had an education, which was hard to get back then. Clara was the other main character. She was very opinionated. It talked about one of the reasons Helga picked Clara to walk with her was because she often would be against her parents political opinions and would be interesting to listen to during their walk.
It’s God who has made us the way we are, but it’s also God who will lift us up again. ”(2nd passage) and this relates to her resisting Nazi rule keeping faith that her God will keep her alive. Since she believes that God will save her she will keep her faith until the end, which she did. Her keeping faith slowed down the Nazi’s goal of destroying the Jewish culture by giving faith to the other inmates because they would pray with her to their god. Since they prayed to their God that kept their faith and hope that they would live to see liberation.
Before the Holocaust, Ellie had faith in God, life, and himself. Ellie was very religious, along with a lot of the people imprisoned. That was, of course, one of the main reasons they were in the camps. Faith was a reason why Ellie stayed positive. Sometimes he had faith in God to get him and his family through the camp alive.
Mattie decides to take Nell into her care as she can’t leave such a young girl all alone. We see a change in Mattie because enough though she is still suffering with her own problems, she can’t let this girl be alone and possibly die. In this time of crisis, Mattie can hardly take care of herself but feels it is right to take Nell in. Mattie shows a lot of maturity in the situation and proves that she is no longer a child.
Smith began to question why she lost faith and could no longer hear God’s voice like everyone else. Throughout her life Smith had been told that “One could sin without ever discovering what one had done or why it was wrong”(63), consequently, leaving her to wonder what sin she could have possibly committed to make God leave and take Roy with him. For Smith, “losing your faith in a world where God is all around you is a precarious business”(63). Smith looked for God when she needed him most but, he was nowhere to be found.

Corrie Ten Boom was a Christian and was born in Haarlem, Netherlands and she helped lots of people and was a very nice person. During WWII she used her house and to hide Jews from the Gestapo (Corrie Ten Boom). Her family owned a watch store which she used as cover when she held the Jews in her house.

During the time of World War II, Corrie took it upon herself to shelter and protect Jews, despite the intense risks.
Not just faith in themselves, but in God. In Night, the main character Ellie stopped having faith in God, and that took a huge toll on his survival. He thought there was no reason to believe, “Why should I sanctify His name? The almighty, the eternal and terrible Master of the universe, chose to be silent. What was there to thank Him for?”(Wiesel 33).

During World War II losing faith was common, especially in the concentration camps where living another day was a blessing and a curse. In the novel Night, Elie Wiesel writes about his experiences, as a teenager, in the concentration camps. Memories of the death of his family, hunger, and the destruction of his own innocence can lead a man to lose faith.
The torturing and suffering caused is what widdles down the belief, and this present throughout the novel. Only the strong and the ones who have most faith would survive, yet at the same time, if they didn’t originally have faith, they could’ve avoided the concentration camps
For example, when they were hiding Jews in their home, they knew that if they were caught, they would be punished severely. However, their belief in God's command to love their neighbors as themselves outweighed their fear of punishment. They felt that it was their duty to help those in need, regardless of the risks. This is a powerful example of how faith can influence actions.
Loudly, making sure the entire group could hear, I stated, ‘We are only going to speak life.’” (Smith 56). Clearly this quote shows Joyce is loyal and also very faithful to God because in times of difficulty she turns to God. She knew God would work his miracles if she trusted in him to do so. Joyce could have been angry about the situation and pouted, but instead she believes in God.
Having a faith in something can help people through extremely difficult times, and difficult times and sometimes it even makes people stronger. People who go through a lot of suffering often have an extreme change of attitude, including Elie, Shlomo, Rabbi Eliahou, and Moshe the Beadle. Faith being a name and also a strong belief in something. While reading the story some people may question Faiths character, wondering if she is actually a person or if when they say Faith they are only referring to Goodman’s belief in God. As Goodman Brown is leaving and him and Faith are saying their goodbyes he tells her that she cannot give up that he will be back. He tells her not to lose her Faith in him. On Goodman Brown’s trip through the woods he realizes that he cannot lose his faith or it is likely that he may not return home to his Faith.
